Name for female archer hero...

Ugh; I know I don't wanna be one of those people that rely heavily on other people's creativity, but my brain just can't seem to get its gears moving. I've been working over the concept of a Archery main hero. I had wanted her to be somehow related to the eternal essence of the hunt, either as some sort of native from "The Happy Hunting Grounds" or "Beastlands" (an homage to the old Planescape setting). I've tried looking up mythology and various thesaurus resources, trying to find words relating to hunting, stalking, archery, etc.

The only name that's sticking, so far, has been "Feather" which is an homage to the Black Company, sort of. However, I don't want the misconception of bird or winged themes. I want this character to use swinging as her primary travel, perhaps acrobatics down the road. (Mostly because I want to keep a quiver on her back instead of wings, since I cannot have both.)

Anyway, any help with names would be great. I don't really have a reward other than kudos. :) I just need something good enough to keep my interest and help enjoy the character most. :) Thanks!

Artemis would fit the concept, and Athena would work too. As would Amazon.

Are you thinking of it being her actual name or just her super hero handle?

More native style names could be like Feather Bow, Wind Hunter.

Or something not relating to hunting at all that has significant meaning in other ways. You were born and laid upon a homemade bed and the first thing you did was grab a handful of moss and stick it in your mouth as you were flailing around, from that day forth your parents named you Moss.

Divine. Mythological ancient Roman divinity Diana was noted for beauty and swiftness; often depicted as a huntress. Names derived from Diana are : Di, Diahann, Diahna, Diandra, Diane, Diannah, Dianne, Dyana, Dyann, Dyanna. Source : http://www.daystogo.com/baby-names/beauty.asp

You could also use names of predatory animals : wolf, cougar, fox, panther, eagle, etc...

Female archers always make me think of the Amazons. Lots of good names there. Here are a few:
    Aete 'mighty' or 'eagle'
    Andromache 'man fighter'
    Klymene 'famous might'
    Lykopis 'she wolf'
    Prothoe 'first in might'

Hmm, that's some good food for thought. Keep feeding me! :) Thank you for your suggestions.

There is one reason, however, that I won't choose Diana, and that's because it is Wonder Woman's name. A lot of her Amazon sisters had names of Greek goddesses. The bummer here is that I can think of a ton of MALE names, but I wanted to mix it up a bit, since I currently have one female and four male characters.

I'm not sure what animals befit an archery theme. A lot can fit the hunting theme, but it's tough envisioning such a beast using ranged attacks to kill. A melee character might better suggest such a creature. (I do plan on perhaps having Dual Blade or other Martial Art secondary powers for her to use.)

I suppose it is not impossible for her origins to be Native American in nature. Perhaps possessed/gifted by one of their mythological spirits. Of course, I hope to have it translated into a more modern look and scheme. The new "hunt" is to bring down the cunning and elusive criminal prey.

    *Groan* to "Bowtox" XD

I think "Shaftress" might be interpreted in less-than-glowing ways...

Still trying to hit the Name-Bullseye, as it were. No, not gonna use Bullseye. (It's taken and sounds male, anyway.) :)

Right now, the name "Sable" appeals to me. However, it is also the name of some WWE Diva, and I'm not sure how I feel about that yet.

Maybe a more archery oriented animal, like a bird...

I know! Robin! (oops... Scratch that...)

    Oh! Hawkwom... Ah nevermind....

    I like Sable....

Another name I've been considering is "Eden" which might fit a nature/plant theme, but on a more mystical flavor. I am not sure if archery fits, but it's closest thing to it, besides some sorcery powers. Picking up the plant costume set might make sense too. She would certainly have the concept of a protective spirit or chosen guardian of nature.

...In further pondering, I think saving "Eden" for her sister, perhaps, may be a better idea. Eden would focus on a shamanic theme, primarily Celestial powers with some Sorcery. Her sister (the Archery hero) would embody the hunter, predator, and fierceness of nature, while Eden is the protective, nurturing, and invigorating side. However, I really want to use the Ravenbeak Eye Accessory costume piece as part of the outfit, so...still trying to make it all tie together.

And so, after all this trouble, I decided to just go with "Bird of Prey" and see how it goes. Thanks for everyone's suggestions!

Artemis , as another player suggested, would be a good name for her. Artemis was the Greek Goddess of the hunt, wild animals, wilderness, childbirth, virginity, fertility, young girls and disease in women. She was often depcited as carrying a bow and arrows. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemis

    The Boyer
    The Boyeress
    Longbow
    Ballista
    Popinjay
    Popingo

I like Artemis, but you could go with Selene, Dianna, Artume, or Hecate too.

Eve. Eve and Eden would be great names for a pair of sisters.
    Edit: whoops, I'm too late.

But mostly I'm posting because I wanted to share my rage that my best female archer name is prohibited by the editor. Marksman Girl.
