The Tiny AT and Alerts Rant

klittyklitty Posts: 1,540 Arc User
Hello!!

I have a rant... About people who are using ATs like The Mind, The Celestial and The Grimoire and not healing at all inside the Alerts!!

Why are you guys picking up a Support AT like those, spam very low damage powers and not healing at all??

It drives me nuts!!

<Ok, yes, the grimoire is not very healing like, but the other two ATs are healing-based powers!!

This is not about FreeForms who are in support role, I don't expect healing from them.>

Agreed if you see the infamous Radiant called DEATH HEAL leave the alert ...I know I say dont do that but if that ONE NUB is in an alert with you you will all fail so badly due to the fact the nub somehow agro's EVERYTHING then spends the whole alert running away like kids for Scooby Doo and everything seems to chase him :/

It's possible the minds or grimoires aren't high enough level to have heals yet. Minds don't get a healing power until 11 and grimoires until 17, according to the wiki.

But they get other attacks. The experience I've had is that some players go into alerts and just basically toggle on their EB *and that's it*. Even at level 1, these ATs have another attack, and since they get their passive at 8, which is an Aura that benefits the team, at least if they stay near everyone else, they can help a little. In some cases, these people seem to intentionally get themselves killed, thus speeding up alerts like recruiting drives...

Speaking of the mind AT and its "questionable" passive,is said passive even beneficial to the team and to the healer itself.I've heard from alot of people it was nerfed,it that still the case?

I would say the most common reason you don't see Grimoires and Minds doing any healing is that they are simply too low level.

Most Smash Alerts I do have 1-2 toons under level 15.

BTW: Aura of Primal Majesty, though less powerful than before, is still very, very good for a team.

Im pretty forgiving in Smash alerts. I know they have been claimed as xp farming grounds. So Im well aware of what madness im going to run into when I opt to join the que.

But I just ran into a level 8 radiant joining Hi-pan alerts. Several times in fact. Seriously. what exactly are you contributing to the group at that point?

If he was healing, it was so minor as to be insignificant. I know I was doing more to keep the group alive then he was and that was as a FF DPS running shadow form as a passive and just happens to have EH on hand, mostly for self heals.

I honestly believe that the Hi-Pan Alert should've been level restricted. I see no way of anyone without adequate powers and heals surviving that.

This is not any harder than other alerts, once you are aware of the mechanic at the last fight. Having said that, I still believe that all of the alerts should be level gated at about 10 or 11 as a bare minimum, or 15 so all participants have their three super stats and a good range of abilities.

Raising the level for entry might even cut back the amount of leeching (just a gut feeling there).

I also think that Nemesis alerts should require participants to have a Nemesis. I am sick to death of trying to beat up Stitches, Backstab, Lilith, Deathmetal and his pals over and over again, only to have it fail because some twit doesn't know / care about blocking.

    The Mind (Support)
    Aura of Radiant Protection:

The self portion of this passive has been reduced by 20% while in Support.
The ally portion of this passive has been increased by 50% while in Support.

So, a Mind's passive can increase the team's resistance more than before On Alert. Since the Mind runs only in Support, the lower benefit from its passive was a kick in the teeth.

    The Grimoire (Hybrid)
    Aura of Primal Majesty:
The self portion of this passive has been reduced by 20% while in Hybrid.
The ally portion of this passive has been reduced by 40% while in Hybrid.

So, a Grimoire's passive can still help the team, but not as much as before On Alert.

So they are deliberately causing failure?
    Trolls?
    Griefers?
    Or... *conspiratorial whisper*... sockpuppets?...

A rival company hiring people to wreck alerts and harm champions online? I'd dismiss such things before i was a mod on a big war of the worlds forum some years back and saw the sockpuppeting and astroturfing that went on between rival film companies fighting to make competing films and fighting to make their rivals unpopular.

Not saying this is so, i have no evidence to support it as a conclusion but it is a possibility.

Why else other than trolling/griefing would people be deliberately sabotaging alerts?

