Hey all,
Is there any news of CO turning into a comic book? Wow,Gears of War,Starcraft, just to name a few, have been made into comic books. I'm just curious if CO would become one. I for one would love it. I think the characters and story line are pretty bad ars. Just wondering if anyone may have heard anything ^^.

I actually have some of these :) If you can find them I wish you luck, the early ones gave a nice insight into the original characters.

    From Wikipedia:
Starting in June 1986, a comic mini-series was published by Eclipse Comics based on characters from the first Champions campaign. After the initial mini-series a regular series was published by Hero Comics (later Hero Graphics, later still Heroic Publishing). Like the Villains and Vigilantes comic mini-series, the early issues printed character sheets which allowed readers to incorporate characters used in the comic books in their own Champions campaigns. Heroic Publishing still prints comics about some of the characters in 2007, although they have long since parted ways with the makers of the game.

Currently Marvel owns the rights to the name "The Champions" so it may be hard for CO to put out a comic based on the Hero Games franchise.

I truely do hope that they are going to do so. a move like that would be great, it will build a better fan base.
But for now i think they have all moneys tied up in the game itself. I the game continues to grow, Im sure we will see comics, action figs t-shirts ect. ^___^

I'd call it unlikely for a couple of reasons. Reason #1 is that CO is no Starcraft or WoW, it would need a player base of millions for a comic book to make sense, and it doesn't have that. Reason #2 is that the comic-book rights for 'Champions' are owned by Heroic Publications (most other rights were owned by Hero Games, which sold them to Cryptic, but for historical reasons the rights were split in the late 80s). Heroic could probably be bought out, but given reason #1 I see little reason for Cryptic/Atari to bother.

Shame really, but this even apply for some sort of web pdf comic like they did with CoH or even collecting ingame readable comics like the toys system?

There is a optional VIPER-related perk that has you glancing through some of their comics inhouse. It's dreadful - they get the flow of events wrong, and they screw up the names of half a dozen famous superheroes and superheroing organizations. Who's their comic writer? I want to pulp him into the ground!!

Laugh. Totally wrong. Marvel tried to put out a Champions book a few years back and got slapped down by Heroic Publications (Marvel eventually published the book as The Order).

As for web or pdf comics, probably the same issue exists. Note, however, that Cryptic is free to use Defender, Ironclad, etc, in a comic book as long as they don't call the comic the Champions, all of the problem characters were excised from the RPG IP long ago.
