I'm sure the pieces look great, but this is getting pretty lame to have to buy bag after bag to try for a complete set. Please don't tell me this is the new standard policy for releasing costume sets.

Too late. And you get the pieces from the mobs, well most of them.

My only problem with the daily quest for free grab-bags is that the mobs aren't that easy to find, and their drop rate for the items you need to collect sucks. (You need to collect 10 Costume Pieces for Rox, and are then rewarded with one Grab Bag. I lost track of the number of mobs I'd killed somewhere in the double digits, and I have four Costume Pieces. It's quite frustrating.)

You have to find a good spot and do zone-hopping. I did the quest today with 14 characters and have all
of the earth items. Can't really say i have problems if we get more sets in that way ;)

I see no drop rates listed... All I see is "you will get one of the following and one of these" but I see no percentages or odds for any of the pieces that you will get one of.

It's still gambling, I still don't know what I'm buying. Half costume parts appear to be recycled content. Even if it only gave you what you don't have yet, you still spend around 3 times more than previous flat rate costume sets. This is unacceptable to me.

I'm willing to pay more at a flat rate. I'm not willing to pay more at an unknown, gambling rate.

At least if I knew the odds, I could run some math to figure out how much money it would PROBABLY cost me to buy the whole set. Even then it'd still be gambling, just not as much of one because I've got fancy math in my head to figure out the mean, average cost, etc.

From my understanding, you have a 100% chance to get a costume part out of the ones listed. Yes, who knows the exact drop rate odds of each of the parts (and woe to be those who get the Resistance Wings of Everyone On The Planet Already Has Three Of), but you'll always get a costume part at least.

It's a lot better than in the past, where the costume drop rate wasn't that high. I'd have to dig up the old thread, but the Infernal set was what, 50%? 75%?

And if the one part we really want has only a 1% chance of dropping and the rest are evenly distributed? I hardly see that as being 100%? Seriously saying "you have a 100% chance to get one of the following" is totally meaningless.

Hey, here's how you make Roulette not gambling.

You have a 100% chance of winning one of the following prizes at Roulette:
    No chips,
    Half the chips you bet,
The same number of chips you bet,
    Twice the chips you bet,
Three times the chips you bet.

See? It's not gambling, you have a 100% chance of winning one of those. Totally not gambling.

I loved the quest (but still haven't finished it), I got some resistance stuff, and I'm happy with the things I got.. The only new thing was the aura, though, so I'm questioning, are you doing this bag for fun, or are we going to expect the new costume releases to be in grab bags?

There are at least 7 new costume pieces in there. 3 are from resistance and 3 are from the geo armor set with added auras.

The difference here is that if I went into a Casino and tried to exchange no chips for 3 times what I would bet on Roulette it wouldn't happen. Trading the items you get from these bags is very easy.

Look, I wasn't a fan of the previous grab bag incarnations and honestly I still prefer costume sets as a 1-off payment, but give credit where it's due. This is a happy medium.

Quest: Go to the tailor in RenCen, and look for Roxstar standing on a platform nearby. (They label him "The Mountain".) Talk to him; you'll be tasked with tracking down Rockers, rock monsters that do an air-guitar emote, and defeating them to collect pieces of a new experimental costume that's been stolen from him. Bring him 10 such pieces, and you get a Mountain Grab Bag.

I've been very hesitant with grab bags in the past, but I think this is really another matter entirely than the other bags released. 100% drops of key items, with decent gear and boosts? Thats kind of a hard offer to turn down. Not to mention they made them available ingame, albiet with a grind attached.

I'm okay with buying these bags, provided that Cryptic doesn't get it into their head to release all content like this. If I see the 90s set in a grab bag...well then we're going to be back to square one again.

For now, these make me hopeful.

I will say getting a consistent message from Cryptic as to their intention for using grab bags would be helpful. Are these just going to be filler items and reskins of old costume bits? If so its a good sell and I like it. If on the other hand you want to sell us new full sets in grab bag form...well thats a horse of a different color.

