Hey all,
Names Jak; I'm new to champions online and was looking to advice..I went ahead and got the gold membership for the next few months and trying to decide on an archetype. I like the look of the specialist so far and maybe grimiore but I can't choose as they all look fun. I'd like some advice from people who've played for abit and seen some of the game, because I was thinking of crafting my specialist to be something of a mercenary. For those who want the full backstory send a PM and I"ll be happy to share it.

Welcome aboard! I hope you enjoy your stay!

Since you're subscribing, try a freeform character! Pick and choose whatever powers you like or just want to mess around with.

Jack, give us a rough idea of what kind of character you want to play, and we can make suggestions...

I'm wanting to play a mercenary styled character I suppose, something that fits more with my morals..I used the specialist as a guide and am trying things out with the dual pistol abilities and single blade rather than dual blades. His name is Kincaid, if he works out well I'll continue on but I'll make a secondary character from the grimorie template. I'm still open to suggestions, and hoping these two idea's work out; thank you for the welcome.

Ok. So a mercenary, eh? Are you going for a high tech or more conventional spin on this?

not to put to fine a point but I am doing a cross between slade and blood pool, so a fair bit of tech with the traditional sword play and abit of a smart mouth from time to time. I gave him a black and red costume, I really liked the look of the specialist archetype costume so I used that as my base and changed up a few things but not much.

Well, as long as your character isn't too close you'll be fine.

For starters, you may want to go dex/ego, and try out lightning reflexes plus bountiful chi resurgence with resurgent reiki advantage.

Other wise, I really like breakaway shot for the cool animation and if you need to put some distance between you and your target. The damage isn't bad either. I leveled a dual blades character to 40, but I can't comment on single blade.

I used to have shotgun on my munitions build, but I prefer SMG. Since single blade utilizes bleeds, the advantage for SMG that applies a bleed may work well.

I would definitely consider taking a lunge to close the distance between you and your target.

Otherwise, don't forget to have fun!

unfortunately its not working out as I'd hoped; the soldier looks promising but it won't let me use dual pistols it is stuck on the assault rifle; that personally has never been my style. I prefer sniper rifles if I have to use a rifle and pistols anytime else; more of an aesthetic thing really. I do however like the mercenary archetype for a character, background wise; deathstroke with a penchant for doing more good than harm maybe.

Well, that's why i said to go freeform - you can pick whatever powers suit your concept.
