So, what's the drop rate on these things? 30 kills on Elite, and no sign of them yet.

Join the choir! I`ve killed him around 30 times too, across multiple characters on diverse level ranges without getting it. Since I`m not patient enough to keep grinding him, I`m stopping. I`m assuming the drop rate is somewhere below 4%.

To get an accurate drop rate, though, we would need to kill him around a thousand times, and then calculate the percentage.
If we get 31 more people saying they killed him 30 times without getting it...we can assume it`s below 1 per thousand!

Devs said, i quote: "drop rates won't be like Vibora Bay, they will be reasonable."

Uuu-huh. 30 kills with a 4-kill per day limit due to AP limitations. Reasonable.

This is one thing that always sticks in my craw with drops. Devs seem to be allergic to giving info on drop rates. Yes, its all well and good to say something is reasonable...but what is that supposed to mean? Lacking for a percentage, we can't even accurately judge if the drop rate is broken...Which given the problems thus far in item in theis AP seems fairly likely.

The 4-kill per day limit can be...gotten around if you know how. Same trick as grinding the Bunkers for their drops in SL.

That said - yes, the drop rate is to nobody's surprise, low. And who knows if it actually scales to difficulty like the VB items do.

Just wondering - in order to farm items like this, is replaying through the entire adventure pack mandatory, or is there a way to replay certain parts of it?

Log out after killing Black Mask. And start jail from the beginning after awhile.

With FlyingFinn`s suggested method, you can do it as many times a day as you can, taking into account that you have to wait around 5-10 minutes between replays of the two sections.

Or get into and then leave a group to reset all of your instanced missions. Then you can go back in immediately.

Why aren't these pieces purchaseable w/ the UNTIL tokens? They went through the trouble of setting up the vendor there, why not use it? What's so bad about guaranteed rewards that people can actually work toward, knowing what they'll get.

Probably that if the reward is assured, then the ammount of time we, the players, will spend playing will be less overall than if it`s a 0.1% chance (or whatever it is).

Well, only a small fraction of players will actually farm for these drops. The rest of the players will play for whatever amount they feel like, regardless of the drop rate. Personally, if you knew that 10 or so runs would net you the gunblades, you may be more likely to do them.

I think it's safe to say that casual players aren't doing the time of grinding that other frequent forumites have attested to doing themselves...

I think that's probably safe to say, yeah.

I'm one of the crazy types who grinded (ground?) out an R3 BoE (not BoP) CTP... and I'm currently working on my 2nd.

Once i get done with the damn Gunblades, that is........

Well, I`ll have to agree with Biostem. I really would prefer it to be a UNTIL vendor item instead of a random drop, but I`m wondering...
Some have suggested in zone chat today that it seems drops are more common the more people there is on a team. If that`s the case, maybe these extremely rare drops are there to give inentives to team play?

hopefully not cause it's easy mode for me with more people no matter what i play. even those lairs are pretty manageable with the right build. Duo is fun though. Seems the most fun playstyle across 6 mmos I currently play.

But here's the rub - let's say your assumption is correct. Let's further say that if you are on a team of 5, the drop rate is like 10x higher. Now, a team which should be working together becomes a group of people competing against one-another since only 1 item drops. If they really wanted to encourage teaming, they should make these drops give a copy for each team member...

Well, if they sabotage each other, no one gets to kill the boss, and so no one gets the item. Though I guess once someone gets the drop they would leave/not stick until everyone get their copy, so I see what you mean.

*I had the impression drops from bosses in this pack were the same across all members? Or maybe that one time we compared what we got was just a terrible coincidence.

My point was more along the lines of "I form a team, set it to master looter, give myself the guns, then leave".

That's the sort of issue I have w/ the drops.

The thing is that each member of the team gets the exact same drop, no matter the team loot settings. So, if the gunblades drop for someone, it drops for everyone in the team, just like Dark Speed. The only boss exception in this AP is Shadow Destroyer whose drop isn't for everyone.

I had a SG member only dropping Darkspeed for 3 out of 5 people.

Trust me it dropped 5 of them, one of your team members had more then 1 and decided not to say anything. Happened to my team with Dark Speed and the Gunblades, but our team member was a friend so he just gave them to us.

I have absolutely given up on farming anything for drops. I ran Resistance once and got one until token as my final reward. I helped a SG mate with the final battle once and got a nemesis token (WTF?!?) and the wings.

I think people get turned off by the abyssmal drop rates and don't bother replaying the APs. I know it turns me off and I never bother again.

I've finished SL twice and haven't even bothered with DF at all.

At least in DF there weren`t any risk of an NPC killing the bosses and ruining your drop chances...though it also has costume pieces on the UNTIL vendor, so even if only 3 bosses drop blues you still can use the tokens for something.

No matter what the drop rates, Dark Speed and THe Gun Blades have to be two of the fastest farm/repeats there are. Trying to hit them up a few times every night.

Start to Obliette is 15 mintues at most on eliite. Super easy if you have teleport and an active defense/Nimbus Bubble. I don't have a way to snipe the Bot controllers so I just bubble in and click everything. Get the farming in now before they fix the Jet bug.

Gun Blades is no more than 15 minutes either, little more boring though as Prisoner form runs soooo slow.

Actually if you activate your travel power before putting the prisoner outfit on, it will still be active when you're disguised.

edit: ya crafted travel powers I meant.

If you have Dark Speed or a crafted travel power, it becomes way faster. :p Activate the TP device, put the disguise, enjoy.

From the discussion, it looks like the size of the team affects the drop rate. How about the difficulty? Besides the resistance wings, does running on elite benefits the chances of getting costume unlocks?

I don't think the team size improves anything, but the difficulty definitely does. What is good in team is that if it drops, everyone gets it.

A few questions, aimed at those lucky enough to have dropped the item:
    - Difficulty mode ?
    - Party size ?
    - Level range ?
    - Wearing the disguise or not ?

One last point : I've been running the jail solo-elite-40, and every time I kill Kodiak, I get...nothing, not even a mere token... Is it the same for you ?

Thanks for your help and info.

If one of the npc's get in the last hit, you won't get any rewards. That's why I always get the aggro and lead the boss somewhere where there are no friendlies. (like the very same room Kodiak comes out of.)

I have a question. Has anyone had the gun-blades drop on a setting other then elite?

I only ask because I am on my 79th run at level 40 on hard, but have yet to have them drop. just a little f.y.i. before any one asks I have been soloing all these attempts and switched to hard because of having difficulty getting in that ever so important last hit on the bosses.

Yes, they can drop on any difficulty, but lower difficulties will have a lower chance of it dropping.

Well i guess it could just be really, really, bad luck then.

But seriously 80 tries and no drop. That's one hell of a ridiculous drop rate. I could have farmed the 500+G they are going for at the AH in the time I have spent on this. In fact I think that's what I'll do. I am officially giving up on farming these blasted things.

On the up side I won't have to farm another Until token anytime soon.

Maybe you're just reeeeaaallly unlucky? I mean, even if the drop rate is 10%, it's not like after ten runs you're gaurenteed to get the drop... though that would be neat if they implemented a system like that: each time you run the thing, the drop chance for you gets higher and higher until it's 100%, and then it resets after the item drops.
