Looking for SG, Light RP / PvE preferred

Archived PostArchived Post Posts: 1,156,071 Arc User
Hi all,

As the title already mentions I am looking for a supergroup and overall people to play with, that have at least some interest in roleplaying.

EDIT: Thanks all for your replies advice and suggestions, I have found some possible SG's for me to join. I will not check out any more currently as I want to dedicate my time to the offers I already have. It is very likely that I will join one of them, so this thread is no longer important ;)

Theme

I am in particular looking for players that are not heavily focusing on the typical hero theme (ie. super costume wearing super humans that only exist to save the world from suddenly ever appearing threats .. ok I admit thats a bit extremely formulated, but I think you get the idea)

Neither am I a big friend of mechas and other scientific or mechanical constructs. What I am looking for is a group that is more interested in the mythical/fantasy aspects of the game.

That does not mean that I have a problem with players who have other concepts. After all the world is in a modern age and the setting is a superhero setting, so its completely fine if others like that, but it is hard to get some RP going with such a wide range of possible power sources.

I'd like to have some common ground for the mystical, so that I can actually talk about and RP about something that I personally like. I have a hard time listening to a conversation about the latest anti matter bombs and not get bored. RP is after all not only talking about the own ideas, but also enjoying other players' ideas. If I am confronted with some big mecha story I normally have a hard time of really getting into it and finding some immersion.

Playing Times / Activity

I am normally online a lot and also playing a lot. It won't be hard to get a char up in a rather short time, neither will it be hard to be around for RPs a lot. I'd prefer a good mix of actually doing ingame content and roleplaying. Thats the main reason why I mentioned light RP. After all I still want to achieve something in the game as well, because I think especially working for a goal together can be a lot of fun.

Char Ideas, Other Things

I'm currently still thinking about my character concept. What I've learned in the past decade of playing online games and roleplaying in online games is that it can be rather hard to find some people to have a common story with.
Most often everyone tries to plan out their own ideas for the charater and then everyone just tries to get attention and nothing really happens at all.
Without a real dungeon master, like you have it in pen and paper games there is no one but the players themselves to shape the story and with everyone just trying to get their own character ideas in the main plot it rarely works out well.

I try a different approach to my character this time. Not sure how to exactly realise it, but I will have the character develop depending on what she experiences with other players. The basic idea is a fairy kind of character, happy without problems, not bringing her own drama into other players' stories and curious enough to stick her nose in everything that sounds interesting.

Would be happy if there are some people out there who are close to what I'm looking for.

If not for your stipulation against "Tights wearing super heroes", my group would be just about perfectly what you are looking for.

I encourage you to check us out anyhow, as our themes aren't all that hard to fit into, and we tend to stay away from overly Anime / Manga style Sci-fi - Mecha stuff as well. We're much friendlier to fantasy themed character for sure. The most important aspects of what you seek, good friendly people, light RP style, collaborative approach to Role-playing, those are things we're very much into.

As far as the project of creating a character with blank slate elements that will develop based on RP, I strongly recommend you get set up with a group of players you trust first, before trying this. I learned the hard way once myself that this road you seek to travel can be not just bumpy, but painful.

Also, I'm a big fan of duos and themed teams, planned out not in a solo vacuum, as most characters are [as you point out], but with other players from the start. Unfortunately, my luck on such concepts hasn't been too good here in Champions Online, although several worked out very well for me back when I played CoH.

In any event, links are in my sig, and I hope you choose to give us a try.

    Thanks for your reply.

I did check out your thread before writing this and yes, it kind of made me think for a while.

The biggest problem I have with the common superhero kind of characters is that I rarely have characters that see themselves as such. Nearly all my chars are good hearted (because I have a hard time OOC with playing an evil character) but being good does not make you a super hero.

Without that sort of motivation, I am missing a lot of good ideas for that type of RP. I'm just used to fantasy a lot more than to super hero and comic type RP's. How do they become what they are? What are they doing all day long? Saving the world over and over again is .. well to me it seems like a really flat character development.

That might very well be, because I've not a lot of experience with comics or super heroes and likely the few in mass media are not the good ones. My fantasy experience ranges back years and years with lots of information about RPs and books. My super hero experience includes superman and batman .. I guess thats it (and not a lot of in depth info on that either)

The idea with the whole academy/school from one of your friendly SG's was kind of interesting though.

Building a hero character in the more classical way that I actually like to play seems rather hard to me, I don't find enough material that I personally like that doesn't drift off into fantasy right away.

As for the roleplaying concept for developing the char .. it always comes down to a good group. Whatever concept you take if the group is not good all of them will fail at some point. So I don't worry too much about that. Making up some background on the fly is just another way of going with it. It's normally a bit harder for pen&paper games as you have it voice and real time based there, while in games its text based, so that gives you some more time. On the other hand it leaves more flexibility to fit the chars story with someone elses'

As for teaming up with others from the start for a story, that never worked out for me. I always end up with being online a lot more and then sit around bored because I have to wait for others for the story to go on. That makes it very inflexible. Either you can play with a lot of people or you will have a hard time.

From your posts and introduction, you seem to be a decent group, so if you don't mind I would be happy to give it a closer look somehow. Though I will not try to fit a fantasy themed char in a classical superhero group. It might work, but for that I don't have enough experience yet how I would fit in there. However I'd be very happy to make a new concept for a character that would fit in and that I'd like to play. Maybe by getting to know you and a few members or listen to RPs you're doing to get a feeling for it.

EDIT: I have registered on your webpage/thrown an app in.

Hey, I might be late to offer this, but if you are still looking for a group, the Defenders of Order are recruiting super heroes. The group is mostly based on mythic things, events, and has leaders that are of mythic nature. The group itself is heavy to medium role playing, but out of character socialization is also used between members. The only problem with the group itself is that it is new, and basically there is no one to talk to, as of yet, so it might be boring until more recruits start coming in. If you are still looking for a group, then you can just come and check out the page.

As for creating a character that will merge into the role playing community, it is harder then what most people think, so you won't make the "perfect" character for roleplaying. What I have done with my toons that I use for roleplaying is that, orginally, I base their attitudes, and what type of history they have off of other popular comic book heroes, but as they socialize with other heores, the story tends to change and evolve into "Their" own story.

I hope that could help you out as much as I could, and you can come check out the Defenders of Order website by following the link below.

Thanks for your reply as well Plasmoid.

I have found two nice looking SG's that I am interested in so far. I also gave your webpage a look and read through it a little bit, but to be honest with you, I'm rather inexperienced with this whole topic of super heroes and comics, so I would prefer an already established group. At the beginning I will start out a lot more with being passive and listening and learning than actually being active about.

With a new starting SG this will not work out as well. For a new group of people, be it a SG, Clan, Guild, Allegiance or whatever it might be called, it is important for its members to be active and outgoing. Neither would I be a big help to you currently, nor would I have enough people around to really learn from.

While I appreciate the offer, I'm not really interested a lot. Either way I wish you good luck for your supergroup.

As for everyone else, thanks all for reading (I will also update the initial post) but so far I have enough to check out and learn. Two is already one more than I need and it is likely that I will join one of those two should they decide they want me to join. I am sure there are a lot of nice groups out there, but I wouldn't do them justice if I split my time for checking out more than two super groups at a time.

    All the Best, Lyl
