Hey there folks. My style of creating heroes is usually pretty minimalistic, and mostly stick to a tights super hero style.
Browsing through peoples' costumes, I notice that a lot of people like putting big and flashy pieces all over their characters. It's a very different style than mine, and it got me to wondering. How would that person have designed my character?
So here it is, how would you have designed Offender? Do him up in any style that you want (preferably with the same colors, but anything goes, I guess) and post your screenshots. If nobody posts here, I will be Offended. Wait, scratch that, if no one posts here, I will Offend all of you!
If anyone wants, I'll also take a crack at one of your characters and show you how I would make them in my stile. Get Offended!

If you have no idea what I'm talking about just ignore me and move on...
That reminds me, though, I've only gotten past half of the first Phoenix Wright. I gotta get off my butt and finish those games; they're great and make me feel smart!
A Trials and Tribulations reference.
By a Dev.
I don't know whether to be shocked or amazed.
Why? Cryptic is staffed by gamers, we all knew that.
I'll come up with something for you tomorrow, Smack.
Did you ever get to see the Kid Rune costume I made inspired by your own kid costume slot?:D
Gotta say I agree ... the solid pants would be more iconic.
Wanna share the costume file, Smack?
Since I know nothing about the character as far as story, etc. I can go only based on what I'm seeing in front of me... I took him as a wise-**** orange and black counterpart to Defender.
Here's how I would have done him based on your overall theme:
@Rune: No, I don't think I ever saw that. I haven't visited the forums in a long while, so if you posted it I may have missed it. Go ahead and post it up here!
@Adogg: What do you mean by more iconic? Costume posted below!
@DraX3D: Offender doesn't have much of a background. He's terribly mysterious like The Sphynx. The orange and black decision is actually because they are the direct opposite colors on the color wheel. The following link shows a screenshot of Offender and Defender, and then with the colors reversed:
http://imagehosting.smackwell.com/champions/offenderdefendercolors.jpg
As far as his backstory, check the link below to see what I have written about him (the image was made for a bit of a contest held by Maglama).

What kinda sucks (for me) is that I'm not a big fan of the whole "anti-hero" thing, but Offender got labeled as that because of his background.
I dig the costume you made. I expected more kitchen sink type stuff! I really like how you made him all evil looking with the eyes, and how he's a bit of a mix of current Offender and Defender. Oh, and yes, he's a bit of a smart-****, but that just comes from my own personality.
@SweetNausea: HAR at the Doritos comment! Haha, never even thought of that. I picked something that represented nothing at all, just kinda looked cool. Because I don't think anything really represents Offender, and even the big O on his back I think is silly. Oh and thanks for the backup on the leg stripes! Still, I think I'll give a whirl to the plain legs.
@Leatherhead: No, he's not an alternate universe Defender, he's just a guy that has an irrational hatred for Defender (which, story-wise, I haven't even figured out yet). But yes, he is a jerk, but with a need to be a do-gooder (as seen by the dossier).
Thanks for all the feedback, guys! I really didn't expect that much positive feedback on the costume, but it's a very nice surprise. I look forward to seeing your remakes, and would love to do some remakes of your characters as well!
Personally I really like it as-is, there's nothing wrong with taking a minimalist approach. (I've done it on a couple characters - heck, Argentos, one of mine, has a surprisingly similar look to Offender <@.@> - tights, thruster backpack, bracers and boots.)
That said... I love mucking with existing stuff... Understandably I have to give this a try <,<
I decided to go for an "Offender, The Alternate Continuity Movie" approach. Ie: Keep some of the basics, swap others around, and generally speaking, bling it up.

Here's a FightClub file (yes, they are called FightClub files... interesting things you find when you crack something open in HEX Editors) that's been modified to fit the scale of yours along with some Color variations.. feel free to use it for whatever.
And feel free to ask me how I got it to show up with the fancy name in the Editor
I may have cheated a little bit.
HAX TO THE MAX.
THERE IS NO SCALE TO MEASURE THE AMOUNT THAT YOU HAVE ANGERED ME! I SPENT HOURS LOOKING FOR THOSE PIECES ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT-- AAAAAGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
<The following is me acting like a ten year old girl>
OOoooooh do one with the helmet!!!
</end middle school girl enthusiasm that I am embarrassed of completely!>
That is some awesomeness of biblical proportions.
@mistformsquirrel: Sweet! I like the slate colored additions. Feels like a Mad Max world Offender. I think I could have done without the subligar, but otherwise very cool.
