Are there any programs for making videos of the game action that won't significantly slow down the game:confused:.

I'm looking at Hypercam but am unsure if I should use this.

Depends on your computer and the settings you run CO at, to be honest. I've had pretty decent success with fraps, but you may not.

You can also try the /demo_record function, though it may or may not be too complicated for your needs.

Yeah, it definitely depends on your system specs. What kind of CPU, RAM, and Video Card do you have?

As a long term FRAPS user I can say a big contributor to it not having a massive slowdown effect is saving the movies to a different hard drive than your boot hard drive.

I have a little 250 gig drive in my computer I use just for that.

Well, the long and short of it is that any video capture has HUGE overhead. Fraps does combat this some by not compressing any of it as it captures (meaning you have to do the compressing yourself). I would look into our demo_record function (Check the wiki for specifics). But any high resolution capture is going to crawl like a snail. I recommend turning down your resolution first, this helps immensely.

Also what helps for FRAPS is if you defrag whatever hardrive you save to regularly. When you record using FRAPS, you'll have to use another video editing program like... *GASPS* Windows Movie Makers to compress the video, otherwise you'll end up with a 4 gig video that's 30 seconds long.

And since the vides are uncompressed when they're made, if you are recording to a different hardrive, make sure it has like... 40+ gigs free. Because FRAPS likes to make a lot of 4 gig little video files, as 4gig is the automatic cut-off spot.

With the demo record, you will need a 3rd party program like FRAPs to make a video. Also, I would recommend checking out Brou's sticky on this forum to learn more about demo record. I don't think we have any extra details on using demo's on the wiki.

When I was doing videos with the music system in LoTRO, I usually recorded everything on Ultra settings with WeGame without any real issue, but I also stayed on lower resolutions. FRAPS is good too as already mentioned, too.

Those are the only two I've used, and I have no idea if WeGame is any good these days since I haven't used it in ages, but it might be worth considering. I think it's still free. :)

I too recommend FRAPS. I've been using it for years and I quite like it. The demo_record feature is nice and I'm still getting used to it. I've been using Ulead Video Studio for editing the FRAPS videos(although after I finish the video I am currently working on, I am going to try out Lightworks(I like its features and its free), but if I need to do some frame by frame editing, I use GIMP as well as Anime Studio Pro.

VirtualDub is a quick, easy, and free video editor that works well with FRAPS video.

That is my tool of choice for encoding and compressing video :)

    I use the DivX Codecs.
