Can we do something about this?

In all seriousness, this is ridiculous. It's disgusting. It's completely excessive.

For those of you who want to see this atrocity in its full size, click here.

This kind of **** can give people a really, really bad impression of your game, extremely fast. There are so many of the damn things, they completely block my character out. Using Need or Greed at all pretty much guarantees there will be 3 of these things popping up every fight, if not enough to actually run off the top of the screen.

Can we admit that maybe this isn't working out? That something really needs to be done here? Most people I've teamed with are passing on the lockboxes to begin with, meaning that I'm stuck greeding them all to prevent a flood of trash exclamation points from littering every room. They're a terrible idea that brings all manner of bad PR to your company to begin with, before even getting into how intrusive they are during gameplay.

...I just recently realized something really disturbing. We're all eating Sodapop3's "humble pie."

    I don't see the issue.

Champions needs this feature to support future content.
What better way is to make sure that these lock boxes stay n the playerbase's mind than the current implementation.

Besides how long does it take to clear the box off the way?

Isn't it worth the minor distraction if it helps Champions Online grow?

I would suggest finding the nearest optometrist and taking advantage of his or her unique trade.

I mostly play another game now, and we have the same lockboxes there as well.
No one complains about them much.

I just can't understand the vitriol over them here.

When I do play champs, I just quickly close the need and greed tabs with little fuss.

Lock Boxes are advertisements for a service (keys).

You know all of those various types of free online services (Pandora, etc) where you can subscribe to avoid the interruption of advertisements ?

In CO a subscriber, who has access to the greater killing power of freeform characters, will frequently face MORE of the advertisements because he is a paying subscriber.

I too mostly play another game, which has lock boxes, now. They drop much less frequently there and are less intrusive when they do drop (no need or greed).

It would be very nice to see these categorized as a gear tier below blue so that at least they wouldn't trigger need or greed.

I don't get it. Why wouldn't you want to see the prompt of a dozen or so "need or greed" windows blocking off visibility by flowing up your screen if you want to support this game?

Like others have stated, I also have been playing another game that also has these wonderful lockboxes, and I adore the whopping 5 of them or so I've gotten in almost four weeks of continuous HOURS of play every single day. If only they didn't drop the required keys to open them as well with (roughly) equal frequency, I'd be able to support them as much as you have the chance to support this game.

But... alas, they DO drop the keys to the lockboxes--or just hand them to you as special rewards for completing content. So I must content myself with opening them with the keys I manage to find... for free (in addition to not having to sub to continue playing the game since it is B2P).

PS: Also, why should subscribers not be required to see these lockboxes if they want to support this game? The more boxes they have the more chances they get to help to pave the way for future content releases.

My solution, as flimsy as it is:

Round Robin or Master Looter loot mode.

Master Looter is best, because if there's someone you don't like in your team you can just give them ALL the lockboxes! :O

Need/Greed is a crappy loot mode anyway.

How 'bout an option for subs / LTs to not have lockboxes drop?

My solution: a setting to automatically need, greed, or render invisible all lockboxes.

On STO I found those popups a real PITA, particularly in the middle of an active STF when I'm REALLY BUSY DOING SOMETHING ELSE.

I really despise the lotto mentality lockboxes bring, and since their introduction on both games my interest and play of both games has dropped drastically.

The irritation I feel about them is the same as constantly running into people on the street handing out advertisement fliers, with their out-stretched arms blocking my way and begging me to just take the slip of paper practically begging me to buy whatever it is that's advertised. It's okay if I run into them on occasion, but not every damn 1-3 minutes or so for an hour straight. It gets downright obnoxious.

If they want to keep the drop rates of lockboxes high as an insurance of meeting possible high demands of cosmic key purchasers, fine, so be it. Just flag lockboxes as white loot and we can call it a day.

You guys should get on Cryptic about this. In STO we never have a roll for a lockbox. Lockboxes are just randomly dropped in space, for someone to pick up. If they want it that is. I know i just delete most of mine, or sell them on exchange if they are worth it at the time.

I agree there is something wrong. They have to get rid of the Need/Greed loot dialog and use round robin while teaming.

Okay, I figured it you guys. This is just a way that they found to utilize underused content. I mean honestly, how often do you guys change the loot settings? Pff, and we have the nerve to ask for new content when we aren't even fully utilizing what we have.

Game/UI settings being considered content? This isn't a certain other game in a galaxy far far away where you have to pay for UI elements. Don't give PWE any crazy ideas.

Personally, I'd like to see them classified as Purple drops. That way they are added automatically to the inventory of whoever made the kill, both bypassing Need/Greed AND not cluttering up space AND not having to worry about them until you hit 99 of the worthless things and delete the stack.

Well now we're sure about two things :
    - the Devs are myopic,
    - the Devs never run a NemCon.