Also very interesting that you and DraX3D used the same tights pattern (the pads) on your versions.
@DraX3D: No worries, I'm very well versed on hacking stuff up with hex editors. I was actually the very first person to edit the Unlimited Adventures character icons for the Mac! Plenty of users had written editing programs for the PC to edit the Player Characters, but us Mac heads had nothin (us being 4% of the market back then). I poked around some files, and noticed that in the files for a lot of the graphics used in game, you could actually see the picture in hexadecimal format (for instance, the transparency was FF, while the shaft of an arrow was 1A or something... I actually got it to a point where paging down and up would get the image to "animate" by going from one frame to the next, all in hexadecimal like it was the matrix! Ha anyways, to cut a very long and stupid story short, I've seen the Fight Club name and I'm guessing it was an internal developer code name for the game (or game engine).
All that wall of text said, I tried to edit the text part of the .jpg file to make one of my character's heads 10.0 and load the costume that way, but no dice. Boohoo for disallowing giant heads!
RIIIGHT?! It's like winning the random post lottery!
Just a little? LOL
I've been trying to all hell to write up an editor for the FightClub files... but it's a massive, massive, massive PITA!
Oh well.
Offender! Like Defender, but darker and edgier, literally.
Now, you do me!
The Incredible Turtle
Hehehe <^-^> Yeah, the subligar is something I was iffy on; but I went with it on the basis that it felt a bit 'off' without it... I spend waaaaay too much time in the character creator as-is though so I didn't want to spend hours and hours like I sometimes do hehehe
And yeah, the pads just work out really nice; they're one of my favorite details/patterns to use; though they sometimes look funky if you aren't careful with your colors >.< but that's just a matter of fiddling around with it. Glad you liked it overall hehe <^-^>b
@Watchguard: Very cool, reminds me of his original costume! I'll take a crack at yours tonight, but he's already pretty minimal!
@FlyingFinn: Laughed my **** off! From the thumbnail I thought "Oh cool, a big power armor version." Not so much, haha.
@mistformsquirrel: Yeah that's actually a pattern I haven't used very often at all. Hell I'm not sure if I even have used it!
But I never used him cause I don't find Power Armour that interesting. My one PA guy has the theme of having broken PA so most of his attacks are actually Electric attacks (Chain Lightening from concussor beams, Arc Lightning for Eye Beams and Gigabolt for the Chest beam).
So yeah, Defend-Ant never really did get to see the light of day...
Offender is all about not hurting the bad guys, and being a role model. The opposite of that would be a guy who you dont really know is there and kills bad guys. He feels uncomfortable in the lime light if it ever were to find him.
Thoughts?
Defend-Ant... Priceless! Offender started Power Armor, too, but I ditched it because it felt it was too much about DoT, and that's just not a playstyle I can get with, so I switched him to Force. Turned out Force is something I can really get with.
Did you mean Defender in the highlighted part? Because Offender likes to hurt bad guys, a lot. The second part pretty much sums up how Offender is; in his Dossier I wrote that he's pretty much a loner, doesn't like people at all, but has a compulsion for exacting justice. He would definitely feel off in the limelight due to his dislike of people.
I don't actually know much about Punisher other than he's a vigilante with guns.
If you would like to redo one of mine, feel free to do any you like, but if you fancy a challenge, try Pun-1-sher, as he is the complete opposite of your normal designs. His name sucks and I am changing it, but he is an undead scientist and gadgeteer who creates Frankenstein type minions to assist him, aka zombies. He is slightly unhinged after being killed when his lab exploded during a DEMON raid. His body was saturated in chemicals he was developing to allow tissue to regenerate and thus it was partially able to reconstruct itself. Shortly after his burial, his once dead body crawled to the surface and using components from his ruined lab he created new cybernetic parts and equipment which he uses to fight DEMON and anyone else he deems evil . He is a homage to the Joker, but a hero of sorts, who was originally going to be a nemesis, but I liked him too much so I made him a hero I have attached his file. I can't supply a costume file as I used a pre-order hat only available in the UK. Here are some images:
Offender
Alternative Offender
Pun-1-sher Front
Pun-!-sher Back
Oh my Jesus, that guy is the very opposite of something I would have done! That's quite the challenge!
Is there still a way to look at other people's characters? I used to search people's @handles on the Champedia, but it looks like they took that feature out.
I do like the second version of the costume a lot better. I like how you used the metal costume pieces to break up the colors. Pretty cool. Thanks for taking a crack at him!
