My account just turned 1100 days old.
I know I'm not the only one who's loyal enough for their account to be turning that old, so I figured I'd try to beat everyone else to the punch.
Seriously, STO isn't even 1100 days old and it already has the 1100 day vet reward listed. Are there any plans for one on CO?
(EDIT)
Yeah I was misremembering that STO had 1100 day vet reward listed. Still, it's listing up to 1000 and nobody even has 1000 days on STO yet. At the time of this edit, I'm now 1101 days on CO and 947 on STO.
I have 8 days till my account turns 1100 actually. I don't expect anything but continuing it would be nice. Honestly would tell me the devs care, but I would still like to see more put towards new zones, endgame and new content in general, not the filler we've basically been getting.
Cryptic doesn't owe you guys any vet rewards guys.
You should be thankful that they keep the servers up and provide you content updates like they do.
As a free player I am not interested in Cryptic wasting too much time on vet stuff, make things for everyone (Free or VIP) to enjoy.
This is a video game not RL. LTS and GOLDS are better CUSTOMERS than silvers (hence why there is a reward system in the first place). Why you ask? Because they spend the same amounts of cash in z-store as everyone else plus the extra cash each month or the few hundred for the LTS. They spend more money they get better things. Its how entertainment companies work . You want the best seats in a cinema or a baseball game you pay extra cash. Same is with mmo's.
So yeah when a customer has kept a sub going for 1100 days they should get some extra nice stuff that free players wont ever get.
We should be thankful? Your kidding right? They aint doing us favors they are providing a leisure time service not doing brain surgery. We pay them cash and they keep the servers running its a win/win, no one should be thankful to anyone.
You seem annoyed by vet rewards that you dont have them, heres an idea try subbing.

I thought they had made it clear the program was ending at 1000.
I pretty much doubt it, since I didn't notice any ruckus about it on the forums.
Besides, the worst case scenario is giving dummy rewards like costume change tokens, increased Q refinement limit, discounts, etc. Hopefully, they are busy doing some event for the anniversary.

Actually Vet rewards are an advertised benefit of subscribing (monthly or LTS). A merchant does in fact owe its paying customers the advertised product for which they have paid.
Of course, last time I checked, the advertised LT benefits did not extend to 1100 days, so we will just have to wait and see.

At first I was going to be like so what? Do we need a reward?
And then I see STO already has one apparently...
Why is it STO always seems to get stuff before CO?

Most of the Vets who have come to 1100 days are most likely LTS, and if you bought your LTS 3 years ago? Your buy-in has already been spent and recouped. 200 paid for 13 months worth of a subscription and we've had roughly 20 months worth of a stipend. Access
Do we really deserve more? They're grateful for the initial hurdle to get money in the bank, but saying that we absolutely need to get something is really greedy.
I'd be happy for a fun 3 Year Anniversary event... and see more devs come back.

In short; yes. Some of us put that blind faith into this game, though I would prefer they start backing up their words now. We trusted Cryptic to actually rival and challenge the competition, and currently some of us feel our faith has not been recouped in the slightest. At best I look at the vet rewards, especially since it seems to be lifers who only benefit, as some would say, as yet another set of flowers from someone as an apology for not remembering that we were suppose to get more than what we have.
Do we deserve such things, yes and no. What I think we deserve as the loyalist of the loyal is actual progress and showing us something, not little bits of filler that me and many other players will be done with before the day is out.

Perhaps you feel that your buy in has been recouped, but Im not sure that you are in a position to speak for others on that matter.
Personally I am not a huge fan of veteran rewards, particularly those that involve costume pieces, but for some they are part of the reason for subscribing (monthly or LTS).

Right. I certainly can't speak for everyone. I feel as though my 200 was well spent, even with the long breaks between my bouts of playing. I'm just not a huge fan of the self-entitlement that comes in this territory. While it would be a nice gesture of them, it is something I don't expect of them.

I think we deserve more out of our game, but that's speaking as someone playing the game rather than someone who's been here for 1100 days. Making good on their promised content is something every player playing deserves.
Like it or not veteran rewards are part of the selling point of the game, especially after free to play came about.
I will say it effects Lifers differently. But we paid differently. Especially in cases like mine where I paid up front, sight unseen.
I payed for CO Life on the strength of CoH.
While I wasn't a fan of how the veteran system was executed in the details for CoH I liked the idea of rewarding the customer for their loyalty, especially where there are other games to play. It's not like the salad days of Everquest where for a brief time there was no other game quite like it*
So, as a feature I like it.
I also thing it might be a good thing to have some part of the team of Devs always thinking about some small bit of New content, usually a costume and a trinket That has to be served up to their long time customers.
*yes I am aware others were others but not.. the same.. not for a while.

