I've just resubbed after 756 days and the crafting system has apparently been totally changed.
Is there any tutorial out there that explains how to make these mods and fusions? What do I do with the old mats? Can I still destroy drops I get to get mats? If so, how? I have an Arms skill of 310 currently on my 40.
There's a tutorial available, yes. It's the "Fusion Powered Modifications" mission that you should get automatically when you get an item that has slots in it. It's a level 15 mission, and it has you talk to Max Planck in the Mods and Fusion building in Ren Center.
You can no longer destroy drops to gain materials (unfortunately, because that would've been profitable).
Your old materials, like your Cyber Chips and your Viperium Flex Alloys and your Agharti Lessons and what have you, are now fundamentally useless. You have a few options with how to deal with them:
-Hold control and right-click on them, and you can convert the materials to mods. This will affect EVERY material you have, in all your bags AND your bank. You'll get a bunch of random rank 1 mods, ready to fuse.
-Sell them, they still have a resource value.
-If you're like me and you've grown fond of their flavor text, you can keep them around in a supergroup vault as a museum.
There is an NPC in the back end of the old science crafting building that can give you a crash course.
The full course.
LEVELING
You level up your R&D using the crafting nodes found around the maps. Use the higher level ones in Monster Island, Lemuria and Vibora Bay until you find a good nesting area to hop between for levels.
CONVERTING COMPONENTS
You can convert all your components into mods in one fell swoop. They will turn into rank 1s. (If you feel nostalgic about them, keep at least one of each kind and set them in your hideout bank or SG or something before you convert.)
RANKING UP MODS
Ranking up your mods is pretty simple. By using Ctrl Right clicking one you open up a mod fusion window. Stack 5 of the same kind to rank it up. You have to do the 5 same ones at that new rank for each additional rank. (Best go farm for those mods in Alert Bursts or in higher level missions on Elite.)
MODDING GEAR
There will be gear in game that has slots for the mods. Use the mods by Ctrl Right clicking a gear with the slots (shown at the bottom of the picture with what looks like 1-3 slots) and put them in. There are three types of mods (Enhancement, Armoring and Utility) and each kind works on specific slots. Utility ones change based on what kind of primary gear you put on them (shown in the mod description for Offense, Defense and Utility).
TIPS
Its recommended that you save up for rank 5 mods and put them in either blue gear found or run Hotspots for Silver Recognition. Use Silver Recog in the back of the recog store (behind Defender now) to choose which purples suit you best.
Remember these ones have three slots so you determine what stats go on them with the three types of mods, their current stats are effect bonuses. Choices in mods are permanent but can be removed for a fee of G for lower ranks and Questionite for all the rest, or can be overwritten by destroying the mod you are overlapping that is already in gear.
Thanks folks. The problem I was having was that I had no moddable gear, so Mr. Plank didn't wanna talk to me. Problem solved. Thanks for the help folks.
