The comics are positively brimming with spines heroes and villains, so where are they in Champs?
I think that Champions Online didn't want to touch that archetype of character because another great hero based game had them, but lets face it...spines are all over comic. From Kid Omega to Bones to Spike to The Urchine and many more there is a long standing tradition of bony spine and spike based characters. It wouldn't take much to do either. All you really need:
- Some sort of explosive spine burst (Like force eruption, but with spines)
- A spike based passive that damaged people that came into melee damage range (just spines sticking out with a touch range and a purchase based perk to make a constant stream of spikes shower out a hybrid of ranged and melee like Night Avenger)
- A spike toss that is fast (end builder)
- A spike claw swipe that is fast (a second, non-ranged end builder)
- A spike lance that pins people (a control type power with a heavy root)
- A deep punch that leaves a spike behind (lots of damage alpha type power)
- An attack that leaves spikes in the ground (A slow like Pongee sticks)
- An arc of spines as an AoE
- A spike grappling hook that could drag opponents over to you with a jerk
- An elbow strike that pushes opponents away...then roots or slows them
- A sudden toss of a bunch of spines that paralyzes the target
- A power where you roll into a ball and roll at your target as a lunge like a bowling ball with spikes
- A shield of spikes that hurts people you walk into
- A summon that calls a spiky critter like a porcupine, or little odd demon or a squidish hentaiacle monster or perhaps a cuddly sea urchine!
...ok that last one was a stretch, but you get the point.
This has been on the forums over and over. It's comic based, it's fun and it could make a lot of people happy. Please please think about it, devs. Seriously. Thanks.
I'm working on a concept for such a set, also involving tentacle powers and usable for plant characters. I really need to get that done and on the forums...
I posted 2 years ago for a spine set hope that it gets made. You have some great ideas that could make a new awesome set. Just want the sloted passive for spines to tick spines dmg over time like CoH quills power. This would be a pain to fight if ur steath char. Spines would have toxic dots and prob a new debuff that stacks spine stuff. With a power to hit the ememy for each stack for one big atk move. I just hope to see a spines set made and hopefully maybe they add a Gravity type set to then again we have force but that anit real gravity.
the CoX set was always a bit ranged for my tastes. if thats how it went, then i would accept it, but would rather something probably in the Brick frameworks - possibly dealing with damage shields and bleeds.

but mostly i would prefer the tentacle set XD
At least in my (still unfinished -.-) concept, it would be a "Supernatural Growth" set, involving both spines (primary weapon) and tentacles (chain power reskin). I'm also thinking about passives or forms that allow focus on Bleed or Deadly Poison, giving it some synergy with Bestial and Infernal respectively.

i would sudgest not finishing it TOO much - ideas they can run with. if you actually post out a fully developed framework tho they couldn't use it (or probably anything too close to it) due to the worry that if they did they would get sued for stealing someone's ideas. the legal system sucks that way.

Don't worry about that. The ideas posted on this forum are knowingly and willingly offered to Cryptic. The posters claim no copyright. And even if they could, why would they suggest their ideas to Cryptic instead of keeping them to themselves?
What Cryptic does with our suggestions is Cryptic's choice.

oh i totally agree. i only brought it up cause i remember it was brought up once along time ago when someone put a LOT of effort into some idea of a power set or another. (don't remember the power set, sadly). then again i don't quite recall if it was one of the devs that mentioned that or just another player being overly cautious, like myself. XD

Spine type powers (more of barbed) have always been more traditionally thrown stuff, as well as punchy stuff, so I think a set that is a mix of both would work out well. This definitely would not be a brick set though, IMO.

I guess so, if you look at heros like Merrow or X-men evolutions Spyke. I still was thinking more like damage shields and punchy stuff, but honestly would settle for anything, and still would MOSTLY want the tendril set (or as stated above, a set that does both)

Yes. I want.
Deliciously nutritious!
