There is a trade channel... but not enough people know about it and/or not enough of the people buying are there. The sellers will go where there are people to sell it.
If you mean having an GUI-integrated, popdown menu option for "Trade" (i.e.: Zone, Local, Team, etc.), then that's a good idea but you should clarify that better.

That's the real issue - all these useful and specific channels exist, but no one knows about them because they are player made and go unadvertised.
Isn't part of the point of zone to advertise things? It's been that way in every mmo I've ever played, and only CO has so much QQ about people trying to trade things there. I don't see anything in the tos saying you can't advertise selling drops in zone. It's certainly not considered spam. Might be flooding, but that's only when they're posting it like this.
Lemme be blunt about this: as long as there's a g cap for silvers, we'll see trade spam. Probably in zone, even if this channel exists. Not everyone's gonna be in it, as evidenced by the posts that say "put it in a trade channel so I don't have to see it". To sell a low level darkspeed for the thousand they're fetching, it'll cost a silver 50G. 1/5 their entire limit of money. And they won't be able to actually get the loot for it, because of the cap, which is why we keep seeing "wtt darkspeed for 3 becomes" etc... Because they're a currency.
I'm pretty sure that's why they haven't made a trade channel in the first place, truth be told. You're trying to correct a breach of rules that don't exist, for a problem cryptic doesn't think is one.
Well i never said that the tradespam was in gedaan of the TOS.
Yes zone is for advertising aswell as zone wide chat/discussion. And i would mind the trade afdvertisements if they werent flooding the channel (which counts as spam to me)
I only played two mmo's before this: dcuo and coh (since beta) and in both you could have a lekker discussion with other players on the zone channel. Here you dont even get to see your own message, thats how quickly it moved up because of the WTS flooding. To me that is detrimental to the community part of the game: i dont even look at the zone channel thee days, is not QQ-ing when you point out a problem and offer a solution...
Make the channel GAME-wide, and im sure geweest will use it. And at the same time enact a rule that should discourage the use of zone for trade.

Also, the channel should be set (when starting the game for the first time) to default on the chat tab, so people can find it. (and turn it off haha)
