One that actually works. The free camera option in the controls has no functionality, i want the free camera option to work how it does in every other MMO ive played I.E. when im flying or running or whatever, if i turn the camera to look at something then release it it would stay looking the direction it was and not snap back to the follow position. I have tried every option people have stated here in the forums and tried all the commands ingame and there is no fix, there are multiple posts about this issue and no one has come up with a way to make this work properly.
Is this beyond the controls of the game, alot of people want this option, please impliment a fix for this.

There is an option underneath that says auto-face forward.

    Turn that off.

that doesnt do anything to the best of my knowledge, it deffinitly doesnt stop the camera from snapping back to the follow position

I've been fighting this. Trying to get a side or front view of my character in action is nearly impossible. Even with alternate screenshot buttons binded, I keep losing control of the view as it auto-snaps back. I do screenshots all the time -- I turn them into comic covers, but find myself unable to do action shots because of this, save for a few flybys.:(

When I look at the screenshots posted on the CO website, I have to wonder -- WERE they taken durning gameplay or not, or were special tools employed?

For the Free Camera to work well, there's other options you need to turn off in addition to setting the drop-down one, such as 'face off-screen targets' etc. If you do not turn some of the these, for example, the camera may still try to set a perspective to any object you have targeted.

The only other time I think the camera will still move is if you get close to a wall and try to see from the wall point of view, because that's too close the camera will try to shift.

I'm assuming you want to free swivel the camera around while moving and not have to have it snap back.

There is an option in the OPTIONS section to enable what you're looking for. Under the tab for key assignment, you will find "Toggle Mouse Look" or "Toggle Free Look" or whatever. Both settings are blanked by default. I assigned my fourth and fifth mouse buttons respectively and now when I toggle "Free Look" I can swivel around and not have the camera snap back to rear. Fifth mouse button now makes my avatar orient without having to hold right mouse button down. Another click toggles the respective control off and snaps back to center.

Note: When either of these modes are active, your cursor become unavailable.

Although my reasons are a bit more different. Since Tab targetting seems to be a bit wonky right now (sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't - my new keyboard is about to become cannon fodder lol), I tend to try and use the mouse to target. This is immensely 'fun' when the mobs are behind or to the side of me, or just a bit off screen; Turn the view and before you can click on the mob, it snaps back. My only option right now to get those types of mobs are to move backwards while having shields up and then target them with the mouse. Very annoying.

Will try the suggestion about on mouse toggles though. Maybe that will work.

Was playing with a whole bunch of the control options last night including turning the auto face forward option off, the face target option off and one or two others, and can confirm it's much more "screenshot friendly" now. The only weird side effect I have is that flying upwards using the space bar, rather than using forwards and rotating the pitch all the way up seems to make my character fly horizontally chest first up instead of head first (imagine the jet boots style of flight before tier 3 kicks in, and then imagine that flight pose rotated round by 90 degrees).

Very odd.. but I'm pleased nonetheless! Will have a go at posting some SS's on here tomorrow when I'm playing next
