Hello forums! I was one of the testers who played in the closed beta of this game. I didn't like it so much then, so I didn't bother subscribing after it was released, but now I'm back in action and ready to make some crazy characters!
So, how much has changed since day 0? I heard there was a gigantic and terrible day 1 patch which completely knocked everything off balance. I don't care so much if everything's unbalanced (i'm only here for the mix 'n' match powersets, really) but it'd be nice to know what's effective and what's not!
e: Just to make things clear...
I'm a big fan of That Other Superhero Game. I've heard (not just from their forums) that CO is terribly balanced and buggy, and my personal experiences in beta showed me that this game was really rough and buggy.
So... Sell me on this game! Convince me to stay! Tell me how wonderful you all are, what a great community I'm entering, that this game dispenses free candy, that Paragon Studios are secretly members of white supremacist groups, whatever... just tell me you've shined up your rough diamond. Please?

You mention "buggy" behavior, but in my experience (and I play every day) ...the game has never crashed or failed me ever. Not once in months of playing. I think I've only hit one mission that didn't work for me and that was ages ago.
It's funny how you would take what people posted at the Other Game forum as gospel. I doubt they were bias at all (ha!!). It would be no different than asking people here about that game.
And you probably won't get too many positive replies only because the people all loving the game tend to be playing it and not complaining here (generally).
To me the powersets are really fun and fairly well matched. You can create some amazing combos that are better than others of course, but that's the nature of it. In PvP people complain the most about balance, but from what I've seen and experienced...nobody ever factors in player skill and other variables (IP speed, key binds, etc, etc) that could factor into being outplayed. The easy solution most people reach for is X-power is too strong or weak. I did a PvP the other day and my opponent end up quitting because I was OP or I didn't "play fair" and all I did was hover like 20 feet up in a single spot and shoot ranged. I guess I was supposed to be on the ground to let him attack me easier. You get the idea.
New zone : Vibora Bay for lvl's 37+
New power sets : Celestial, Supernatural was split into Infernal Supernatural and Bestial Supernatural.
Melee powers have been completely reworked and are far far better than they were. Several other sets have been rebalanced. Pets are being improved and on the PTS now.
Adventure packs : Serpents Lantern is here and Demonflame should be out next month are instances story arcs that are supposed to last 3-4 hours each.
Difficulty Slider has been added for more challenges.
I sent you PM with a Friend Referral key, so you can check out some of the changes yourself (and get a Sapphire Action Figure to boot!)
And, in case you missed it, both Steam and Direct2Drive have CO on sale for only $6 (get the Steam one, it comes with 2 devices and a Steampunk Action Figure). It comes with 30 free days, so it's pretty risk free!
Enjoy!
Of course, the last time I played was in closed beta, so I know it won't be so buggy nowadays. Good to know it's working well, though!
Oh, I've heard from all kinds of people, not just Other Game. But hey, I'd rather judge for myself, which is why I signed back up!
Thanks for the gesture! Unfortunately... I already brought the game on Steam before I posted here. I'm enjoying my Steampunk guy though
Good attitude!
Welcome back, mate. I'm sure you will find a lot of changes (Too many to list them all).
New content, revamped frameworks...Might is an "Uber" framework these days. Take Unstoppable as a Passive and punch your way to victory!
The major story arcs are huge fun, imo. Like V-Bay is good stuff. Your best bet is to get out there and hit the streets, but if ya have any questions in game, just ask in Zone Chat because we have a pretty helpful crowd here. Also, people do enjoy teaming so don't be afraid to ask folks.
So I decided to dive right in without reading any guides, and made my first character, Law, going with a combination of Celestial and Single Sword powers, and so far I've hit level 12. I ran through the tutorial (nice to see people aren't swimming around on land any more) and picked Canada as my first area. So far it's been fun, and I've been kicking a fair amount of booty as I go. Everything seems pretty balanced so far, with a refreshing lack of bugs. It's nice to see I can play a melee/healer combo without being too gimped.
Zone chat is full of idiots.
I've got a few quibbles, though - mostly the animations, which all look incredibly floaty and weightless. The graphics are pretty bad too (Plastecine Man, Go!), but I'm playing on a laptop so that's understandable.
Also I'm having a really hard time coming up with a character - in Other Game, when I have a concept idea, I can normally pick his powers reasonably fast, but here it's actually too freeform for me. I guess I'll adapt after a while.
Glad that allin all ya having fun. As far as "Too Freeform" I just can't comprehend that!
Yeah, Zone Chat is usually not bad, but ya do get periods where children think they are uber-cool cause their parents aren't watching. Not generally a problem, but I've shut it off before, and my ignore list has more then just a few folks on it.
Yeah same here. The people I ignore are pure jerks, idiots, or just plain out freaky.
Haha. I guess it's just the way the powers are structured - I have to go 'well do I pick claws or swords or holy beams or demonic energy or little sonic blaster thingies or what?' at the start.
