Selecting targets in shooter controls

Is there a way to set up my controls so that when I click an object while using shooter controls it will make it my target, including friendlies? Right now the only way I can find to select something is with tab or ctr+tab, but I would prefer just clicking whatever is highlighted inside my cross hair.
