Are you a 90's kid? Do you love everything 90's, from Image Comics to Power Ranger? Do you want to get nostalgic and some good laughs? Then this is the right address for you!
This is EXtreme Force!
(a branch of the Rangers Unlimited roleplay SG)
The base idea was a little experiment: What would the Migthy Morphin Power Rangers have looked like if they had been created by Image Comics, as typical 90's comic heroes? Because if there was one superteam in the 90's that averted all things Dark Age, it was them.
And now I'm trying to create a group that has fun parodying everything 90's while roleplaying a team of antiheroic Power Rangers. ^^
The Basics:
There is a selection of premade characters, suiting all archetypes of Dark Age comics as well as CO gameplay, while every one of them is a parody of a character from the early Power Rangers (Mighty Morphin season 1-3).
Please notice that we are not trying to do clone RP. While I find it acceptable, it is still unsafe. So I made sure that our characters do have neither the name, nor the appearance, nor the same backstory as the original Rangers they are based on. We will be using their "commando" codenames for the characters, not their civilian or Ranger names.
Modifications to the characters are allowed, as long as they don't change things like the main color or powers. And I will gladly help you figuring out a build that makes them both funktional and thematic.
And most of all; knowledge of Power Rangers, 90's antiheroes and other 90s tropes are required for you to make the most of the this RP!
[Additional Note:] If you passionatelly hate all kinds of clones, this is not a SG for you. Even though the EXtreme Force is made up of parodies (alternate universe versions, to be exactly) of certain Rangers, there are people in Rangers Unlimited who RP as canon Rangers. And I don't want any flame wars.
The Plot:
The rapid increase of super-crime has forced the US government to take measures. Extreme measures. Recruiting only the most ruthless and radical fighters for justice; special agents, war veterans and convicted vigilantes, a secret strikeforce was founded. In order to take out any superpowered thread imaginable, they are not only equiped with ultramodern weapons, armor and vehicles, but also physically enhanced by the EX Super Serum, which made every single one of them stronger and tougher than a hundered ordinary soldiers. With firepower, with superpower and without resentment, they figth to eliminate all superpowered enemies of freedom and justice.
They are the EXtreme Force! Solving problems, with extreme force!

The Boss (Equivalent to Zordon) *NPC*
The founder and leader of EXtreme Force. He is a very secretive and somewhat paranoid government representive who never reveals his identity or even his face to the team. Instead, he communicates through a hologram in form of a floating head. He gives orders and (rarely) information to the team through Agent Redd and Trythorn.
Agent Redd (Jason Lee Scott)
Attachment not found.
A battle-hardened special agent, master of karate, swords and many kinds of firearms, as well as the first soldier to be enhanced by the EX Serum. This Rambo-esque master of war has now become the field commander of the EXtreme Force. His motivation: To destroy the enemy, for great justice!
Quote: "Justice is red, like blood. There will be bloodshed. There will be justice!"
Parodies: J.I. Joe and the likes. And even more so; Chuck Norris - Karate Kommando. Do you really think an American super soldier would do anything other than a lot of killing? He also has some traits of Judge Dread.
Recommended Build: A Single Blade/Munitions mix, focused on dodge and damage. He is sopposed to be the "jack" of the team; able to do a bit of anything.
Alternative Build: The Soldier, The Specialist or The Blade.
Trythorn (Dr. Bill Carson)
Attachment not found.
The second in command and the scientific genius behind the EX Super Serum that turns decent fighters into superhumans, as well as the whole equipment of the EXtreme Force. But as great as his mind is, as underdeveloped are his social skills. He is a textbook deadpan snarker, sarcastic and cynical. He takes few things seriously, except for science and the fight against evil, and rarely has a friendly word for anyone. But he particulary dislikes Mammoth, Arrow Angel, Niteblade (unlicensed vigilantes), Saber (a former assassin for hire) and Dragoon (a dirty hippie and potential eco terrorist), viewing them as criminal scum. He is not on good terms with Burst (an adult child who gets to handle explosives!) either. But as EXtreme Force and their fight agains evil is serious business for him, he still works with his teammates as good as he can and puts his personal resentments aside - most of the time.
Quote: "I'm a professional. You can tell by the way I'm scowling."
Parodies: The over-the-top grimdarkness of 90's antiheroes. And all the crazy super science, to a lesser extent.