LOL, that's why I suggested him He is quite a challenge and some of the bits are not obvious, particularly his face as I coloured part of his hair white so it blends in with his skin and face paint. I just added extra images of all 3 toons for clarity. I agree, I prefer the second version of Offender as it highlights the gloves and boots better, but I did the first one as it is closer to the original.
Sadly it appears they did remove the Champedia option for searching by account name, not sure why. But type these into Champedia if you like:
Witchfinder
Cervando
Khanage
Albion
Tetsu Tengu, it means Iron Bird Spirit in Japanese, as tengu are crow-like spirits
Luc Garou and yes I created him well before Vibora Bay, in fact 2 years earlier
Horrnet, yes double R, thanks to Cryptic for not allowing my closed beta name
Mariana
Ghettoblaster, love that name its so obvious I can't believe it wasn't used before I created him for PnP Champions 20 years ago.
Gin-Chi, aka Silver Spirit
British Bulldog, he's very much your style anyhow
i-Bot, name will be changed as I intend to use him for events and change his look accordingly, thus one slot is a robo santa look. The current one is one that one won of Adoggs contests.
Brainhertz, terrible pun. Looks amazing when energy form on as he seems to be a glowing skeleton
Sergeant Steel
Suul Yinn and Electrica are my daughter's toons.
Most have bios too. Note many are stripped of powers awaiting melee changes and/or free retcon being issued
Finally a recoloured version of Offender, switching the boot and glove colours around ,which I think looks far better despite being less faithful to the source.
Offender 1.2
I like your version better since it' more unique.
There is still a way to do it though.
Type or paste this link in, and then simply replace Rune with another account name.

@Butston: Offender was orginally my best copy of Defender's armor, and it looked very close to what you made.
@Rune: You are the man. Word.
You can't tell me you didn't already know this.
Attachment not found.
word
I tried stickin to his basics so it's more of an alternate costume than a modification
Offender
Attachment not found.
I think not.
Edit: No, that Defender isn't a toy, it's the real thing. Don't be stupid.
Rune: Very nice. I still actually have not created a character with the retro future stuff. Looks like I should have gotten the damn Euro pre-order!
megaerik: I like everything but the helmet! I'm a big fan of those bracers; I was kinda upset that I couldn't use them on females.
Juggsy: Not a huge fan of the orange head! Otherwise, it's pretty close to the original, it looks like, except for the body armor. Pretty cool.
DigitalShaman: Judging by your sig, it looks like we do think along the same lines. More power to less is more... power... !
Butston: By the way, I forgot to mention, I'm a big fan of Iron Mallard, the name and costume alike. Did you make him for Adogg's contest, or did you already have him?
My next post will have all your guys' hero recreations!
The Turtle: I made him a bit bulkier and gave him some jaw thing, because turtles have some powerful jaws, from what I hear. If we had a decent beak-type helmet option I would have used that. I tried to stick some turtley pieces on there with the shoulder and bracer. I wish we could put the shoulder pattern on the bracer!
Pun1sher: I like the freak type look I got out of him. I think the face fit him really well, and mixed with the hair, I think it got a good overall look. I kept the robotic right arm, but I didn't like how he looked with the robotic left leg, so I went for a mechanical looking thing, but with external armor. I think the backpack (steampunk back) finished it off pretty well. Oh, and the diamond pattern is an homage to the jester costume he wears.
It's the complete opposite of my view for him: A weak, pacifist engineer. I may steal that and use it as an alt costume :P
But I guess It would help if I posted a pic eh?
Hahaha that dude's a mess! His entire concept seems to revolve around him having junk on him, so I don't know how I'd slim him down... but I'll take that Pepsi challenge! Tomorrow! Maybe!
Edit: The character seemed very, very familiar to me, and after I posted this message, I know why. I've seen his crazy **** as your avatar for freaking months!
He is just an old hobo, who uses a bunch of gadgets he found in a junkyard one night.
Yeah he was my only avatar for the longest time. Perhaps I should get him done up as a better one.
I really like him! You did an amazing job with a difficult subject. I will most likely use it as an alt look, but I may change the shoulder pad as it seems a bit at odds with the rest. I had intended to use the retro pieces on him as they would fit perfectly. Thanks again, I enjoyed the challenge. Did you check out my makeover of my first design I posted?
Yeah, I think I would prefer the cowl without the midsection, but other than that it's cool.
Haha, I can't imagine Offender going around with that goofy voice.
