PTS update FC.30.20120820.10
This build is scheduled to hit PTS by 2:00pm PST

Greetings!

As we wrap up work on the Nighthawk mission and the new vehicles, we'd like to give you all a crack at them before they go Live.
In addition to content updates, we're rolling out stability improvements that should reduce the amount of crashes (game server and client) that players have been experiencing.

Please format any bugs you find in the following format:

Critters:
-Fixed Gravitar powers balance


"Who Is Nighthawk?":
-Added more cutscenes!
-New "crime scene" location art
-Added contact dialog to areas around Nighthawk sightings
-Completing mission should now reward players with "Utility Belt" chancebox reward


Vehicles:
-Hawkwing vehicles are now restricted to larger, outdoor zones and maps
-Hawkwing vehicles should no longer explode on despawn

Stability:
-Fixed Guild-related crashes.
-Various stability improvements that should reduce client and game server crashes

    So glad to hear about the stability improvements.

    Even overlooking the other bugs that cropped up, I've just been crashing a ton lately and it's frustrating.

    Thank God. The only way to beat this Alert, as it is on Live, is to bring Smoke Grenade along for the fight. And play Ranged only.

    It sounds like the Nighthawk stuff is practically completed, so I'm going to skip out on testing and just wait for it to come to live to experience it in its entirety.

    Also, I don't like picking up the reward box and getting the rarest thing on the PTS since its a wasted drop. =p

    so am i getting this right? these devices that are placeholders for the actuall vehicles are getting pushed to live?

    translation, we couldn't get the real thing to actually work and it kept crashing the updates to live so we half assed it and did this instead.

    Translation: They had this planned the entire time. They said somewhere a while ago or something that this was their plan. Nighthawk would be the launch of the very basic part of Vehicles, and that they planned a full on launch of them (with customizable powers and ship models and everything else) towards the end of the year.

    Bug: Using Gas Pellets + Pestilence cause Pestilence to damage YOU.

    [0:09] Your Pestilence deals 72 (141) Toxic Damage to you.


    This was also tested with Epidemic, Gas Arrow, and Defile. None of these powers produced the same results. My conclusion then is that it's Gas Pellets.

    1. Please give us Daily PVP missions that reward Questionite.

    The same like we should get more rooms in our Hideouts ? Personally i would prepare
    for that we get some become devices .. and then even moar become devices and after
    6 months we get wallcrawling devices or whatever else.

    That doesn't even make any sense.
    Frankly, Cryptic has been pretty on-point in delivering the content they've said they were going to. The new Alerts, the new powers, the new Archetypes, and now the prototype Vehicles, which has been repeatedly pointed out, are not going to be reflective of the final system debuting later this Fall.
    Cryptic has been getting their act together for a bit now, bugs and stability issues aside, and even those have been taken care of pretty quickly (aren't we getting a patch now to fix the stability issues of the last few days?).
    Again: I'm believing Cryptic when they say that the final system is gonna be different. Why? I suspect that they have converted STO's Starship system to work for CO, which isn't too much of a stretch considering both of these games run the same engine at their core. So they've already had a major part of the work done for them already, and have probably just been tossing together new UI's, loot, and art assets for us.

    Ok to say it directly : i'm also absolutely not interestet in what they want to make with the
    vehicles .. for me its just wasted time where they could better finally start to give us
    REAL content .. and that means for me : NEW ZONES.

    Wasn't also always told that the whole item overhaul for On Alert was to make it easier
    for a level cap ? Still a year ago a new Zone was a thing for the far future .. one year later
    its still in the far future and it was shrinked from a full zone to an expansion of MC.
    Next year we maybe hear we get in far Future something like the Mini-VB Questarc
    somewhere in far Future.

    I understand your optimism, but do you really think they would tell us if they made a coding mistake and that's why the updates kept getting rolled back? you can be a fan boy all you want Cryptic is perfect world now face facts and move on you'll feel better.

    Not every content update to the game can please everyone, to be honest I could've done without the alert update, but it is still content and it did build upon the game as a whole.

