Rank 8 and 9 mods too inefficient

They just don't offer enough value for the effort and / or money to be worthwhile. Rank 7 armor and enhancement mods give a decent 5-point bump up fom rank 6, but 8 and 9 only offer a 2-point increase each. Rank 9 takes 25 rank 7s to create...that's 25 times the already significant effort of getting a single 7...but offers less than half the benefit.

Considering how difficult these are to obtain, they should offer at least the same 5-point increase as a 7, probably more. If they offered 7 and 10 points respectively, they'd be very tempting and something worth working toward or even buying catalysts to rank up now and then.

It really depends on how that "2-point" edge plays out between two high-level playing builds in a PvP setting. I'm thinking that Rank 7 is really the goalline we should strive for and 8 & 9 are basically investments into the specialization of one's playstyle.

I think rank 7 is the benchmark goal, but rank 8 and 9 are like the epic loot of other games. It's a huge investment and effort, but there's a great payoff. Except here there's no payoff.

At the end of the day it comes down to business. Providing a product with perceived value that's commensurate with its cost. Right now I wouldn't pay money for it or even grind for it, which means I'm playing less, filling out fewer surveys and purchasing less Zen, which means lost revenue opportunities.

I believe the system was designed with a raised level cap in mind.

Rank 9 mods only seem absurdly difficult because the highest dropped rank is 6.

A higher level zone would open the possibility for Rank 7 and 8 mods to drop. Making rank 9 far more attainable.

In addition another level to crafting boosting total crafting from 400 to 500 would go a long way to making the pitiful fuse success chance, far less pitiful.

I have my personal doubts if this is ever going to happen. But it does seem as if the whole system was made to work at a higher level. After all, that was the whole reason they gave to do the changes in the first place.

I made a table long ago to showcase the mods and their ranks (at level 40 only) and I was going to expand it to show every 10th level but I didn't have the time and never released it..but here it is

As you can see, I didn't include growth mod (Who the hell uses it anyway?) and the cost to get the upper levels isn't worth the amount that they give (except if you reached the end the only way to go 'forward' is to nickle and dime your way to all rank 9s)

Honestly they removed the only good thing (aside from questionite secondaries) from the questionite store during the second patch of On Alert!...(the 10 for 55k questionite rank 6 mods got 'nerfed' to give only 1..for 55k...ew..)

There's no question that anything above R7 is effectively useless. Heck, I can barely notice a difference from going from lvl 38 greens with R3 mods, to a fully decked out lvl 40 purples with rank 5 mods across the board. But for whatever reason im still farming for better stuff.

Consider the dollar cost to purchase the Zen required to pick up one Rank 8 and one Rank 9 upgrade catalyst. You're looking at spending about $50. $50 for a 4-point boost to one stat. If you wanted to deck your hero out entirely in Rank 9 mods, you'd have to spend $300, and all you'd have to show for it are 24 additional points and everlasting shame.

There is no payoff - but there's no reason to go beyond 7 if bothering to go that far at all.

I don't even see a reason to go beyond R5, and i must say i'm totally happy with that
because i prefer to have 30+ good equipped characters than grind like hell just to
have one single character with great gear and all other with crap.

After all the doomsaying before on-alert and the numbers of hours that were posted
how long we have to grind now for good gear, i'm really happy with how it turned out
    in the end

Purple gear with Rank 5 mods is fine, but it's not a challenge to achieve. I'm fine with that for most of my characters, but with one or two I'm willing to grind for more...assuming the payoff is worth the effort.

So yeah, you don't need to go past Rank 5 to be damned effective, but I wouldn't say there's no reason to go further, even if that reason is just to see how far you can push a character's upper limits. For me at least.

These mods are in place with the level cap increase in mind.

If i didn't had soo much characters is would maybe go for R7 .. but don't equip R6

Yeah, that's part of my position as well: it's hard enough to get one Rank 9 mod, let alone deck out one character fully. Multiple characters is almost impossible. It's not like we'd be overrun with grossly overpowered builds if these mods had bonuses that were worth the investment.