Recommended Build: Gadgeteering, themed on rayguns, but should also have Support Drones, Munibots and Resurrection Serum. He is supposed to be the team's supporter in battle.
Alternative Build: The Inventor.
Arrow Angel (Kimberly Hart) *taken by ME*
Attachment not found.
Kim alias the Arrow Angel appears to be somewhat ditzy and naive, but is in fact a really sweet and clever girl. She cares deeply for her friends and for the innocent, but won't hesitate to put an arrow into anyone she considers evil. She is a ruthless, but nowhere near cynical vigilantess; killing criminals as casually as swatting flies, yet still with the purest of intentions. She has still the most positive attituge of all EXtreme Force members, cares deeply for the others and wants to be the "heart" that keeps them together.
Quote: "Let's get EXtreme!", which has become the battle and morphing cry for the whole team. She also likes making "arrow to the knee" jokes - practical ones, even.
Parodies: The Chick; a token female member who is not too bright or strong, but all positive, the "heart" of the team and sometimes the morality pet. Also, Kim is the most likely to make pop culture references. ^^
Build: An Archery/Dual Blades mix. She is mainly a ranged damage dealer, but also has Support Drones to heal.
Mammoth (Zack Taylor)
Attachment not found.
In Zack's hometown, gangs ruled the streets. Anyone who wasn't a member was a potential victim. And those who joined a gang were save from only one, but hunted by the others. Zack hated this situation and wanted to change it. So he decided to protect the town on his own and started hunting down criminals. His rigtheous hate (coupled with an impressive arsenal, strength and fighting skills) made him an unstoppable force and he almost singlehandedly wiped out serval gangs completely. Under the name of Mammoth, he became a legendary vigilante, said to have personally killed hundreds of criminals.
Quote: "Hey yo, sucka, Imma gonna shoot ya! Like bang-bang-BANG! Ya dead, beotch!"
Parodies: Heroes along the line of Mr. T and "Hammer Man" MC Hammer. Might have been a bigger thing in the 80's, but that's still close enough to the Dark Age of Comics. Anyway, you can think of Mammoth as an antiheroic version of them. Just don't get into "backsploitation" with him.
Recommended Build: Might/Munitions combo, based around Defiance and Enrage. He is mainly a tank, but can deal a lot of damage in melee to medium range too.
Alternative Build: The Behemoth or The Soldier.
Saber (Trini Kwan)
Attachment not found.
A modern kunoichi and professional assassin. She is a loner with a calm and distant, almost shy personality, but turns into a raging beast in battle. Saber has a strong sense for honor, but that doesn't mean she won't use dirty tactics. For her, those who act without honor don't deserve to be treated with honor. She sees herself as an angel of vengeance or a living instrument of punishment of some sorts: Whenever bad guys die at her hands, justice is served. What she did to achive it doesn't matter.
Quote: "I have no mercy for those who live without honor. If you think I'm lacking honor and deserve to die, you're welcome to try."
Parodies: Hot assassin girls and honor-obsessed Asian stereotypes.
Recommended Build: Dual Blades, with focus a little more on Dodge than on Critical Hits.
Alternative Build: The Unleashed or The Specialist.
Attachment not found.
A former Latin-American mercenary, who was just one of many hired mooks for a supervillan. He got a little to close to his boss's secret weapon: A giant dragon, frozen in an iceberg. The creature woke up and breathed strange green fire on Rocky. But instead of being burned to ashes, the fire somehow surged into him and granted him superpowers. Now he too could create green fire, had superhuman strength and durability, nearly endless stamina and developed some kind of a psychic link to the creature. He helped the dragon to escape and together, they began a carrer as unusual guardians of nature.
Quote: "Nature is in balance, without humans interfering. In balance, but never at peace. All live has to fight for survival, constantly. The question is; do you want to fight with us, or against us?" - Spoken with a 30 foot tall, fire-breathing reptile standing behind him.
Parodies: Envoirmental heroes and plots. Those were big in the 90's too, remember? And after all, he's the "green" Ranger.
Recommended Build: Heavy Weapons, with focus on the Fire combo powers. Green fire, of course! Another melee damage dealer with tank abilities.
Alternative Build: The Devastor
Niteblade (Adam Park) *taken by megaman214*
Attachment not found.
