The Reloaded update for Champions Online is now live, including the much-anticipated launch of vehicles!

This update introduces a number of customizable vehicles, with thirteen available chasses and slottable powers and buffs.

These vehicles and MODs are available from a number of different sources, including a new Hover Tank Arsenal lock box and direct through the C-Store. In addition, you can get a number of non-weapon MODs through the new "Assault on UNTIL Sky Command" mission.

Vehicles are live now in the latest update, Champions Online: Reloaded. We've also updated our wallpaper and screenshot sections of the site!

Load up and take flight, Champions!

Are the bikes actually available in this patch?

LOL, no wonder.....there isn't much of anything good to say about this pointless and unheroic vehicle system. Guess they are fed up with the,in my opinion, justified criticism.

What exaclty does this update include other than vehicles and one special event/mission for said vehicles? Near as I can tell nothing other than a few power fixes and that deserves this much hype??

The sad truth is, that all this 'new' and 'exciting' content in this update - vehicles - has to be bought in the Z-Store. There are no free vehicles. So basically all we got in this HUGE and AMAZING update is a new mission. Unless you actually want to pay real money for the new feature of the game.

Nicely done, Cryptic. Nicely done. Not.

Wise decision on their part. Think this business decision will be one remembered as what not to do.

I never thought I'd find myself feeling the way I did when SWG released their "combat upgrade".

Do we have to buy a vehicle to play the new air-carrier mission? Or does the mission provide us with some sort of "base" vehicle like the old Nighthawk mission?

I saw bikes in various pictures, but are they not in this patch?

You'll get a super-fast hover board. Faster then travel powers since it doesn't slow down when attacking...Or something.

And no bikes. Nope. Nope nope nope...

You get some hover disc or base vehicle when doing the mission. So you can do it without spending money on some actual vehicle.

And fear not! Hoverbikes are sure to be added and locked in Scamboxes in the future. ;D

The REAL answer needs a question first.

Are you survivable DPS? If not then yes you need a vehicle. They made the mission with modded vehicles in mind.

So we seriously can't post on the main site blog?

Guess they wanted to protect themselves from the Justified customers and their reactions to the system, which aren't very good, honestly, I can't see why they try to put things similar to things from STO into CO, even though they won't work here, vehicles are a PERFECT example of this, they're obviously trying to copy STO's premium ships, and think that they fit in here, the problem here is that not every single hero out there is a vigilante or soldier with no powers like superspeed/flight/teleportation/etc. and even some of the technology themed heroes (namely powered armors) won't even use, I mean, they already have a vehicle in the form of power armor and jet boots. In my opinion, pouring all resources into a 1000 Zen priced DLC with a new zone, missions, and what-not would have been WAY more productive, because more players will use it.For vehicles also, if they are a must-have in the game, at least STO gave free low tier ships, they think that the low tier stuff here costs close to 2000?!
I'm sorry to say but I really can't see the whole vehicle system as it is now ending well, probably like the nemesis system and adventure packs, and by that I mean something that was at first shiny and new, and then abandoned because not enough people used them.

Yeah, I took my new Invincible, Detroit Iron, through "A Bit of the Old Ultra-Violence" today, and I gotta tell you, just knowing there were tanks out there somewhere made blasting Black Aces across the room with my Chest Beam just feel so hollow. Wait, no, not "hollow" - what's that other thing? Oh, yeah, "immensely satisfying."

Why is it ruining the game for you if someone else has a toy you don't want?

Are the vehicles even customizable in terms of appearance? Can I do anything to affect the look of it like paint color or scheme? I don't like that this new game update had so little to it, and all that it did come with has a price gave on it. This is the exact kind of thing that makes Sto less fun. I hope they at least balance the vehicles better for playing with those not buying them. I'd hate to think that the only way to hit top spot in some events is to spend money.

Nope. Aside from guns to use and the cup holders, you got very little in customization.

Don't worry, at least there is no difference between vehicle chassis! Except that some are better then others...

The vehicles are great and all but I only have like one character that would actually use them. Most of my characters tend to be super natural or naturally born with the ability to fly etc so it wouldn't even make sense for someone like superman to use a hovertank.

I guess to really take advantage of this update im going to have to come up with additional alts.

Let's not forget that the Prototypes, which were supposed to have special benefits different than the other vehicles, got a HUGE nerf, so therefore what you paid 1500 Zen for is no longer what you purchased, therefore a possible "bait and switch" business practice right there.

They either need to restore the Prototypes back to their original state or Cryptic/Perfect World may be on the losing end of a very NASTY lawsuit and federal investigation.