    • Vehicles!
    - A brand-new system for customizing, equipping and riding vehicles into battle!
    - Vehicles will offer all-new powers, including new mechanics such as area-of-effect ground targeting, which can be swapped in and out via fully customizable ?upgrade and equipment? items
    - Vehicles will come with an equipment load-out as standard, which can be completely exchanged with new items such as:
    - Offensive items (i.e. mini-guns, rocket packs, laser pods, etc)
    - Defensive items (i.e. extra hull-plating, flares, smoke grenades, etc)
    - Utility items (i.e. turbo-boost thrusters, self-repairing nanites, etc)
    - Characters will be able to pilot their vehicles in any existing exterior map, as well as in all-new vehicle-centric maps and encounters
    - New content types, such as PVP modes, are being considered for vehicle-exclusive combat as well
    - Vehicles will offer some cosmetic customization, albeit to a lesser degree than the character costume creator

    Is using a Become Mummy or Become Vampire new Content for you ? For me not, and
    its also not "Be the hero you want", ist "be the hero they let you be".

    And now "be the Spaceship they let you be" for me is even more nonsense .. they can do that
    in STO .. but i don't want to be a Spaceship or a Car or whatever, i want to play my Hero.

    Also even if it maybe fun to kill mobs in Canada or MI while beeing a Romulean Warbird,
    i have played these zones full through now 32 times .. and it will still be the same zone.

    So : Nope .. no new content at all.

    Quit the negativity, some of us like vehicles and know (or at least trust) that cryptic will pull through and make them customizable (with custom colors and gear parts etc.) like they said they would.

    I wonder however how many players would prefer Vehicles over new Zones if Cryptic would
    ask us what we want them to do first.

    How long have you been around? What Belding says is what I would expect as well. They'll realize vehicles aren't as big a hit as they hope they'll be and then abandon further development on them to move on to the next great system they think will sell. Look at CO, its littered with half finished systems, Nemesis, Unity, Unity 2, Hideouts, PvP, Comic Series, APs, scaleable lairs, Q-store costumes, etc, etc, etc. Have there been any news on upcoming alerts? That seems like a perfect system for them to keep adding tiny chunks of development into.

    Top management fails to realize they need to FINISH something and KEEP ADDING TO IT for it to be successful.

    I'm not sure that comparing Alerts to the Vehicle system holds up. Can you play Alerts using your character as you built him/her ? The character's build ?

    Will you be able to play Vehicle exclusive content with your character's build ?


    I love the idea of the vehicles. I have /signed or supported suggestions for them for years now. But at no point in the past in any of the pro vehicle suggestion threads (at least that I saw) was the request made for content exclusive to vehicle users.

    There is no content exclusive to characters using Archery powers.
    None that is exclusive to Fire users.
    None that is exclusive to any other power concept in the game.
    None that is exclusive to become device users of any sort.

    I repeat, I love the idea of vehicles in game. I want them here. Beldin aside, most criticism of the system is not due to a lack of desire for them, but rather due to specific issues with the implementation.

    Not sure what went wrong on your side, but I tested gravitar and it was back to original, so it was fixed for me at least.

    I have not followed the missions in PTS either, but even if you do get to play the vehicle for the mission, be sure it will only last the mission. This is too much of a cash cow to be given free. I doubt it will even be one of those super rare drops from in-game. They will likely be sold in the C-store.

    I, personally would like to have a vehicle even if it is just a transform device. For concept purpose (yes I do have concept toons), some toons may just not have flight or teleport or darkspeed. The planes give that genuine feel of a hero on feet with a special transport. Of course I will certainly want much more customisation to shape and colours and designs so that we will not get fleets and fleets of similar planes soaring through the skies of MC. Not everyone want's a plane with a hawk nose afterall.

    The much faster speed also means travelling across the open map at a much faster pace. Think grond hunt. The range of the weapons though is a bit of a problem. They will be like sniper rifles firing and killing cosmics who cannot close the distance. Will be nice also if they can have some simple form of animations and graphics for the transformation to a plane. Some shimmering light effect as the toon dissolves while the plane materialises. Kind of like a star trek beam down. So it will be like the plane gets beamed down and the hero gets beamed into the plane.

    Because I have a feeling that no matter which char I go on I will not get any vehicles..and I have at least 7 lvl 40's...so I can see myself being unhappy when I open the chance bag or whatever it is :frown:

    Vehicle content is done by the powers folks, not the guys who make zones...totally different...Unless they have the same guy doing both, then thats just REALLY poor management.