This is exactly my point, and once again Championshewolf said it better than I every could. Instead of crying for little badges and fluff like entitled gamers, you guys should be providing feedback on how to make Champions better for ALL players. VIP and Free to Play alike.
Is there a place to nominate Championsshewolf to be the voice of the community?
In other MMOs I have played it was very effective to have one player speak directly to the devs for the commuinty as a whole, and Championshewolf seems like the perfect candidate.

We can do both you know.
And some of us really like the badges and fluff thank you very much. I've already stated why I think the Vet rewards are valid.
And you can probably check the posts by almost everyone here who disagrees with you, we all spend a lot of time on feed back about the game trying to make it better.

Just in case NO.

I think Lifers continue to support the game just by playing. A network, a player-base is important and the odds are a Lifer will be playing to some degree indefinitely. Even if it's off and on. By throwing them some bones here and there its kinda like enticing them back, giving them a reason to log n such. I think the continuous development of CO makes it a game always worth 'checking in' even if it becomes secondary or even tertiary in MMOs played.

Here are some simple questions for you.
If people didn't invest any money into the game, to give Cryptic/PWE a reason for continuing the business of running the game service called CO, what makes you think that you, as a free player, would be able to enjoy playing the game up to this day?
As for those who have continually invested their money in a gold subscription for 1000 days and counting, why wouldn't these players be entitled to some sort of loyalty rewards?
And since you're a free player who hasn't invested a single dollar into the game, what credibility do you have telling them what or what not they're entitled to?
...Is there a place to nominate Championsshewolf to be the voice of the community?

Why am I being nominated for this again? I don't want to be in any position where people look at me. I've been placed there in those positions constantly throughout all my MMO gaming life, from UO to WoW to City of Heroes, and rarely have I seen any of them ever accomplish any real changes other than so called focus group discussions that rarely amount to anything that I've personally ever seen.
I've been screaming at the walls for changes like I've stated in another post in the past and people are now just taking notice of this. I mean I've been saying the same thing about content now since Serpent Lantern introduction, and people saw my post about content as me now just speaking up. I screamed that Serpent Lantern wasn't endgame content or even new content but just filler back then to, that it offered nothing for teaming and provided nothing. I kept saying that difficulty slider wasn't the answer and didn't offer a real challenge to people wanting it then and we needed more zones and lairs and content, things built for teams.
But instead, I was either told I didn't know what I was talking about or that I had no evidence to back up my claim by the very people now saying they are shocked I am saying this "now" despite I've been screaming for this very thing for a very long time.
Sorry, but I don't want a position like that again, even if a lot of people supported it. Tired of speaking out against things I've watched for over 15 years cause the very thing that's happened now, destroy the fabric and integrity of the game I loved and have people tell me I don't know what I am talking about while a large portion of people rally behind the pseudo math of one person who was intent on just causing more harm in the end and abandoning ship as fast as possible.
It is kind of tiring to be told to provide evidence, provide it, then have it hand waved as either a fluke or something, despite people were just there, so again, I still wouldn't want it. I didn't seek a mod position out for that very reason as well.
I think the 1000 veteran reward is the perfect one to end this feature and focus on more important things that are aviable to all players.
I don't even care if it's an adventure pack that people have to pay for to get access to (or farm enough questionite to trade for Zen on the exchange), we NEED explorable content. You know, like something with a plot line or an open Zone we can go exploring in that's amazingly detailed?
I wonder if people who play Alerts for 10 hours a day every day start to look like drug addicts... Always looking for the next few minutes of high before getting right back in the queue to go again, eh? (I'm jk, but it does make you wonder no?)
This is exactly my point, and once again Championshewolf said it better than I every could. Instead of crying for little badges and fluff like entitled gamers, you guys should be providing feedback on how to make Champions better for ALL players. VIP and Free to Play alike.
Less QQ, more pew-pew.
The only person I see whining is you. Nepht flamed you, but that's just how Nepht rolls, and I wouldn't want her any other way (don't take that dirty minded, I'm talking about having unique characters that add to diversity and so)
At first I was going to be like so what? Do we need a reward?