I don't understand why you are so completely devoted to ignoring any mention of the possible shifting focus of development away from the core gameplay, e.g. "blasting Black Aces across the room with [your] Chest Beam," caused by intruducing a system that will garner more money by selling powers and higher ranked/tiered mods and vehicles.

Or maybe the possible PvE balancing issues created by overshadowing current powers and combat.

Don't get me wrong, I like, you're usually pretty good peoples, but this seems like blind contradiction/denial.

Because, pion, to read the forums lately (or Zone Chat, if, like me, you're foolish enough to leave it on), you'd think that introducing these vehicles utterly eliminated every single thing the game ever had. Now all there are are hovertanks and jets, it would seem.

And yet, when I don't bother thinking about those things, my gameplay experience is exactly what it was last week, except with fewer server crashes (which, reading between the lines, had to do with the old Hawkwing top speed, and people reaching it and crashing the system).

Essentially, I've been trying to tell people, both blatantly and through examples like the above, that if you don't like the new vehicles, don't buy any. I'm not likely to, especially at those prices. They will only keep a system going as long as it's turning a profit (as the lockboxes apparently do); if it doesn't, they'll change it until it does. Cryptic is, after all, a business, and will try to maximize the bottom line any way we let them get away with.

And all the angst floating about the forums and Chat today won't change that bottom line one way or the other - it's just a rather aggravating waste of bandwidth.

Edit: And the new mission only requires that you be able to fly. I helped save the Sky Command carrier with Happifun Security System X-4, who wears a jetpack and is protected by three levels of Invincibility.

It's not based on Star Wars so I'll take it! But it would have to feature that back step so I can peddle my side kick around if they ever finish that system (although that will probably be more devices again). God forbid he tried to ring the bell though....

On a more serious note I'm a little disappointed in this "full fledged vehicle system". It's still just a glorified become device which hardly seems like a system of its own. Not to mention that there is no visual customization after purchase (which sucks when in a game all about customization) as well as so few types. I only count two, a jet and a tank. Sure there are some slight variations of, but it's still just a jet and a tank. All the promo stuff is showing bikes we can't even get which is shady, but I just think they should have spent a bit more time to make it an actual full system worth of a name changing update.

    I think:
    Q
1: vehicles should come with base stats of that type no matter the chassis and rely on mods to change them at all.
2: be customizable in looks as well. Have a few base models with a few interchangeable parts.
3: incorporate clear canopies so you can see whose in it (tailor option)
4: have more than just two base vehicle styles at launch.
5: should be a lot less expensive if they're a single character unlock.

That'd be nice. Now I get the reasons why they didn't make it so we could seriously fiddle with the looks of these things in the Character Creator, most of which comes down to UI stuff being a boatload of work and easy to mess up. Fair enough. But honestly, all I want to do is change the color. Like go from something hot orange to more earth or industrial tones (because, damnit, I like browns and greens and greys). How about a list of skins we can pick from, that have no bearing on performance or anything, but can be swapped out for different colors?

It's just... I'm a whole lot less interested in buying a hoverbike or whatever if my only options look like GI Joe toys. And not the cool GI Joe toys either. I mean the florescent orange and purple tank with a catapult on it.

Or barring some kind of skin swapping system, maybe just sell a variety of color patterns that are no different than the base model except that one is red, one is black, one tank is desert camo, one is forest camo, one is arctic camo, one is UNTIL colors, another VIPER colors, etc. A bunch of otherwise identical things, same price for that model, just different color schemes. So the Stealth Hawkwing becomes Stealth Hawking - Black, with also Stealth Hawkwing - Arctic, Stealth Hawkwing - Military where you throw on some old school browns or something.

If you're wondering why people feel a tad exhasperated, it's because, well... the feeling is you guys spent months working on this and not new missions or stories or zones or comic packs or powers or costumes. Instead we get this... odd looking toy, and word is you're now working on sidekicks... which sounds an awful lot like a device you activate that summons an AI pet, and that's all you get.

Heck, I think most people would've prefered more with the hovertank if it looked like an Abrams with the treads replaced by hoverjets. :p

I would hope not, they already did the sidekick device, and it was quickly abandoned like a lot of other things. If they were to bring it back I'd much rather it be something I can edit in the tailor or power house to fit my hero's style rather than just having to buy the same ones every one else. I just think it would have been a little nicer to get the same options for vehicles.

Another nice touch would have been being able to put emblems and logos on them to match the ones on the hero. This game was built around complete customization, so I'm a little sad that its not updated and enhanced more.

And why YOU complain about complainers? Don't like it, don't read it.

Who you to complain about their complaint about all the complaining?

(Especially since the complaints are the equivalent of a kid getting a 8gb iPhone instead of the 16gb and threatening to run away from home over it.)
