My reasoning is not just for vanity, but "The Charactername" never really fits into NPC text all that well, so "the" in your title could alleviate that.
As a title it could be handy and lets face it titles cannot be hard to add

I like this idea, I'mma run with it, but point of clarification: While it isn't hard, per se, it does take time. The title has to be created, but more importantly, the way the title is distributed has to be created. It does take some time, sadly.
That being said, I like this title, and I want. Even for something relatively small like this, it has to be justified, though -- which doesn't mean it won't happen, but rather that it has to be justified as something other than a vanity project.

I recall having this option in CoH, so would be a good idea to push along...

'The' title would help one of my (and there are more people with The Names out there) character not be 'the The Finnish' when some NPC speaks to him...
Or is that vanity??

What do you need to "justifty" it? If it's public opinion/desire, COUNT ME IN! I too, would like a "The" title.
Having it as a free unlock or oftered via some kind of mission or perk, that would be great/ideal, but I would even be willing to buy it off the C-Store if it was account-wide and not too expensive (less than $3, let's say).

Heh. For the rare time when a character does have 'the' in their names, I generally just assume it's a copyright thing in-character.
"Okay, listen, Champions, you have to remember that I am 'THE' Ninjaman, okay? Not just Ninjaman. There was a legal dispute a while back between me and him who works over in Houston, and we resolved it be me calling myself 'the' Ninjaman, as I am technically a franchisee operating in his name here in Detroit. Now can I join the main team? Sick of being in the reserve squad New Champions guys..."
"Next. We'll call you if we accept your application."
"No! Ninjas are still capable of fighting crime! We don't just flip out and kill people! Why doesn't anyone take me seriously!!!!"
"I said, NEXT, because you're emitting a high pitched wail which is making me go crazy! AND YOU WON'T LIKE ME WHEN I'M CRAZY."

Yeah, it was there, but not as a Title option, as I recall.
If I remember correctly, you could add the word "The" before your name, separately from the character's title. It was like in a little drop box before your name on the character UI.
Yea. 'The' in CoH was asked when you named your character. And you could add it there later also. And it didn't appear when npc's talked to you as 'Hello the The NAMEHERE'.

Possibly as a perk for completing the tutorial? After all, that's where we get our "fame" as far as the NPC citizens seem concerned "You did a great job fighting off the Qularr!".. seems appropriate that we'd be able to be "THE <hero name>" at the point that random NPCs are coming up to us asking for autographs.
I'd also like to put in my vote for some AT-tied titles (if these already exist to some degree, please forgive my not noticing), when you unlock a new power in the AT, you get a semi related title. Since I use fire AT on my main character, I've always wanted "The Blazing" (as in "The Blazing Red Ribbon").. and I think it would be a fun thing to have various other fire related titles showing up as I leveled up my fire character (The Infernal, The Radiant, The Flaming, The Fiery, etc).

This.. this is pure win. A COOKIE FOR YOU GOOD SIR!
As for reasoning, it's sort of a basic title. It should be the first title you could ever apply. champions loves to mow over the basics periodically, this can be a part of that. Or is that not a good reason? ._.
In any case, I vant!

Hiya Podsix. FYI, you can get some of those colorful titles for doing/receiving damage. For example: Blazing comes from doing 10,000,000 points of Fire Damage. Here's a list:

OH For Pity's sake!!
Of course it's a vanity project. *@#$% Everything in this game that isn't a power or a critter is a bleeping vanity project!
Costumes variations
Travel Power variations
Hideout variations
Hell anything in the game that isn't a generic this or that, if it has more than one version of something ITS A BLEEPING VANITY PROJECT
If we have to find some other way to justify new content, even something as measly as a title I now understand why we can't get any RP content, some bleep higher up than you calls it a vanity project and it's dismissed.

Fine, tell the board of directors that for every 10 ex CoX players coming in 1 stays because they can use "The" in their title.
Then tell the board that for every 10 that stays, 1 spends $5 in the C-store...

As the last few posters above me have pointed out, in a game that is as heavy on the player character customization as this one is, wouldn't a "vanity project" be justification enough? As it stands, we already have several costume packs, travel power variations, and several sets of rather superfluous Hideouts - none of which are essential to play the game in the slightest are are simply there to enhance a character's appearance (or in the case of Hideouts, enhance their... social standing, I guess? If that).

Point of clarification -- by "vanity project," I meant my own vanity. Like "This would be awesomezors, we should have it!" rather than "If we use this title in this particular way, there's enough interest that it would drive behaviors in this way."

Hmm - would it be good enough if the title "The" were to be contingent upon clearing the tutorial? (Thus, toons with the Headstart Hero perk would not be eligible to be "The" - but toons who have already run through it would find it added to their titles.)
After all, not every character would work with "The" as a title anyway - for instance, my emergency backup Silver account now includes an Unleashed named "Stabby the Very Bad Clown" (I had a dream while napping, and, well...). He wouldn't want the title, because it would be kind of dumb to be named "The Stabby the Very Bad Clown".
On the other tentacle, Spider-Bat might very well be interested in going by "The Spider-Bat". Like an adult undergarment, it all depends.
"Science teaches us to expect -- demand -- more than just eerie mysteries. What use is a puzzle that can't be solved? Patience is fine, but I'm not going to stop asking the universe to make sense!"

Ah, I figured that might have been what you were referring to, so it was good that you clarified.
As long as it's not too hard to get i don't mind. I really want The as a title for several of my heroes!