    Sorry to report that;

    but, is that a bug that sneak just got removed from many characters and just comes with a buff that doesn't belong to them with some assasin techniques even if neighter buff and crime suits their initial concept?

    A good fix would be greatly appreciated. When I was on chat at an hour where almost no one were on-line, I mentioned this and got 4 private answers of not being fair, and having catches, and demolished character concept and heroes from Gold members and users of Archetypes. I know the PTB like to promote new archetypes, but Sneak was there since about 3 years minimum if not from start.

    So, it is kinda feels like a bugger when inventors can't become invisible, so scouts, so explorers, so invisible men, so ghosts, so multidimentional critters, so holographic, so other original hero concepts needing that can't be counted in with that characteristic simply because their buffs are too good on many levels, to turn to the dark side.

    (BTW thanks for giving a try on vehicles or vehicle devices)

    This is what is worrying for me, too.
    And considering that there's 3 vehicles, it's only a one-in-three chance of you actually getting the vehicle you want, if it's a completely random mechanic at play.
    So, to reiterate:
    Potentially random chance to even get a vehicle
    On top of-
    One-in-three chance it's the one you're gunning for.
    I really hope this isn't the case.

    That's what build tabs are for. If you used sneak purely to be a ghost or something in RP, you can just slot nightwarrior on an alternate build tab and simply switch between your normal passive and NW when you're "sneaking" for RP purposes. It's still only one power pick, and actually you're getting 3 powers for one, which i cannot possibly consider negative...

    Oh and most "heroes" use vehicles, maybe you should accept that fact.

    Wonderwoman uses a jet for Traveling .. but never for fighting .. the same is with
    the Fantastic Four or X-Men. Superman .. Spiderman .. the Hulk .. never saw them
    using a vehicle for fighting.

    Yeah .. i recently saw Wasp in Avengers Earths Mighties Heroes fighting with a Jet,
    but that was in for 1 minute .. normally the Avengers also use Jets for travel but
    not for fighting .. and that is the big difference .. Vehicles as TP .. no problem but
    not as a Hero replacement.

    Being able to move and travel around is the point.

    I personally want to see the tech advanced enough to allow us to use some of our own powers in combination to future vehicles. Swinging a heavy weapon or shooting pistols from atop a motorcycle.

    Urm let's use Batman, uses a variety of vehicles, Spiderman now uses a Bike, X-men's jet has missiles for fighting, Nightwing has a bike, Red Hood and the Outlaws have a ship which they fight in, Justice league have a vehicle armory, Superman has a ship (which albeit he hardly uses), Wonder Woman's jet does have fighting capabilites, Moon Knight has a jet which he fights in, Green Arrow has a variety of vehicles which he uses. These are just a few things that came to the top of my mind.

    Exce3pt in middle of Serpent Lantern type of missions where scouting is a GREAT idea... when sneaking in jungle or close to the walls.

    Somehow I don't see other tabs there for it... or remedy for arthritis in the 6th finger if it is the problem in middle of action.

    Nighthawk Costume still bugged: in particular, you can only wear the cape if you have a robotic arm. C'mon guys; you don't want the costume to be messed up when Nighthawk goes live...

    I'm not desperate enough to fork out $15 on a non-customizable jet when I stand a chance in a Grab Bag, on a daily I can repeat on ALL of my characters

    *sighs* I don't want to read more posts from page 3 to where this one will end up, but I'm going to step in and point out that we got a good amount of content in the form of Alerts and they also added the Nighthawk missions to the game. Not bringing up the devices or anything, but actual STUFF YOU CAN GO DO, and I'd like to see a 25-30+ zone though. At the moment, there's a little bit of a dip in what you can do...

    Also, being limited to Millennium City from 5-15 is going to get old quick since there are lifers still playing new toons. There's only so many times I can punch a purple mobster before I get tired of it. Maybe add something like a new starter zone? Perhaps Hudson City? It's in the actual game lore and you can have it be the darker place to start. In fact, if you can come up with enough "questionable morality" story arcs, it would make the dark hero types happy and make the long time players happy with a bunch of new things to do.

    Here it would be enough to simply revert Canada back to level 6 like it was before On-Alert.
    I already said that was a bad idea when they just came up with the idea before it went
    on PTS, and i still think that was an absolut horrible idea.
