I started this game about a month back and was enjoying the ride, even with some of the power nerfing, the full respecs, and despite it all my game groove wasnt quite killed. However I also enjoy crafting. I have since PNP RPG days liking to be a wizard who made my own magic items raher then depend on fickle DMs to give me the those I favored. Ive been on many MMO and some have good crafting and some bad. for both its usually about the time of gathering Mats and lvling the craft skill. My initial impression of CO crafting was very good, I enjoyed how it seemed like it didnt matter which I chose, I took the one that fit my characters concept and would be able to craft some useful consumables and after 20 I could make some decent items customized with my favored stats. All this seemed fine to me and when the patch came fixing the so called BUG I logged in to find crafting a total waste of my time and effort. I at first tried to keep an open mind but it soon became clear that I could craft nothing of any use to the respective characters. Now I am forced to hoarde gear that have good stat mixes I might actually want to use on each character then mail swap them around as needed. Not to mention no currency compensation for all the enhancments I unlocked at the store. And all the mats I have stored are not even worth what they vendor for and few are wasting cash buying them on the AH now that we cant make crap.
Crafting should be fun, easy, and flexible. It should allow us a way to improve our characters without having to grind for a special Drop and be a true path to power for those who focus in it just as much as rushing to max your power lvl and min max your abilities. Honestly the last crafting I really enjoyed was in Vanguard where despite the rest of the games flaws gathering mats wasnt to much of a hassle at least at the earlier tiers, and you could make just about any kind of mods on your weapons and armor and it put your character name on it so you could actually make a name for yourself as a swordsmith etc. on this game its turned into a WTF is the point crafting system.

I would like to add something constructive to this but I just don't think anyone working on the system is listening.
It's not broken.......but its not very useful either, it's just a money sink.
The part of this that is the biggest tragedy (IMO) isnt the time and money lost, its the lack of really cool character concepts who are the self-made types. Comics have plenty of examples of this, and if we read the in-game lore, this was Guardian's background too.
My favorite character is a self-made hero as well, but he has to hunt for drops to get fleshed out. Its saddening, I agree.
Constructive ideas could be piled sky high, but the question remains: are the devs reading these posts, and what kind of feedback would be the most useful to them? The player base on these forums is currently a chaotic mess, but could be a valuable resource for testing, ideas, feedback, etc. All the devs need to do is play ball, and ask
