I'm guessing that whatever code they put in to get Hi-Pan to drop his costume bits into the inventory broke the 'Vet Rewards get claimed on the character but do not drop into inventory' bit.
and thus after waiting and waiting for the wizard robes to unlock, now they're all over the AH. Sigh. Since I don't see anything later in the Vet rewards table than the Epic Revalation Armor, I'm going to guess the later rewards like the Avian gear are bound.

*looks*
It doesn't drop with a new character (the Avian stuff).
Yeah, made a new toon last night to check it out and can confirm what the OP reported. I'm a 1000+ day Vet and the only three unbound pieces are indeed the Hammers, Wizard Robe, and Revelation Armor...

If they're bound, you can probably just destroy them...
If they're sellable, yeah, big problem there...
Edit: lol, first time I've ever been ninja'd by the OP!

Laws yes!
In the game, I'm @Knickknacks.
No idea. All 3 1000 day rewards do that, and have since they were added.
All you can do is discard them.
Fix one thing, break another.
