Hello everyone! I'm ecstatic to be back in Champions Online.

I apologize for leaving suddenly without explanation. It's always difficult when a beloved activity becomes unhealthy, and in my case some power FX that were added to the game last year seemed to reactivate my epilepsy, which had been dormant for years. I did not want to burden my friends with this kind of heavyweight, difficult to relate to, and seemingly unsolvable problem. Coupled with that, the need to suddenly and completely stop one of my favorite activities was difficult and contributed to the cold-turkey approach that I took.

Having a seizure is like waking up from a trance, not being able to remember the last ~30 minutes, and feeling extremely tired. It can also causes mood swings, unpleasant thoughts, and other personality changes. The most important thing I learned was from my doctor, who explained that lack of sleep is a major contributing factor for borderline epileptics - for me, that turned out to be the key to recovery, and is a big part of why I feel safe about coming back.

Meanwhile, unbeknown to me, my wonderful friends were here on the forum lobbying the developers to change the power FX that were bothering me. It's difficult to express how much this means to me, and when I found out how many people were involved in trying to help, I was overcome with positive emotions. I'll just say, my heart swelled three sizes that day. :)

I only found out about all of this a few days ago, after a 4 month blackout from anything CO related, so it is a total coincidence that my return coincides with the On Alert patch. I'll discuss my feelings on aspects of the patch in other threads, although overall I'm happy with the state of the game, and feel fortunate to have come back at this time.

Thanks for reading!

    Hey! Welcome back Iso!

I can't tell you how happy I am to hear that you've got your problem back under control.
For 8 years I worked as a therapist with a clientele in which seizure disorders were common, and I know how it can change a person. All I can say is congratulations!

I may not have always agreed, but I've always valued your posts. I personally think you've picked an excellent time to return and I look forward you your feedback.

    :)

    Welcome back...
Have a sort of perhaps you should have contrived to give it another month feeling but WB nonetheless.
Funny!... Epileptic here too but I never have a prob with graphics (except for the Energy Refraction adv for force bolts which when used in Canada seems to melt the backs of my eyeballs).

Lolz man But Epilepsy is soooo not like that! You get that wierd thought process turning all conversation into drivel and it's like Revelation Space Man! And then you start convulsing which is awesome when you're remembering it. (Slightly less so at the time).

Well that's the thing with 10 billion different OS - a bug on one system is completely diff on another.
My heartiest congratulations on achieving a fix for your hardware.

    Welcome back, Iso!

I may have read Heinlein's Expanded Universe too many times - I was expecting the next two threads to be titled "'-- We Also Walk Dogs'", and "Searchlight"... :)
