That's the STO model for ships. A high end ship as a best price as a lock box, and another high ship that can be gotten via the consolation currency.
Except for the Odyssey (been out for a while) and Vespa (due out shortly) line. Both ship sets are C-Store only (AFAIK) and cost a whopping $25 each (or $50 for a three pack so each captain type can use them). Also, they're given to every single character that you make (that can use them - the Klingons get their own version of the Odyssey).
Given, then why were they even introduced as such? You mean the devs did not realise the jets were flying as fast as they are in live compared to PTS?
Perhaps its because GC was not around back during beta when the speed causing server issues came to be known and so didnt take such into consideration when initially developing the vehicles.

So does that mean that modded vehicles won't cause the same problem? Oh I get it, it's a "problem" if we don't pay extra to "fix" it. Personally I would rather they had left the prototypes as they are. Not slots and no nerfed speed. A lot of us that go them did it for the travel, not the combat. If there are already alternate Hawking jets why "upgrade" (sounds like a downgrade) the prototype ones?
There is a direct purchase vehicle with the most mod slots (200 Drifter Salvage).
Drifter salvage is not a direct purchaseable option, you need to spend $66 on 66 keys to open gamble boxes to get that salvage.
A direct purchase is where you pay for what you want, not 66 gamble bags you arent looking for to get the item you want from a currency locked inside them.
I had HOPED the prototype updates were going to be optional.
Yeah, I have to cry foul with everone else on this one.
That's kinda bull**** if you let us BUY prototype vehicles for specific stats and then nerf them. ANd I don't mean a little nerf. They are WORTHLESS. There is no benefit to them when compared to the 8-slot new vehicles.
I'm an avid supporter and I definitely have to say, you screwed us over on this one.
I'm really disappointed.
At the VERY LEAST, you could have given us the option of dumping all the weapons and functions of the prototypes in order to add speed.
That would have been something.
Or instituted some kind of "buy back" program. Since you did alter the agreement of our purchase terms which was for a specific set of goods, then you changed them after-the-fact.
That's getting shady there... and I know you know what I mean (if you ever actually read this).

The maximum possible speed for moddable vehicles is lower than the speed possible with original prototype Hawkwings. So yes.
Dear sir, I did catch your point that the maximum speed will be lower than posible with the original prototype which is why you keep mentioning almost as fast.
If as you have clarified, that the original high speed will give server problem especially if more players come onboard with the vehicles and it is not cost efficient for you guys to upgrade the server (assuming it is not already top notch) I can accept a speed nerf.
However, shouldn't the early adopters then be given the maximum speed mods to ensure that their prototypes still performs near the original which they paid for rather than having to pay again?
Anyway, it really does not bother me that much even though I may own 1 of them. I like my characters with or without the vehicles after all I signed up for a superhero game. However, the whole thing once again just feels like bad business. This is nothing against a particular dev or yourself but I thought it will be good to feedback to management about how it has made their players feel.
While I can understand and even agree to a point with the posts about the 'nerf' to prototype speeds (which is also one of the biggest reasons a couple of my chars have these, assuming they fit concept) - having actually looked at my prototypes in the new update, the "weapon" loadouts that we get to hang on to compared with the stock loadout on the new jets is actually quite impressive. Even if they offered a buy-back, I wouldn't trade my prototype for a new one at all.
(Just need to find some better fuel now, she seems to be flying a bit slow... )
As part of the update to the full-fledged vehicle update, launching tomorrow morning, we'll be updating the prototype versions of the Hawkwing Jets to be customizable. This will be an automatic upgrade to all the prototype Hawkwings out there. There will also be the Mark 2 versions of the jets, but the updated prototypes will be a little different.
We learned a lot from the prototypes, and we really appreciate everyone who was an early adopter. One of the things we learned the most about was weapon powers, and going forward, there's planned to be a maximum of four vehicle weapon powers (granted by MODs). The updated prototypes, however, will retain all of their powers -- don't worry, your jet won't have mysteriously shed a gun or two tomorrow morning. The updated prototypes will probably be the most heavily-armed vehicles around for a while.
Updated prototypes will have access to vehicle customization through the MOD system. Each updated prototype will have one Defense slot and one Support slot, which you can add MODs to for stat boosts. Because of the combination of speed-boosting MODs and server performance issues with characters covering too much ground too quickly, unfortunately we had to reduce the speed of vehicles. With a full load of speed-boosting MODs, though, you can get to pretty much the speeds of the old prototypes.
Thanks again to everyone who gave vehicles a try in their early phase, we really appreciated it. Next time you see a prototype jet unloading with a bewildering arsenal of different powers, you'll know they're a vehicle veteran!
Hoping to avoid drama, here. But what concessions are being made for those that purchased the prototype jets that were deleted? We purchased that particular jet from the zen store via paypal or whatever outside source and I'm curious why our items were deleted without our consent. Well.. I couldn't care less really. But I WOULD like a refund and/or the item I purchased. One or the other would be fine. Don't want to get paypal claims involved and show them this thread
Also, your paypal transaction customer service line is bogus (which paypal will not be happy about) soooo.. this is my only other option for contacting you guys.
Thanks pumpkin!

*Warning* Incredibly angry customer ranting, parental supervision is advised *Warning*
Anyone else feel like PWE suddenly just rammed a large and spiked foreign object . . . ama refrain from continuing the statement, but that's how it feels and how angry this game has finally made me.
This game has so many awesome things and the potential to do even greater things and yet all they seem to focus on is how to further drive it to the ground.
I really don't understand why you'd want to alienate your best customers in this way, right before trying to sell us on more vehicles. Fool me once...etc.
At the very least, why can't you provide the speed mods for the early adopters so that we "almost" have what we originally paid for?
Best post in this whole thread. Couple this with the silly lock boxes and I'm done buying most of your stuff: Costumes and travel powers are all you have left as worthwhile buys. And those will only come from my stipend. Your bait & nerf tactics are disheartening.

But I will not buy a CHANCE to get one. Sorry.
I'm actually not sure, offhand. I would assume Mark 1, as only two weapon MODs are currently at Mark 2.
So for 1500 Zen we all bought gimped vehicles?