That hardly could be called "crying", lol! I'm doubting that we even need a reward, and I am a LTS member, FYI.
Now if you had just left out the rest and just said "I feel we should focus on what benefits the entire game community with new content and stuff like that" I would have strongly agreed with you. But you didn't, you whined.
Is there a place to nominate Championsshewolf to be the voice of the community?
/facepalm
Um, no. Hell to the no in fact.
1. There is no "voice of the community". This is a free for all, not a dictatorship or a representative plutocracy.
2. You seem to have a very short memory or were simply not around when she was at her worst and exhibiting a holier-than-thou attitude. She's mellowed out a lot these days and I can admit I even like this new Silverspar to some extent. Yes, I like this new Silverspar, I said it. The same could be even be said for well-known PvP players like Xenomorph Drone, who was a prime example a play who was giving the PvP community a bad rep. But in time, he now seems much MUCH more interested in helping others and the well-being of the PvP community as a whole. Certainly not perfect, but I also like this new Xeno. My point here is that people change overtime, often for the better. People aren't static, thus it is unwise to judge a book by its cover. Chalk it up to life experiences and whatnot. This is why I feel hate is often so stupid, if you just get to establishing common ground and understanding between people (instead of us versus them and de-humanizing attitudes), you'll frequently find differences of opinion but no reason to have "them" as an "enemy". Break down the wall!
3. This community is incredibly diverse. People come from all around the world, thousands of miles seperating many of us from each other. Our own personal backgrounds and point of views on things are often very varied. We also have many people who have been around for over a year (which is a long time in game communities) and people who are new. We have people who really know their stuff and research, and others who are looking just for casual fun. People who prefer RP, PvP, and/or PvE. People who are here because of the PnP lore this game was started on. People who are here because they came over from City of Heroes. And so on... This diversity is a GOOD thing!!! We need people like Nepht, Shev, FlyingFinn, aylodis, Brou, Vizzone, etc. Why? Because they make the community dynamic. Even if it's just for people to go "shut up Ryder", it's something that make the community a community.
4. Cryptic already employs a "community representative" developer, a paid employee. I believe that is StormShade, and he has come under fire for negligent communication with regards to several issues in the community: chat mute/ban issue, region block/ban issue, etc. TrailTurtle has tried to help out too it seems, but even then there's a lot of unanswered questions (just look at the last Ask Cryptic) You need a thick skin an a penchant for diplomacy if you want to be leading a community such at this as a time when many of the customers are frustrated with the apparent lack of progress on the issues that matter most and misallocation of developer resources to address those issues (and lack of growth). Not because the customers don't care, but they are frustrated frequently because they do care and don't have much they can do to correct the situation.
In other MMOs I have played it was very effective to have one player speak directly to the devs for the commuinty as a whole, and Championshewolf seems like the perfect candidate.
I have been in communities where that has happened.
It's disasterous.
It inevitably results in favoritism, or at least percieved favoritism, and disgusting levels of people sucking-up to those who have inner-circle connections. This is even with the BEST intentions. I ran an anti-cheat community and then eventually had people IN MY ORGANIZATION who started cheating. Hurt even more because they were a trusted friend, and their actions shamed the rest of the organization. In another community we had a direct line to the developers, but then that turned into drama games about who had the more suggestions to improve the game and spent more time talking.
The only time such heiarchry truly works is when it's like the military or an emergency seen response. Everybody has well-defined roles, duties, and responsibilites. Everybody knows the consequences of underperforming are and their limits. You also have no freedom to choose. If your commanding officer gives you an order, you don't debate it, you do the f-ing order (unless it's somehow amoral, then you go up the chain of command).
Game communities ARE not ideal of a rigid heiarchy, people are too varied and there's not a fixed commitment, people are not enlisted to play Champions Online and risk court marshal if they don't. This is casual. This GAME is for FUN, not work.
Bad idea. Sorry, no.
The Spartans would be disappointed in you. They're out there dying to protect you from the Covenant and the Flood and you're just giving up on freedom? Tsk tsk...

In what mmo's have 1 single person from player community speaking directly to the devs???? Are devs in those games unable to read the feedback whole player community gives? I thought the 1 person is working for Cryptic and gathers the player feedback. But hey, Cryptic/PWE would save a few pennies to get a volunteer to do that..
And why there's allways someone pulling the 'Entitled Card' when the talk is about Veteran Rewards? Is that someone unable to understand what the rewards are for? Or just someone who doesn't have them so noone else should have? I just wish Cryptic would put the rewards in the Z-store to shut the heck up everyone who thinks noone should be entitled.
And ps. i wont work for free.

As an original lifer of this game I would be happy if they put a pause on vet rewards if it meant getting some of the future ideas made. SG bases, new zone(s), new powers, bug fixes, more hideout skins, costume bugs, all of those I would love to see before more vet rewards.
After those things are done then play catch up and take up development time away from the game.
For 1100 days they maybe start to give CO players the 100 day STO rewards, since CO
will be turned into a Space Opera with the vehicles, and after a while will be assimilated
completly into STO

Course this is just my opinion.
I don't think vet rewards really takes too much of their time but I have to say that they should be redesigned to mimic a bit what CoH does. Instead of getting directly the rewards we should get vet reward points. Those points would be the currency to buy any vet reward. Silvers(and avids gold trying to catch up) should be able to get them either directly or as a bonus from C-store purchases.
The advantage of this:
1. Cryptic would get some income from vet rewards from silvers and golds that try to catch up.
2. People won't have to wait effectively for that many days for specific set they really want.
3. It would encourage better vet rewards since they will be profitable for Cryptic.
Drawbacks:
1. Decreased value on subscription and less incentive to keep subscribe indefinetely.
Imho, the advantages outweight the drawbacks but I think it is a matter of perspective.