This is retarded that i have to pay money at a chance at a set piece. If it was pay so much for a chance, or so much more for the set that would be better. I think this new grab bag system is retarded. To top it off I havent ven gotten the scourge eyes I want and now I cant find the scourge bag on the c-store (not that I'd pay money for the random drop anyway). They want 600g on the auction house for the eyes... I've never had that kind of cash in game, so I'll never see those and I am a gold customer. The grab bags suck, please stop it. Go back to selling costume sets please.

600G is a rather small sum to come up with...
If you're willing to work a little for it, you can easily get yourself 30-40G per costume unlock in some very short very repeatable mission, so long you don't take the final reward. (Hint: CS-2.3, VBA-BTTP...)

I was completely opposed to the gamble bags, but with their new implementation, I really have no issue:
    1. You can buy the bag and be sure to get a costume piece, 100% drop-rate (this is a world of improvement).
    2. You can buy pieces in the AH, or trade doubles with friends / players.
    3. You can do the mission for a free bag (yes it takes time, but it's free).
As it now stands and barring some policy rollback from PWE-Cryptic, I find it difficult to complain as hard as before. Note that I'd like the completely new sets like Bird hero or Avian to be released as a pack and not bags.

I won't pay another cent for a grab bag. It's nickel and diming at its worst and I feel as a loyal player I deserve to know what I am getting for my money. One time was one time too many but three times is gonna start a revolution.

Then go grind the daily mission. You can get a grab bag for free. And this time, it's actually going to have an item in it that's advertised, not just some random cra- er, stuff. (I picked up Rock Bracers, a green item that Starbird really could use, and a four-pack healing item.)

I understand that Las Vegas is legally obligated to issue an apology every time someone blows their life savings at the slot machines they were in no way forced to play.

That having been said, not having the full costume set for proper sale after the Roxstar event will be a douchebag move.

I don't think this is an event. Daily missions have a tendency to stick around.

I hope the mission sticks around, as I'm taking a sort-of break from Champions due to problems with internet connection at home... I'm interested in the rock pieces not just because they might look good, but that they might look good with a character concept I haven't yet thought about yet in the future. Grabbing them and having them unlocked is tanatmount to being prepared for the Next Big Thing in my characters.

All in all, I'm quite pleased with the event. It's great to be able to get the grab bags without spending CP, even if it is for a limited time. So far, repeating the daily quest over multiple characters for a few hours over each of the past two days, I've managed to get all but the Rock Head piece and the Resistance Feet.

Didn't have the Resistance Hands or Wings before this event.

    Very pleased indeed. :)

If you look in your quest log under the "Completed" tab, the Roxstar mission appears under the "Events" heading.

Very good! This is the first event that the mobs drop costume pieces from a grab bag, right? Or did I miss any event prior to this like for the curse or squall that also drops costume pieces? How come the Roxstar event was not announced? It's not in the schedule of events and patch notes.

It's not an event, even if the mission appears under that heading. The mobs don't drop pieces from the grab bag, forget that notion. You get a grab bag from completing the mission.

No there are no other missions like this for other grab bags and it wasn't in the patch notes because the patch notes were incomplete.

Not quite sure what all the fuss is about - money needs to be made for all the shiny new content that everyone is clamouring for, and the most effective way to make the money without introducing items that help you win (like other mmorpgs, BUT completely vilified by CO players) is to itnroduce a system, like the grab bags, that maximise the amount of money Cryptic can make from new content roll out.

IMHO, a better way to do it would have been to restrict the grab bag missions to Gold members. Then, you'd have the following options for costume pieces:

1 - Subscribe to Gold, pick up missions, farm pieces (Cryptic make more sub)
2 - Be a silver and buy a grab bag (Cryptic make money from the bags)
3 - Buy on AH (Cryptic don't make anything directly, but the price inflation you would see on the AH due to the piece missions being restricted to a subset of CO users would lead more people to participate in either [1] or [2])
