Any use trying to ger purples?

Should a casual player try to grind for purples? Should I just get blues and chill. The grind seems hillariously high for the medicorce, at best, stats that the purple items give.

Is that because the level cap is going to be raised? Because these uber items are well, not uber at all.

I need help here..
