hold on why a comapny from korea as far as I know is banning far eastern countries including the one its from
isn't that a bad business decision?
or is the threat from hacked accounts greater from this region and rather than invest in a good security system they choose to bann everyone, which in the scheme of thins will not stop hacking accounts...

Perfect World is a Chinese company. Perfect World Entertainment, the company that purchased Cryptic Studios, is based here in the US - in fact, not far from Cryptic. Traditionally, Perfect World has handled licensing in their core region, the Far East, with PWE handling licenses in the rest of the world.

However, Champions Online and Star Trek Online, Cryptic's products, were already licensed worldwide - a situation PW was not set up to deal with. So far, the HQ honchos have handled this by not handling it, by acting as if CO were, legally speaking, exactly the same as any other product they handle. Since CO isn't licensed through PW's headquarters, that means that effectively, there is no access for the game in PW's region.

We need to keep complaining about this, because the people who need to be impressed with our perseveration are here in the States. However, they can't deal with the Corporate Overlords the same way, because the sociological expectations are quite different. In the West, we have a saying about those who speak up - "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." In Japan, there's a different proverb about those who speak up - "The nail that sticks up is the one that gets hammered down." PWE and Cryptic have to use a certain degree of circumspection in dealing with PW, which may have something to do with the lack of communication on this matter...

I did not say it was NOT his responsibility. I said he surely had more responsibilities than that alone.
If he doesn't, then I'm looking for a job, just saying.
    Which was in essence, saying

Were there any specific reason for that personal attack other than that your opinion differs from mine?

I've learned that voicing opinions in seriousness about someone else and how they should have handled things (or "how I would have done it") without ALL of the facts, preferably including some days shadowing them on their job, or better yet, even DOING their job for a couple of weeks, is a really great way to make myself look like an ****.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that anyone else who might be doing that (or who I may perceive to be doing that), whether in this thread or elsewhere, is an ****. I'm just saying why I have taken steps to try to keep myself from doing so. There's a reason why there are sayings about things like "walking a mile in [somebody's] shoes" and such.

Be upset about the way it's being handled. Voice your opinion. Keep voicing it, let the company log the complaints and let their employees (probably like Stormshade) bring some screens or printouts to meetings, so the issue stays afloat. But ragging on that employee or those employees, especially if you literally do not know their exact day-to-day responsibilities inside and out, does exactly one thing, and nothing more.

As always, it's possible that I'm writing out of turn. Perhaps people who are calling for Stormshade's head or whatever else have, among their number, his predecessor. Who, most assuredly, moved on to bigger and better things, rather than, say, having been fired for their sanctimony. In which case, I apologise to that person or persons for prickling at them as members of a group, even while I stand by my statements in either case, as they are already covered by them.

QFT. Logic?! Ty for stating this clearly for people, Jonsillis.

If we're talking about the duties of the CM (Community Manager), then that's EXACTLY one of his responsibilities

QFT, and they can't just shirk responsibility because being "too busy", leadership means you've got BOTH power and responsibility.

From having been on the other side of the fence (which I bet few of you truly have), the sucky part of a community manager job like that is that sometimes they may not actually have the time they need to get the job done proper, but the responsibility is still there. Ironically you can frequently "make the time" if you're clever and create a well-organized system to facilitate your work.

The continual lack of communication & resolution evidenced by the community management leadership however typically (not always, but more often than not) shows a lack of organization and a culture of "doing the minimum" laziness. Again, you often can't get everything you wanted to get done on a work day. It's very frustrating for sure, and I'm pleased to see TrailTurtle hasn't given up.

But... if your job is experiencing backlog and customers are getting pissed, it's time for the system you're using and the work ethic culture in your environment (includes personal perceptions) to change, immediately! Seek win-win solutions and think outside the box. Real leaders who are creative and create change that makes people happy and makes money get promoted. People who just punch the time clock and do the minimum don't deserve promotion.

Jon is right on this one. Myself I am Dutch person born in Japan and having worked there let me share some translations of some Japanese "motivational signs".

Good workers do as they are told.

The company knows best do not question the company.

My personal fave : People who are late for work bring dishonor upon their ancestors .

Though will have to say when it comes to customer support would have to say if Champions Online was based in Japan Stormshade would HAVE to answer ALL our questions :D ( yeah yeah SOE customer support sucks but they are based in the US ..also shut up)
