This one is an odd concept, because it doesn't follow many conventions. It's a non-crit ranged build that hits hard. It's a ranged dps tank that can live up to the title if you block smart and know how to pop heals.

It tanks everything that's not cosmic or grav, and holds its own against those, barring freak occurrences or drunk pilots.

Most importantly: It can solo a 5 man hard powerhouse. Naked.

This little gem is my main right now, and she's a hoot to play. It's one of the few dps builds I've ever used that honestly just didn't give a crap about diving right in. She's in there before the tank, and has the boss on the ropes before they can take back the threat. Usually, with a full health bar.

She's not *really* a leveling build, but by level 8 you can pick up and run. So, really, she's a leveling build.

    PowerHouse (Link to this build)

    Name: CHERNOBYL

    Archetype: Freeform

    Super Stats:
    Level 6: Constitution (Primary)
    Level 10: Intelligence (Secondary)
    Level 15: Presence (Secondary)

    Talents:
    Level 1: The Hero
    Level 6: Enduring
    Level 9: Brilliant
    Level 12: Intimidating
    Level 15: Shrug It Off
    Level 18: Healthy Mind
    Level 21: Diplomatic

    Powers:
    Level 1: Infernal Bolts
Level 1: Devour Essence (Rank 2, Phlebotomist)
    Level 6: Pestilence (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 8: Epidemic (Rank 2, Outbreak)
    Level 11: Supernatural Power
Level 14: Aspect of the Infernal (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 17: Defile (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 20: Bountiful Chi Resurgence (Resurgent Reiki)
    Level 23: Masterful Dodge
    Level 26: Ascension (Rank 2)
    Level 29: Conviction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 32: Resurgence (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 35: Rebirth
Level 38: Ego Surge (Nimble Mind)

    Travel Powers:
Level 6: Mystic Flight (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 35:

    Specializations:
    Constitution: Fuel My Fire (2/3)
    Constitution: Tough (3/3)
    Constitution: Quick Healing (3/3)
    Constitution: Armored (2/2)
    Guardian: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Guardian: Ruthless (2/2)
    Guardian: Retribution (2/2)
    Guardian: The Best Defense (3/3)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
Vindicator: The Rush of Battle (3/3)
    Vindicator: Offensive Expertise (2/2)
    Mastery: Constitution Mastery (1/1)

This character is an active rotation, but you never really have to use em unless, say, you're trying to solo the power house naked. Pop an ego surge, and a conviction. That'll do for most mobs. Bigger mob? ego surge, masterful dodge, and bountiful chi should handle it. Get hurt too bad? Pop ascension, and hit resurgence. On my toon, that heals for almost 11k, which is more hp than I currently possess. Epidemic spamming will feed you a lot of energy. A *lot*. I only picked up rank 3 on my form for style, you'll be at 8 stacks in a matter of 10 seconds, so feel free to boost up those actives if you don't so much care about looking like a giant nuclear bomb.

As for the dps? Defile the biggest guy in the room, and then epidemic spam until everything drops. Enjoy your infinite health. If that second bit ever changes? Devour essence the big guy for a sec or 2, but the last paragraph probably has you covered. This is not a character that drops often.

Even if you screw up, you have rebirth to stand back up and try it again. And the best part? You can swap out your crit-stacker (and you won't need it, most of the time) for the gadgeteering rez at r2, and turn into something like an alert healer. Grav teams will love you for that. You're gonna want to keep ego surge + advantage at the very end of your build. Not that I ever do anymore, but you know. Just in case.

This thing is designed to run in balanced mode, and tends to tank accidentally. Putting it in ranged dps does next to nothing for the threat you'll probably not care much about, and hurts your self heals. I don't suggest it unless your gear is awful and you have a good tank.

The best part about this character? it's *themed*. Aside from the wings that pop when you hit ascension, every part of this will feel and look like you're a giant nuclear device that's slowly unloading on everything around you. If you don't have mysticism flight? try fire instead, it still looks good. Color it green!

As well, with even moderate gear, this'll chainsaw a lot of duel builds. I bet it'd probably be very easy to convert to a full pvp spec, if one were so inclined. I win enough of em with 'dillo gear and silver rec stuff, r5 mods, to say it's dangerous.

I tried using Munitions/Darkness to fit the concept of a soldier displaced in planes. It works fairly well, but I might be a bit biased. I didn't quite feel like using Two-Gun Mojo, so I used Assault Rifle instead.

In reference to this build - can you possibly explain (or even a youtube video of the gameplay, I've seen some people do that for builds before) how this build works? I like the sound of the beginning, but I'm not familiar in the slightest with any of the powers chosen - haven't tried them out yet (I'm new at freeform, slowly learning each powerset as I go). It would help me decide whether or not to use it, because it definitely sounds good.
Also, a side question because I've only used it briefly - what exactly is the good in Conviction? Whenever I use it, the extra health buff just goes away...I'm probably not understanding the whole power, though.