Speaking of the Grimoire, its healing capability is rather low unless you spec for it with gear, and as stated earlier you get heals at higher levels. Additionally the changes in AoPM together with its Hybrid role do not bode well for its usefulness in combat as a healer, it's much better off as dPS. And debuff when they finally get Skarn's bane and Sigils of Ebon Weakness.

The Mind at least runs in Support so the Aura contributes a lot. Otherwise the powers are so bad that healing and debuffing are the only meaningful things to do.

The Radiant.... I have no experience playing with it... but I see PLENTY of default costume Radiants that do not bother changing it (ok the default one is pretty, but come on!) and probably did not even read the powers description... for these players I strongly suspect that they do not even know that they can heal with their attacks!

...or even worse: did you ever run into one low-level who "dps-es" during the fight and heals you AFTER the enemy is dead? gee thanks! (it happened several times).

More likely they click to join an alert then go do something else. They return once in a while and if they're at an alert where the team won, they collect the reward and switch to another account or whatever else they were doing. Basically, they're "semi-afk" and really not interested in actually playing the game - only leveling up character after character and/or completing as many dailies as possible for the Questionite.

In smash alerts i rather have them do some damage than casting bubbles on me that are
down in 2 seconds, while i have no problems to heal me with BCR, Devour Essence or Drones.

Else .. one thing to took in mind is that the Mind and Radiant are FREE ATs, so maybe
some people just play them because they already have tried all other free ATs, and
just want to play something different without spending money.

If your ranting about AT healers not healing, take a look at the mind,it doesnt get a heal til 11,they might be under that lvl,but radiants have a heal at lvl 2,so if they dont heal then you can yell at them for not doing their job but also take into consideration that they may be new to the whole MMO role thing and need to be taught-Healers heal teammates, tanks get out there and soak up damage for the team,DPSers deal it out,and well hybrids can be somewhat in the middle.

I know you didn't include it, but how does the Inventor support AT figure into this equasion?

I ask because I have an inventor toon who occasionally takes grief from people who think I'm supposed to bail them out when they do something stupid and they see my toon has that cross symbol plus support drones so I MUST be a healer toon (yes watching Kid Aggro grab everything in the room and come running back to stand next to me has grown tiresome).

Add in that I run with a Ragged Proletariat's Armband, Omega-Destroid Stomp, Portable Robotic Factory and Lemurian Amulet of the Predator (except for the Stomp, all summon items that can no longer be obtained in the game) and HAVE to run my EB constantly to shrink their cooldown timers to useful levels and you can see why these alert kiddies are freaking out when I ignore their cries of "HEAL!".

When I have to monitor and drop Bionic Shielding on someone, I cannot summon my pets or bomb away with my Orbital Cannon. :frown: What's the best way to get that across to less-experienced players?

Start the alert by quickly typing, "I'm not a healer, just support."

Gating the alerts to level 11 or 15 seems like the best solution to me. For those of us with alt-itis, it means that yes, we'll have to play a few West Side missions to level up a new toon.
The benefit gained by preventing really low level toons from alerts would be worth it.

They should make a separate role, since the inventor is primarily support and not heal, and mind and radiant are, make mind and radiants the healer role and make inventor a support role.

I advise the noobs who play those roles to be forced to play through the tutorial again, and should not be able to get in alerts unless their lv 20+.

I was really pissed at the Grimoire in my Grab Alert team. I was tanking like hell and he barely heals me and he doesn't effing attack! Not even the boss or mobs.

I have a healer. A Radiant named, "Deus". I heal whenever one of my teammates takes damage which sometimes gets me killed in the process. Especially when lag hits me like a b***.

Actually, my Inventor winds up doing a lot of healing, because I always have my Support Drones firing healing beams at me and my allies (increases my survivability by a truly astonishing amount). Sure, it doesn't look as cool as having them become turreted weapons, but I've always preferred staying alive to looking cool anyway...

I left the Inventor out of my rant because it's a Gold AT, so is less common to see a Froob using it, takes the Healing Drones at level 25, and is mostly support instead of a healing AT.

Besides, most of the Inventors/FF with Gadgets I've met are really cool people <3
