So, my first freeform is lvl 22 now. He seems to roll over game content without major issues, but has a fairly miserable dueling record. I would love to give the PVP games a try one of these days, and put up a decent fight in duels... but I think my build may be a factor in my lack of success.
My concept is a light manipulator, creating light constructs, light shields, and laser beams of death. Its a pretty broad theme, so I expect a viable pvp toon could still keep the theme vaguely intact.
So I went with PPF as my passive. Took field surge. For offense I went the ranged telekinetic route with the energy builder and block, t-burst for AoE (and ego leech), and the lance for single-target damage. I also took the energy builder for the tk tree and ego surge.
I went with Intelligence as my primary SS, with ego and recovery as secondaries.
My lack of a heal is likely a major issue. I've been planning to grab a heal next, but would like to grab a bubble at some stage too (bubbles are cool).
So, I'm not firmly set on PFF. I would like to use some sort of force-field though.
Any thoughts from ye wise olde grizzled vets of the game?
The wiki seems horrible out of date btw.

I would suggest stacking as much Dodge/Avoid points as you can. Mitigation from Dodging calculates first, which means it'll help your PFF last longer. Further PFF suggestions can be found in the following thread:

Definitely would be worth grabbing a bubble, as now they stack over PFF (used to be that was first).

Yeah, I got that dodge stacking memo from Cyrone's post. I know that PFF has gone through some changes of late though... and I'm pretty fuzzy on how it works now. But yeah I'll bug Cyrone about it on his thread, or try to do some indipendant research:eek:.
I started another toon with regen. He's still pretty low level, but seems significantly sturdier than my PFFer. Maybe its a game balance (or lack thereof) thing. Or, maybe I'm just not doing the PFF thing very well.. I suspect it's probably a bit of both.
- Inertal Dampening Field - Form Power - Recently updated to fit nicely over PFF and provides a nice damage absorb over PFF
- Masterful Dodge - Active Defensive - I think one of the most versatile AD's out there, since you have INT primary you'd benefit from having two AD's with Cooldown.
- Conviction - Healing Power - Relatively powerful self healing on click, and with INT should have a low Cooldown
- Molecular Self Assembly - Energy Unlock - Works fantastically with the stats your statted with and with the CD's you'll have + Conviction you'll have next to no energy problems.
Since you arent too firmly set on PFF, I would suggest going for Seraphim Passive or Shadow Form and running in Hybrid Role, both provide some healing, either as a passive function (Seraphim) or as a hp on attack style of heal (shadow form). I would say that the Shadow Form is better if you want to have some stealth built into your build but Seraphim looks better IMO.
If you do decide to change passive and still want to use force fields...I'd suggest getting Protection Field, however this power does scale with +bonus healing, so benefits/scales well with Presence Super Stat. You can live without PRE SS, but your shields may struggle to make it over 1.9k
Protection Field is spammable (thankfully) and can provide some much needed protection and can even serve as a shield other function, which via your Ego stat can grant energy when the shield is struck.
I'll quickly draw up a build based on the theme, ( I know how important theme is ) as for PvP viability... I can try and work in CC and NTTG, but I'd recommend to grab those advantages after level 40 so you dont draw unnecessary agro or get yourself into tight situations before you can handle it.
I'll post the build in my next post.

But if you feel confident to take them whenever then do as you please.
I personally wouldnt waste 5 advantage points on PvP stuff.
Do not that this build is quite a defensive looking build, as naturally I am quite cautious and like to play mainly defensively.
Many different improvements can be suggested to this build by other players, but I would strongly suggest to maintain some key elements of the build, Namely;
-MSA - Energy Unlock
-Protection Field (for theme)
-Masterful Dodge (AD)
-Field Surge (for theme)
-Conviction (good heal power and great for proccing MSA)

Looks a bit like a build I was running (before I decided to give PFF another try). I was using seraphim, MSA, and a protection field. It didn't feel like I was getting alot out of MSA (I may not have had enough cooldown powers). However, the damage boost from seraphim was quite appreciable. I also tried AoPM, but I found the weird runes spewing out of my toon irritated my eyeballs.
Telekinetic assault seems like a great power (esp w a few advantages), but the animation is very glitchy for me... which is why I went with TK burst. Too bad because the graphics as intended (flying energy knives) would fit my toon's theme perfectly. Just one of several graphics-related issues I have with the game (not seeing lifted objects is really annoying).
Anyhoo, thanks again. I'll give this a build a spin.

Looks like a fun build Cyrone, I'll be trying this out. I was thinking of adding some ego-melee to my build (for theme) anyway...so this seems about right to me. I just wish they had some more visually interesting ego weapon options.
Thanks muchly!