Born to a Korean father, he was raised in Japan and learned the art of ninjutsu. Until one day, his master was murdered by an unknown ninja, for sharing the secret martial arts with an "enemy of Japan". Now Adam seeks revenge as Niteblade. He and Sabercat get along rather well, even though they disagree upon if personal honor should matter for a ninja or not.
Quote: Being a ninja, he's not very talkactive.
Parodies: The Wolverine expies, who had become an archetype of some sorts on their own. Blame Image.
Recommended Build: Single Blade, Bleed combos. Melee damage dealer.
Alternative Build: The Blade.
Burst (Aisha Campel)
Attachment not found.
Background: Aisha is a cheerful and friendly person, but very emotional and literally explosive. She is a pyromaniac and loves explosions and fire.
Parodies: The tagalong kid/token immature teammate. A trope more popular in 90's cartoons, but Youngblood had one too.
Recommended Build: Munitions, themed on explosive powers and focused on Knocks, with a few Force and actual Fire powers thrown in.
Alternative Build: The Soldier, The Impulse or The Inferno. Ranged damage dealer and "interruptor".
White Falcon (Tommy Oliver) *taken by nomorereason!*
Attachment not found.Attachment not found.
Background: Unlike the rest of EXtreme Force, White Hawk is an oldschool superhero. A true champion of justice, morale and honorable. He often tries to be their voice of reason, with mixed results. And though he dispises unnecessary violence, he never hesitates to fight evil when he encounters it. Sometimes, he even clashes with his own allies, when they do something he considers injust.
Quote: "HYAA!!!" ^^°
Parodies: The whole madness of Dark Age comics, by averting it. He's the only straight hero on the team! ^^
Recommended Build: Dual Blades/Unarmed combo. Melee to middle ranged damage dealer with tank potential.
Alternative Build: The Unleashed, The Fist, The Master or even The Squall.
Attachment not found.
Background: Kat is a catlike mutant. Shunned and hunted by "pure" humans, she was forced into a life of crime. One day, she was hired by a supervillain to assassinate the members of EXtreme Force one by one. She failed, but fortunatelly it was Arrow Angel who she attacked first and was defeated by. The kindhearted vigilantess showed mercy, seeing that Kat only turned to crime in order to survive. Eventually, Kim managed to win her trust by making her a better offer than anyone before: A home and her friendship. Now she supports the EXtreme Force in their fight against evil, out of gratitude.
Quote: "I'm a serious cat. And this is a serious threat!"
Parodies: The token bestial teammate. Many 90's antihero teams had one member who was either half animal or acted like he was. Again, blame Image and their attempts to recreate the X-Men.
Recommended Build: Bestial
Alternative Build: The Savage.
Omega Zero (Equivalent of Alpha 5)
Attachment not found.
Background: Created as a guard and service robot for the EXtreme Force's HQ, Omega Zero - or Omega for short - has proven himself to be a surprisingly competent fighter in offensive combat. He has a rather simple AI and not much of a personality.
Quote: "Insurgeant activity detected. Initializing aggressive defense protocol."
Parodies: The emotionless badass. The most popular example is, of course, the Terminator. Many 90's heroes were considered badass because they were perpetually angry. But there were also some who didn't display emotions at all.
Recommended Build: Power Armor. Sadly, it's hard to make a good build out of that atm...
Alternative Build: The Invulnerable
Ceasar (Equivalent of the Dragonzord, sorta)
Attachment not found.
Background: The offspring of the monster that gave Dragoon his powers. It can sense the radiation in him and therefore sees him as his daddy. The young dragon was held captive in a secret research facility ever since he hatched. When he broke out, Dragoon "tamed" him and is now the only one who can control him.
Quote: Being an animal, he can't talk. But Dragoon can still somehow understand him.
Parodies: The Team Pet. This is more of a cartoon trope again. Superhero teams just had to have a pet, most likely a dog. But Ceasar here specifically parodies one of the most annoying examples ever: Godzooky. But unlike him, this little dragon can fight!
Recommended Build: Bestial/Fire combo, but mostly Bestial, based on Enrage.
Alternative Build: The Savage or The Behemoth
EXtreme Megabot (Equivalent of a Megazord) *not a character on his own*
Attachment not found.
Background: A 30 ft tall humanoid robot, made from the combined vehicles of the EXtreme Force and used to fight supersized enemies.
Parodies: Well, the Megazord. And the Second Generation Transformers. Yes, the giant robot has pouches!
Recommended Build: Any. He is just a costume for special occassions, after all.
