In-Character Introduction:
Villains: Misunderstood, or simply trying to prove something? More and more pop up each day, seeking revenge, discovering new power, but each one have similar goals, though they may not know it; they seek to destroy, corrupt, antagonize. What if someone brought these individuals together? Would they be capable of working as a team? Should that happen
would the heroes be able to stop this unstoppable force of nature? One man is willing to try and see how far he can go by gathering villains of all shapes, sizes, and threat levels in an attempt to bring down the forces of good. The heroes have stood in their way for too long and now
now it is time to work together in destroying them once and for all.
Though he is only known by few, Furious Storm is willing to test the waters in recruiting a number of villains of various backgrounds and origins to bring down the Heroic Age. In order to continue on with his plans, he knows he must bring together a team that will prove worthy against the heroes. By using them, he knows he may succeed in continuing on with his own devious plans. Of course
those who join him also have the benefit of being helped with their own devious plots. Promises of wealth, power, and anything one desired are made by Furious Storm. Unlike most though, the villain often delivers and may even give potential recruits a taste of what will come, should they ally with him.
Out-of-Character information:
I. What the Sinister Syndicate is about (Theme/Concept):
The Sinister Syndicate is a villain supergroup that is inspired by the Marvel group the Brotherhood. The focus of the Syndicate is to unite like-minded individuals and focus their attention on those who get in the way of their plans. The purpose of the villain group is to allow people who enjoy playing villains the spotlight in showing off their villain character. While some villains may have a tough time working with one another, the villain group will be able to assist in developing minion characters for certain characters. This will allow people who have mastermind type characters coordinate better conflict RP and provide an even better experience for players taking part in an encounter.
II. What the Sinister Syndicate has to offer:
The Sinister Syndicate offers players the opportunity to take part in group roleplay by coordinating villain characters with one another for large scale assaults. However, the Syndicate loves PVE just as much as RP and will provide people the opportunity to run missions, lairs, and alerts with one another. Players will also be able to run their own RP plots for hero supergroups to provide a Nemesis type encounter between groups.
III. The Villain Campaign:
A villain campaign is a story arc that involves the several members from the Syndicate and focuses providing a storyline that involves another hero supergroup for Champions Online. The focus is to give the hero group a chance to roleplay with other player villains. While the Campaign may not start right away, it will be something to look forward when the Syndicate has sufficient numbers.
IV. Website & Channel information:
The Sinister Syndicate may be found over at its updated
website here.
The application to join the Sinister Syndicate may also be found on our website under the
"Applications" section of the U.M.F. forums.
The channel is in character and OOC brackets must be used for those using the channel out-of-character.
To join, type in:
/channel_join "TheSyndicate"V. Recruitment:
The recruiting process has several steps. The first part of the recruiting process is it to fill out an application. The application will help in providing character information that recruiters may use in-character to find your character and offer them a position within the Syndicate. The application will also provide some information about yourself, allowing us to get to know you a little better before recruiters meet for a roleplay session.
The second step in the recruiting process will be the roleplay step. Before you can be introduced into the Syndicate, an encounter with your villain will need to be set up. This encounter will be against the heroes of Millennium City (also with player characters of the CORP community). This will allow for people to see what kind of villain your character is first hand. Once they pass the roleplay stage, they may be welcomed into the group in-character by one of the recruiters.
The application may be found here:
http://theumf.shivtr.com/vb_threads/1129764VI. Alternate Character Policy:
Players will be allowed three characters within the Sinister Syndicate. The recruiting process applies to each character, which means each character you wish to get into the Syndicate must follow the Application and Roleplay stages of the recruiting process. While you are not expected to play only these characters, the limit is set to three to allow character growth for Syndicate characters while having enough room to keep a few alts. Its understood that players enjoy playing multiple characters, but the policy is to help keep focus on the story of the Syndicate characters as well as the overall story of the group.
VII. Contacts for Recruitment:Recruiters reserve the right to deny any person(s) for the recruitment process.VIII. Who we are looking for:Original Characters. An important aspect that were looking for. We are looking for characters with some originality. We do not want to see straight up rip offs of characters from the Marvel or DC universes. Homages may be fine, but they must be different enough from the character it is based off of to be original.
Team Dynamic. The Sinister Syndicate is looking for characters that will be able to add to the team dynamic of the group. The Syndicate is making an effort to have villains work with one another in bringing down the Heroic Age.
Characters of all origins. While Furious Storm seeks out primarily Mutants, he has no issue in seeking out others of varying origins. Those of science, alien, or supernatural origins will interest him greatly for his team of evildoers.
Characters with varying skill sets. From healers to bricks, from scientists to magic users, the Sinister Syndicate will put any skill to the test. Even villains need to work as a team and each of their skills will be put to use to take down the heroes of Millennium City.
Respect. Even villains need respect. We want players to get along with one another and respect will go a long way for people. Villainy should be fun, not a drama filled disaster!
Game Masters. The Sinister Syndicate loves RP! We are looking for people that will help run events and storylines for its members as well as people looking to help with Villain Campaigns against hero supergroups.
Knowledgeable Roleplayers. The Syndicate is seeking those who have had some experience in roleplay. While we may allow people that are new to RP, we are more inclined to invite people with some experience in roleplaying, may it be from other MMOs or from PnP games.
IX. What we arent looking for:Hand wavers. While the group is seeking characters with varying abilities, we do not want characters to be too powerful. Drama is key to roleplay and having characters that can simply do anything and write off anything as an easy solution takes that drama away from a scene. We want people that have specific skill sets (such as healers) to have a role within the supergroup.
God Moders. We are definitely trying to avoid people that may god mod. As mentioned before, we are seeking people that have some experience in roleplay. We do not want to see players cheapening the roleplay experience by having their villains be instantly awesome and unbeatable. Villains need to be able to give the heroes a chance to win.
Characters that join and are never seen again. While we know players enjoy having multiple characters, we want to see the characters in the Sinister Syndicate more often so people may start up relationships between their characters. The Syndicate provides its own channel, so players should use it to keep in touch!