I covered quite a few powers in that build in my guide for building DPS characters for Gravitar if you'd like to take a look: http://worldsojourner.wordpress.com/2013/02/14/how-to-build-survivable-dps-for-gravitar/

Thanks for the details, that covered most if not all of the healing powers I saw. I'll probably use the PTS to test out the other moves one-by-one to see how they work. It definitely seems like a solid build already because of the great healing it has.

Conviction is specifically good for a panic button when the rest of your heals aren't quite doing it. Popping conviction means you can maintain your epidemic spam, and get the poison stacks up to 10 faster.

Basically, the way I run it? Run in after popping masterful dodge and bountiful chi resurgence. Ego surge is viable, although a lot of the time I'll save that until after I've got my 10 poison stacks. Tap defile on your way in, then spam epidemic to 10 stacks of poison. usually takes like 2 maintains of epi, give or take. Then, tap spam defile until your stacks of poison fall to like 5, and epidemic spam again, back up to 10.

When your masterful/bountiful/ego surge drop off? You're probably still taking threat, but healing a lot from the health on kill you got from the vindicator tree. At this point you're pretty much in full out tank mode unless your tank is *very* good at threat maintenance. Pop ascension if you want, for a further dps buff and a steep incline in the strength of your self heal pings. If you're getting pounded on too hard, which tends not to happen too often, ascension + resurgence will heal you to full. Full stop, guaranteed, you actually pretty much can't get enough hp on this character to not overheal yourself by a pretty steep amount. After that, all you gotta do is just devour essence, mixed with epidemic to keep poison stacked, until masterful dodge and bountiful chi come back. By that point your opponent pretty much might as well be smacking you with flowers and rays of sunlight for all the good it'll do em.

If you do manage to drop, rebirth gives a huge dps boost when you get back up. I'll actually intentionally drop if the team's in trouble, because for like 20 seconds after you rez, you're a chainsaw.

I've been trying to figure out how to record my gameplay on this thing, so I can do a demo. I'd picked up fraps, but it stops after 30 seconds or so, which basically just led to me soloing the 5 man power house on hard without gear like 10 times while trying to figure out what the hell was wrong with my recording before I got bored.

I've gotten some feedback on this thing from a few people who've run it or retconned into it, and the consensus seems to be the same as my experiences: You stop caring and fling yourself face first at things because there's really not a thing in the game that can actually hurt you for long. I suggest trying it out on the pts, as you said you were considering. IMO, and part of why I posted this, this might be one of the better first 40s/first freeform character builds. It contains a lot of the necessary pieces for shoring up weaker characters or powering up a tank, and it survives well enough to get you used to em without having any of those "I need to hit this button RIGHT NOW OR I WILL DIE" problems dps characters tend to encounter. The nearly 11k hp it's easy to get with moderate gear certainly helps.

    Especially with armadillo gear. ^_^

Thank you for the very detailed description, I feel like I have a good grasp on how it works and I haven't even tried it yet XD
I'm definitely going to try it out, it fits my style pretty well.

--Edit-- There's a question I actually still do have - I've tried out the 11,000 Questionite Gear (Specifically the Cyber gear) and one question - is that gear good for leveling? Or is it better as gear to take at level 40?

Questionite gear is very good for leveling since it scales to your exact level. You don't have to worry about picking up new gear and can just sell off all of your drops.

When you get to level 40, it's still viable, but I feel you are much better off with the Heroic gear from Silver Recognition for your primary gear. For secondary gear, the purple gear from the Q-store is generally considered the cream of the crop, but I actually do have a couple of toons with the yellow Q-store gear for the half-set bonus.

This. I actually still use the armadillo gear on chernobyl to this day. the +25% defense from the secondaries makes her even tankier. :D

Let's do something different and fun. This is my best build (PvE) so far and maybe you've seen this hero in action. Yes, some choices seem very very odd but there are no mistakes below. So guess at what role(s), gears, mods/cores and devices and why they were chosen. Enjoy and have fun.

Hi Kaizerin, sorry I've haven't been paying attention to the forums. Was that the time we did Grav together? Are you #2 on this chart? If you are that's really good DPS and I'm surprised I held aggro.

I could never figure what any of these columns mean. What is the difference between Out and T? Was our T higher than Out because of the IoSC debuff I was spamming?

P.S. I will say this build is good for the Forum Malvanum Alert for hitting both Champs at once. Firewing is more annoying because he flies and moves you need to be near level next to him for NPG to hit him.

Out means straight up DPS the moment the log starts

TDPS means Timed DPS or something like that idk, but it only counts from the time you start attacking, regardless of when the log starts

    Ah thanks Selph!

FYI, the oddest part of the build is Laser Knight on Energy Shield which can only be activated by Shred. This tweak has made the build much more survivable -- bubble? Hit Shred then block, especially useful when Masterful Dodge is down. And it barely effects your damage.

The last unusual part of the build is Seraphim and Ascension. Well, combine that with Necrullitic Elixir and Support role... Plus Ascension acts like an emergency heal, not much but sometimes its enough. I can fight Grav in Support role if needed but the damage decrease is huge.
