Well! I'm worried that I've jumped into the game a little too deep, too quick, but we'll see how it goes.
I've been looking through Supergroups here in Champions Online, as well as back in City of Heroes, and though I've found many unique and interesting concepts, I've never once joined a Supergroup! Two years of playing CoH, and never did I get to enter SG mode, have a Supergroup base, or any of that fun stuff—simply because I couldn't find a group that fit my needs.

To that end, I've gone and laid out the groundwork of my own Supergroup. Whether it succeeds or fails all depends on whether my vision is too grand, or not well thought out enough, as well as how good my advertising pitch is, heheh!

The supergroup's name is “.Freelancer.”, because all variations of the word were already taken, and I wanted the name regardless, simple as that. I see so many Supergroups out there with unique titles and specific entry requirements; “must be golden age, spandex wearing”, “must be vigilante themed”, “must be vampires or dark creatures” etcetera. I realized it was the entry-level stuff that kept me from joining; I didn't want to feel as though I was giving up certain aspects of my character's uniqueness in order to fit into a group—nor did I want to create a character I had little interest in, in order to join that group.

Therefore, the Freelancer Association. Now this is a grand vision (aren't they all), but for now I'm content just to think of it as a small group of folks who enjoy playing Champions Online, and enjoy being with others who do the same.

If you're interested, please read my 'official' sales pitch below!

.Freelancer.
Colors: Black + Gray
Emblem: Double-Diamond (subject to change)

The Freelancer Association has one main goal: to provide community support to those who require it, both inside and outside of the group. Whether people are looking for heroes to help with missions, or roleplayers to join a story; folks to join a PvP team, or individuals who simply want to hang around with the crowd, the Freelancer Association is a player resource to be used for whatever needs.

The Freelancer Supergroup has 4 ranks. Duplicate ranks exist with 'RP' added as a suffix, indicating that individual is primarily a roleplayer.
  • Associate: An introductory level for individuals who are interested in expanding the Freelancer roster, but may not be entirely committed to the group. This is essentially an entry-level guest pass that allows others to wear the Freelancer tag and get to know the people in the group.
  • Freelancer: The primary level for members, Freelancers will fill the bulk of the Supergroup's community. Their responsibilities are few, and they may utilize the group's resources freely.
  • Contractor: The primary position of leadership, Contractors have the ability to arrange and organize events, as well as expel members who abuse general conduct rules when necessary.
  • Commander: The Supergroup overseers/founders.

I want the group to be as neutral as possible, so I picked neutral colors and the most neutral (yet somewhat meaningful) emblem I could find. It needed to be an emblem that looked natural on any character, whether they were a modern and tech-savvy vigilante, or a magic-casting fantasy mage; to have a meaning that was subjective and non-indicative—something that didn't stand out too much, really, and it might change to something even less noticeable if need be.

But just because the emblem is made to be little-noticed, does not mean the Supergroup should be! It's the community that I want to shine. Whether it's talking about game mechanics or planning a roleplaying get-together at someone's hideout, the Freelancer Association is intended to be a place for mature and open minded folks to find others with dedication towards helping in any endeavor. Now, I'm not expecting PvP'ers, RP'ers, Grinders and Raiders to all come together holding hands, so that's why I've divided the ranks with RP variants. If someone comes to the Freelancer community with the intention of finding others to roleplay with, they can look to the roleplaying members to provide input. If someone has a question on PvP builds or whatnot, they'll have members with those skills there to assist and discuss with.

What do I expect from members? I guess I have to ask and answer this since I'm the founder and all, but what I really want is for folks to join a group they feel comfortable with. I want members to be unique and kind, empathetic when needed, and to assist if possible. If a problem is beyond a member's ability, then they suggest alternative members or individuals who might help; if someone in or outside the group needs assistance, I'd like Freelancer member to help them as best they can if they have the time, and to represent the group well.

But this is a lot of text for a Supergroup that's only just started, so I'll leave it here for now. If anyone has any questions they'd like to ask, or input, prior experience, or even an offer to join, please respond or send me a PM—I'd greatly appreciate it.

For now, thanks for reading, and I hope this group sounds interesting at the very least!
