I am a long time crafter, something I always try to do in an MMO, and one thing that is baffling me right now, especially since there is a place ont he market for devices, is why the devices, as they currently stand, are all Bind on Pickup? That makes no sense. I mean I could be putting more of these items up for sell from jsut having made them and such, but I can't because they are BoP.
The same goes for world drop devices to. I understnad a few but every last one of them? Come on, I could care less about a Lemruian Idol device and never use em, but I am certain someone out there loves these toys, and I would rather put them up for resell. So can we remove the BoP nature of devices, that aren't mission specific at least, from these items because it's a bit daunting and silly, to be honest, that every last device we get, that isn't a heal patch, is bind on pickup, making crafting somewhat lower than desired.
yeah, i don't like the BOP craftables either. part of the reason i spent so much time maxing out my crafting was so i could make cool stuff for my supergroup members, but some of the most fun stuff i can make they can't use
I'd think of it as somewhat of a perk for being that proffession, able to use rare devices exclusive to you. As for everyone else, it promots them to not be lazy and raise their own crafting skill so they to can have access to exclusive devices.
I do, however, agree that not /every/ device should be BoP. Some should be tradable between the masses while reserving a few 'totally awesome' ones exclusive to each profession and specialization

It's not "being lazy". Some people just don't like crafting. Just as some people don't like PvP or raiding.
Non PvPers aren't able to access PvP-exclusive items. Non raiders don't get items purchased by raiding. Non crafters shouldn't be able to get profession-exclusive items. Maybe lazy was too offensive a word for you, but if you don't put in the time, don't expect the same benefits.

Your approximation doesn't work, because a non-PvPer can earn PvP items without being a hardcore PvPer. In fact, a non-crafter can have the best gear crafted for them, so why are devices, which would be a very equittable item on the market no less, unable to be crafted for others? If I can make someone a Twe Kwon Leap upgrade, no problem, why can't I make them a grenade to use as well?
There needs to be a trade-off somewhere. Something has to be exclusive to each particular crafter. If you're able to make everyone cool devices to use then there need to be some pieces of equipment that are BoP. As it stands now (that I've seen) all the equipment is BoE so it justifies devices being BoP. Working at increasing and mastering a profession with no exclusive benefits is not appealing whatsoever. I personally would rather have some equipment labeled exclusive and allow myself to give away devices to the universe; Cryptic just didn't design it that way. They chose to make devices the profession perk.

There is no justification for it. All it really does is put a damper on crafting. Yea I can create gear, but majority of the time that's one shot, the constantly reusable stuff, like devices, should never, ever be BoP unless it is a very specific must know item, like you gotta know science in order to tune that frequency jammer just right, otherwise making a grenade BoP is just silly.
There is plenty that makes the crafts desirable, locking out something crafters can do to generate income, however, is something that should be discouraged, not encouraged. And that is simply appalling that someone would believe that making upgrade sis okay, and a fair trade off but making devices for others is not. They are both one in the same.

Exactly. And since its not required for anything you don't have to do it. But for those who do want to put some effort into levleing they can gain access to a nice BoP reward.

I have yet to max out crafting (being only 21), but there should always be BoP and BoE items at the end game so that it is worth your time to level crafting, and to provide goods for people who don't have time to level or gather ingredianta (or leveled a different profession).

It seems to be a balance issue that they would do that with devices (since devices are pretty much Powers in and of themselves). Not arguing whether they should or should not be BoP - requesting some things that are BoP to be made BoE seems like a valid request but I Hope they check what it would do to balance (at this point I doubt they'd even consider it - they kind of have enough to deal with already). I would honestly prefer a number of BoP's in a crafting set just to make raising crafting more than just income and without BoP's you could just get everything from someone who already maxxed crafting.

Definition of a nice BoP reward is highly suspect as, currently, I wouldn't call all these devices that are useless BoP, justifiable rewards for leveling up a craft. Especially since it seems, as of right now, Arms has very little blueprints compared to the other crafts in any of these special reward drops. I got a bank full of the other two crafts for high end blueprints, and of all our 40s and market searches, no one has found a 300+ blueprint for Arms.
This isn't a reward for temporary usables either. Hell the only worthwhile one, is the science one. Now that is horribly skewed.

The problem is there is no real reason to even level up a craft for the devices. The devices, for the most part, are whimsical little additions, but not worth 400 points worth of investment. The only one, is the damage buff one from science. Mostly go after a craft for gear to boost stats that you feel would suit you or for the munchkins. And that's all well and good, but why is everything from upgrades BoE, but none of the devices except the hell and shield variety BoE? Sorry to say, but a 2800 point shield or 5000 point heal is more valuable to me than a bomb that does something like 500 points of damage.
Do people every by crafted items on the Market? There are loads up at silly prices...but I'm just not convinced anything sells.
Yes. I've made over 400G from teh market alone, but thena gian I don't try to sell things like base components for 40G for a single item. I actually put prices up that are well past reasonable.
Most, if not all, of the devices have charges AND level requirements. So, there is no reason to keep them BoP. They get USED UP eventually.
Items that have a use for X seconds then a 5 - 15 minute plus cooldown could either stay BoP or go BoE. The cooldown keeps itf from being over-powered.
I keep my last pack as my SWAP pack. It contains items with timers, power replacement, various buff/debuffs, and high stats. So, when I need one for a particular encounter, I swap it out. Most of these items started out as BoE, as well.
The idea of passing on items to alts or SG mates should be promoted, not restricted.

Good point, but is it totally necessary?
As another poster said, I personally maxed my crafting at the thought I would be able to benefit my SG's members...of all levels.
Aside from a couple of tradeable consumables and P/Rs, all of my devices are BoP.
In a game without much limitation, isn't this kind of limiting?
