Another recent refugee from Paragon City/the Rouge Isles/etc. here, played the game since 2004 off and on before this last "expansion" finally and irreversibly soured me on it. My reasons for permanently leaving are long and varied, and I have written tl;dr rants about them elsewhere. (The guy I came with summed them up pretty well here if you're mildly curious) But it's over and done with, and after un-subscribing decided to give CO a try.

And now we both are kicking ourselves for not having checked it out sooner. I can finally create a character based on a concept I think would be fun to play rather than "Gee, will this combination of powersets let me survive a battle with greys?" I can finally enjoy actual strategic battles rather than pretending "Hit 1-2-3-4-5 POP AN INSPRATION!" is 'strategy'. I can actually shape the face of my character rather than hoping an extremely dated texture over a basic mesh will not look too horrid. I can travel all over the world righting wrongs and fighting villains threatening Our Life As We Know It instead of taking the A-train downtown to beat up more superpowered gangbangers. And last but not least, I can actually play a superhero and not just a game character in CG spandex.

Yes, so very glad to be here.

    Welcome :)

You'll find quite a few CoX refugees here. Some play both. Leaving CoX was a wrench for me after spending so long there but I didn't like the direction things seemed to be going.

CO was a bit of a dog around release but it's improved out of sight, still has a long way to go though. One thing we lack is a 'universal meeting place' like under the Atlas statue in CoH...maybe one day :)

Definitely agree on the direction thing. I was so fannishly devoted to the game up until this point that I might as well have been counted among the 'Kool-Aid drinkers', but Going Rogue was a wake-up call for me. It wasn't bad content-wise, but I felt it had no place in a superhero/supervillain game. IMO it should have been a different game altogether.

But what the writing on the wall said to me after this was that promises that were made previously didn't matter in lieu of churning out new game content without improving the quality of what's already there or even just making sure what they added didn't break the game. Heroside is in need of massive revamping, villainside needs hazard zones and more than just 6 zones (having the ability to turn your villain into a rogue and play hero content is not a real fix for this issue) and still no endgame in sight or even acknowledgement that the game is in dire need of it. Perhaps I'm being cynical, but given NCSoft's track record, I doubt there ever will be. I fully expect that the players currently enamoured with Praetoria right now are going to want more Praetoria content later on, but it will be their turn to get shafted when those zones are inevitably neglected for the next shiny new idea Paragon Studios decides to throw into the hodgepodge. It's another eventual ghost town in the making.

CO isn't perfect, but I've rediscovered the fun that CoX used to have but was leeched out after Going Rogue. It's not what the game added that did this. It's what it promised to add (GR was supposed to add endgame, not another instance of "Just roll another alt!") but didn't. CO just feels more like I'm playing a superhero rather than grinding through the same 3 instance missions ad nauseum.

Welcome! yeah, I played CoX for quite some time and CO was like a breath of fresh air. The whole idea of concept taken to this level is totally awesome!

I left CoX for CO and never looked back!

I love CoX, (that's what she said) but CO beat it out of me. I tried going rogue but I kept trying to block big hits and charge attacks. When CO has 30% more content I will flat out say it is a better game. Right now, it wins for me, but that is considering I've done everything in CoX several times - I have 15 or so level 50s.

    Welcome!

    Welcome!

Lol...I do this in other games now as well. You can block-ish in AoC, but like WoW, PotBS, or the like...no dice! Yeah, I am constantly activating and cancelling subs for other MMOs. The only one I have been playing steady is CO. Its that much fun!
