I had about 300g from leveling / unity missions. I bought dozens of blue items, broke them down, and got a total of 5 pulson particles. I would guess I broke 40 items.
They are selling for 18 gold each on the market. I have received a total of 7 (including the above) while playing this character, and spending all money to try to break items to get any more.
Ever think that maybe we're not supposed to be able to completely trick out our toons in elite gear? Maybe it's supposed to be hard to get these items because they want us to keep playing/paying?
Are you gimp w/o this gear? I doubt it.
Usually I am on the other side of this debate, however I've seen what easy to get gear did to CoH, and am glad they are making it harder here.
Hard is accomplishable after a sane investment of effort for the reward, and is something that might be accomplished in a day to a couple of days hard work. It should not be something that just flatly puts you off as not worth the time / effort / investment.

The items that require those stupid amounts of mats are usually costume unlocks with aweful stats. Ever think that spending hours and hours to unlock a costume piece called "cloak of stars" to get a long skirt is a slight annoyance? The stats are useless, descriptions of costume unlocks are backwards, worst thing of all, you dont figure any of this out until you already wasted days of work.

I would agree with this if the 78 pulson particle items served a purpose other than costumes. The devs are just being dicks about the whole crafting system.
778 is really not that hard to get ... i allmost have enugh to make my 2nd 78 pulson unlock. brake down primary purples. i've gotten 20+ pulsons from some

So the real question is where are you getting all these purples from? And how?
After leveling 4 toons to 20 and 1 to level 40, I have recieved a total of two purples ever.

Sadly the item in question i know and it is far from being elite.. it rather sucks stats wise and is only good for a costume peice.. which 78 is a ludcrious number for the stats this item actually gives.
There is no difference in difficulty between getting seven and seventy. None. The only factors are time and frequency of drop. A low yield rate of a material means that efforts put into retrieving them gives only limited results. The lower the drop rate, the higher the statistical likelihood that some people, through no fault of their own, do not get the materials needed.
Those players are not complaining about difficulty, they are complaining about poor math and design. Buying a recipe that is prohibitively expensive in time and material, and has no ready means of showing what art it unlocks, is not only a frustrating experience for customers who don't have the in-game currency to buy it at auction or the raw time to grind farming, it's bad for the game. Customers who spend a great deal of time and effort with little to show for it, are not customers for much longer.
Cryptic, fortunately, appears aware and are reviewing the costs for these items.

I guess we have to find some magical fountain of purples to break down and pray we get rares from them.
