Imbue Bug / Heal Exploit

nesn00000nesn00000 Posts: 151 Arc User
Imbue does not cancel when used with self heals, I.E Conviction. When used in conjunction with bubbles one can activate imbue and crit heal indefinitely and never take any damage.

Enjoy

Imbue is breaking stuff again is it? Glorious...

(you think Cryptic QA people would have learned by now to be careful with making sure Imbue was debugged, i.e.: pseudo-pets)

I vote we just remove Imbue. It causes more headaches than it's worth.

While I get it that you're making the same reference to the EPIC FAIL Cryptic did last time with Imbue-empowered pseduo-pets (i.e. sigils), you REALLY need to make it clear this would be the worst possible decision.

    Hopefully they've learned from history.

    Agreed to infinity!!!

This would be beyond stupid to do.

A Cryptic dev has declared explicitly on his semi-secret in-game chat channel before (last spring, back in mid-March) that Imbue would "never" be removed. So that's that really, for better or worse.

Nor does it have to, I don't see that you have to remove it at all, unless you're truly incompetent to be able to fix it properly.

I would certainly hope & expect PAID/PROFESSIONAL game programmers would indeed take the time to do the job professionally. When amature programmers show up what's what to a professional programmer, it's got to be like to the boss: "wait why am I paying you a salary again?" It makes me really angry, because there are many young professionals out there who would almost kill to get that job! There's 160 employees in the building, what are they doing?! It's a dream job, you make fun for people all around the world! The kind of thing where when your customers get off their jobs and want to destress, they choose to play YOUR creation! Total lack of respect for yourself, your creation, and other members of the dev team.

Ugh! Sorry for venting here, but this really boils my blood.

It's the same as firefighters who start caring more about doing the minimum, instead of saving lives

The best change they made with Imbue was in fixing it so that it couldn't be used to empower sigils anymore and that it gives critical severity based on CON or PRE (originally it was just CON)

Since we're voting to remove imbue, maybe also tack on a proposal to add back critical hits on sigils, powers like lightning ball, gas arrow, and others? Imbue seemed like the only thing that was making a mess of these powers.

Alright so let's brainstorm the ideal solution here. Let's get logical on this -- prove that a small group of people can identify a problem and come up with a prototype solution, one that be easily transitioned from concept to implemented fix. Maybe help Cryptic out a little if they're really sooo short-staffed. Everbody wins (provided Cryptic doesn't take 3 months to implement it...)

Xeno has listed the problem's signs. It sounds like to me the Imbue on-next-shot buff (which is a great buff btw) simply isn't being consumed like it should, a bug.

    1. What would you all say is the most professional way to fix this bug?

    2. What other unintended side-effects should be checked for? What else might break accidentally?

    Just to be clear:
Beldin's sarcastic "suggestion" is the WORST possible solution. Talking about just removing Imbue is no good, assume it will be staying around. And keep in mind these types of loopholes are nearly impossible to forsee from the developer's side, so it's not like they are doing it intentionally, more like they are rushing through stuff and not putting ample time & effort into Quality Assurance checks at the various stages of the development cycle.

    1. Turn imbue into a click buff that increases healing potential by x amount for 10 seconds.
    2. Turn imbue into a click buff that increases your crit/crit severity for x amount for 10 seconds (increase recharge on imbue).
    3. Remove imbue.

Actually knowing your build you could benefit from it... You know about using imbue with resurgence right? It's pretty sweet if you've got the CON or PRE. Also ties back into your regeneration passive that you use.

But yeah, Imbue causes a lot of problems, and it's vastly superior to Toxic Nanites or Sonic Device (the only other two on-next-hit powers I can think of off the top of my head, pretty sure they're the only other option)

    FYI for the new people:
Imbue was originally designed with charged Rebuke and Vengance blasts in mind, to give celestials more damage or a way to turbo-charge the next heal. Imbue IS very useful on dedicated heal builds. Instead though, it's primarily become known as the must-have power for one-shotting perfection (typically used to empower the next hit for sniper rifle, force cascade, or defile). And Imbue has certainly long been a driving factor for many builds to stat in CON, which raises the price of CON stuff on the AH (auction house) trading market.

I'm not convinced outright removal is necessary, we've had enough disasterous nerfs in this game. But does this loophole need to get fixed in a professional manner? Without a doubt, yes!

    I don't think so Tim.

Forms / Might nerf .. because of Primal Majesty Builds ..
Ego Storm nerf because of PvP complaints ..

And the way the thread here is titled i just cried to a nerf like the Pseudo Pet nerf.

What about a decent title just like : Conviction doesn't consume Imbue ?

I just in the last months have get used to imbue as Alpha Strike.

So what is the problem really if somebody can spam imbued conviction the whole time ?
I mean .. in that time he can't do any damage at all, and conviction is a self heal not
that he can play a healer with that.

Yes there is - 100% crit vs anything not 100% ;)

It does need fixing, just like sooooo many other powers......

Why is it we can't just have powers work as intended, instead I see people grabbing pitchforks.

But then again, I just wish things were actually fixed when they were said to be fixed.

I dont fault players for finding exploits.. And Also "Thank you Xeno" on that count.

That being said.. I DO fault those responsible for the rules of our world our game-master has left and the players have begun to exercise practices that should be game-mastered. come on devs.. do you even PLAY Champions Online?

Imbue has caused more problems since it's inception than pretty much any other power. At this point it is a menace power.

It pretty much goes without saying that if it's nerfed, it'll be badly enough that everyone will retcon out of using the abilities entirely.

    That's why a nerf-bat is a nerf-bat. It's not a nerf-pillow.Thinking they'll balance a nerf correctly is wishful thinking.

    Please no removing powers....
they just need to fix it so it behaves the same as it does with attacks.
    That is all.

no need to go nerfing heals or removing x power.
