Export costume for 3D printing

I just saw this article on DVice where 3D printers, potentially with photorealistic quality, will be soon coming to Staples.

Granted, it'll be a while before this service is available in the USA (they're starting in Belgium and the Netherlands), but I think now would be a good time to start thinking about how we could export our character designs to create full-color 25mm miniatures, or even larger statues for display at home.

Even if there was a small charge (say, 500 Zen) per conversion and download, I think this would be a good thing.

If a 2D Meme can be turned into a 3D printed object and marketed for $13 there's
no good reason we can't get Champions for around the same price.

It will be tricky when some parts of our character are the skin not the model.

Such as when i get stealth on the arm accessory batwing membrane ends up with the invisible part visible so the batlike edge serration dissapears and the material is longer going all the way to the hand, an effect i'm not complaining about by the way, it still looks great.

In which case exporting a character may need to somehow deal with the skin of the design or it may need some editing of the design afterwards. Challenges yes, but i dont think its impossible.

I've already made a custom lego figure of Dr Cerebellum (simple head swap thanks to the existing brain-in-jar lego piece) and am working on metal miniature versions. Clearly some of us like our characters enough to want to create our own merchandise for them.

Imagine if, for example, Heroclix were to partner with PW/Cryptic and enable us to make Heroclix figures of our characters!

We imagine these things now, within ten years it will be a reality.
I heard 3D printers are coming to Staples office supply retail stores soon.

Maybe Cryptic can't give us what we want but DAZ studio is free and already
has a comic book superhero super designer add on and game/production export pipeline.