That's not a bad point but I think the time the Dev's put into the Vet rewards is not so large and well worth it.
Looking at some of the things on that list, they clearly aren't sucking -that- much work into the rewards.
Titles, Retcon tokens, Exp boosts, Costume and Character slots, Additional Shared Hideout Bank Slots, Tailor Discount, Costume change tokens are easy and hardly work intensive.
Items such as the Core of Might and the Heroic Resonance are just retooled and re-iconed items that existed in game or came to exist in game at the same time.
Some time intensive things like Costumes are already in game [Hammer Bracers, Epic Revelation Armor], re-skinned or slightly tweaked existing items [Wizard/Druid Robes, Spartan Lion Armor, Glow Tights].
Much of these can be or have been added to in game drops or in the C-store. Neither of which diminishes their value as Vet rewards much.
One labor intensive item didn't generate the excitement it should have and I don't think we'll see its like again [Club Caprice VIP Room]
The other big items were the The Avian Warrior set and Millennium flight, I'd actually be a bit mad if they doesn't end up in the C store sooner or later. So this too should just end up being early work for the C... err.. Z-store.
It doesn't take much to make Vets happy and feel valued. My personal favorites are the small quality of life tweaks like the Heroic Res and various bonus slots, exp and discounts at the tailor.
I do love the costumes and expect them to be previews of things all players eventually get access to via the Z-store. Because this means I got something free and/or I got it early but I don't have to worry that others will not have access to it [odd as it sounds I think that's for the best]

Yeah, a permanent, toggleable version of THAT!
Also, an infinite supply of snowballs!
Those are good ideas. A party ball with infinite uses would be awesome too.

3. We already can get all our stars back via the VIP Lounge and get the VIP Lounge teleporter, so how about an MC or MC PH teleporter device?
4. How about Defender's chest or Dr. Destroyer's helmet costume pieces?
5. I don't know how feasible this would be, but does anyone remember that Argent hunting lodge you fight Steel Commando in? What if we all got that as an additional hideout - it could easily be adjusted to have all the regular hideout amenities, and we could have the option of returning to where we came from or exiting to Monster island, similar to how the penthouse hideout can take you to MC. It'd obviously have to check if you're >= level 30 to go to MI.

Yeah I was misremembering that STO had 1100 day vet reward listed. Still, it's listing up to 1000 and nobody even has 1000 days on STO yet. At the time of this edit, I'm now 1101 days on CO and 947 on STO.
I like these ideas especially the Argent hunting lodge.
I have 8 days till my account turns 1100 actually. I don't expect anything but continuing it would be nice. Honestly would tell me the devs care, but I would still like to see more put towards new zones, endgame and new content in general, not the filler we've basically been getting.
This. All of it. I honestly don't care about vet rewards. This game has basically been 3 years of the same thing with a little bit of salt (AP's), pepper (CS's) and lime (Alerts) added for flavoring. You can only season the meat so much before you have to add the rest of the meal.

Where does STO have 1100 days listed, by the way? I thought I had read they were stopping at 1000.

I pretty much doubt it, since I didn't notice any ruckus about it on the forums.
Besides, the worst case scenario is giving dummy rewards like costume change tokens, increased Q refinement limit, discounts, etc. Hopefully, they are busy doing some event for the anniversary.
I've heard a number of folks say this, but I have yet to find the post in which a dev said this in either the CO or STO forums...
Anyone have a linky?

Actually Vet rewards are an advertised benefit of subscribing (monthly or LTS). A merchant does in fact owe its paying customers the advertised product for which they have paid.
Of course, last time I checked, the advertised LT benefits did not extend to 1100 days, so we will just have to wait and see.

'Caine, miss you bud. Fly high.

So all the little extra bits are welcome.

I rest my case.

Basically, yes.
Less QQ, more pew-pew.
The only person I see whining is you. Nepht flamed you, but that's just how Nepht rolls, and I wouldn't want her any other way (don't take that dirty minded, I'm talking about having unique characters that add to diversity and so)
Also, I said this myself:
That hardly could be called "crying", lol! I'm doubting that we even need a reward, and I am a LTS member, FYI.
Now if you had just left out the rest and just said "I feel we should focus on what benefits the entire game community with new content and stuff like that" I would have strongly agreed with you. But you didn't, you whined.
/facepalm
Tsk tsk...

After those things are done then play catch up and take up development time away from the game.
Course this is just my opinion.

completly into STO
