REVENANT Comic Teaser

I wanted to post something in the way of storyline so you will have an idea of what to expect, without giving away the entire plot or ruining any surprises. This is the screenplay/outline for the first five pages of issue #1. It introduces three of the main characters and sets the scene for the first half of the comic.

Special thanks to Mighty_pencil for the idea of a cameo appearance for the first page.

Note: I am not some hardass who just wants to show off his own costumes. I have been working very closely with those who have signed up for the project in order to utilize their feedback and suggestions and in some cases include their ideas and hopefully even some of their characters as well.

Also, I have begun adding some Wallpapers to the Extras section of the REVENANT site that feature not only characters from the comic, but those of the Actors as well, as sort of a small reward for their efforts.

    Title: Bugaboo

    Bugaboo - source of fear or annoyance: something that causes fear, annoyance, or trouble, especially an imagined threat or problem

    - Introduction with various images of Millennium City.

    Our unlikely Hero, while walking down a dark alley on the way back to his secret base of operations after a long night of patrolling the neighborhood, is confronted by a funny looking fellow in yellow spandex who comes up behind him unannounced and with a rubbery voice exclaims “Gimme your wallet, or you‘re gonna get it!”
    Not quite sure what to make of this strange looking assailant who oddly enough resembles a giant walking pencil, Revenant hesitantly checks his pocket and realizes that his wallet is missing. "I don't have my wallet with me." he replies, obviously annoyed and ready to respond violently to any threat.
    With a smirk, the Mighty Pencil whips something out of his own pocket. "Here ya go!" he says, and hands Rev a wallet before running off into the night, never to be seen again.
    What the…? Somewhat befuddled, Rev looks down at the wallet and instantly knows its his own because of the “Disbeliever” logo embossed into the leather. After a moment of silent contemplation, he comes to the conclusion that he must have dropped it somewhere along the way. The Mighty Pencil, only doing his civic duty as a Champion of epic proportions, saw fit to return it to him in a selfless, albeit bizarre manner without any thought of self gain or reward.
    “And they call me an unlikely Hero.” he says quietly to himself with a chuckle as he continues on towards his destination.

    Upon entering the secret base and switching on the lights, Rev is immediately aware of a strange sensation in the air surrounding him, like static from an electrical discharge.
    Guardian.
    With a thought he manages to bring up his Telekinetic Shield just in time to block the brunt of the Lightning blast. “Nice try, Dean!” he shouts over the noise of the dissipating attack. He and his Mentor, the defunct Champion known as Guardian, have been practicing defensive stances together for weeks. If he’d hesitated even for another second, he would now be laying on the floor in a fetal position unable to move for the duration of his mentors speech on keeping up ones guard at all times. And it would not be the first time.
    “You’re learning.” replies his friend, peeking his scruffy head around a corner. Dean Drake, a middle-aged man with a kind but sad face, is always smiling. But anyone who knows him knows that behind that smile hides torments the likes of which would have destroyed anyone without the strength and determination that were Guardians trade marked traits back in the days when he was a popular Champion.
    Rev considers confessing to being caught unawares outside in the alley moments ago, be decides to keep it to himself for the time being. “You done?” he asks with a slight note of irritation, slowly lowering his Shield. Stepping out from behind the corner, his mentor throws another short Lightning Blast at him, forcing him to raise the Shield again.
    Slightly impressed, Guardian allows the Lightning to dissipate and raises both hands to show that the lesson is over. “Now I am done.”

    “Hear about the Bugaboo?” interrupts Isabella Drake excitedly. Confident that she will not be the target of any electric or telekinetic attacks of any sort, the wholesome looking brunette walks up and embraces Rev, who is slightly surprised to see her.
    He glances over at Guardian as if to ask what’s she doing here? Then kisses her on the check. “Bugawho?”
    “Bugaboo.” As the overly concerned younger sister of Guardian and Rev’s longtime girlfriend, Isabella is never very far away from either of them. “People are talking about an invisible killer that’s stalking the streets, killing Rogue Qularr left over from the invasion.”
    Not one to put much faith in rumors, Rev attempts to avoid the suggestion he knows is coming . “I just came off the streets, and the only stalker I saw looked like a giant pencil.”
    Isabella and her brother Dean both look at him confusedly. “Huh?” they ask in unison.
    “Never mind.” Rev answers with a chuckle.

    After a quick discussion, Rev and Guardian don their costumes and prepare to go out and look for the so called Bugaboo. “So…are we going to investigate?” Isabella asks with a smile, implying that she is going with them.
    Rev and Guardian exchange a confused look. “We?!”
    Isabella is quick to point out that she brought the rumors to their attention in the first place. “Its my lead, why shouldn’t I be able to go along?” she asks, grabbing her bag and closing the door behind her.
    They both try to talk her out of it through the door. “Well, for starters, because there are killers and aliens and god only know what else out there.” replies Rev seriously.
    Her brother, ever the jokester adds “Bella, what are you going to do, berate them to death?” They both laugh out loud at that, but are speechless when she comes out of the bathroom dressed to kill in black leather body suit, with a compound bow and a quiver of wicked looking arrows slung over her shoulder.
    With one swift motion, she pulls an arrow from her quiver, notches it, and draws the string back. “If that’s what it at takes to make them get the point.” she answers with a equally wicked grin, and sends the deadly shaft sailing between them to stick into the block wall behind them. “And the name is Eclipse.”

    P.S. We still need more people “Actors” to play the parts listed on the site, so be sure to view the Actors Needed for CO Comic thread if you are interested in getting involved and/or helping out.

    Things are going very well so far and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Excellent twist to the end of the Pencil portion there, That isn't to say the whole thing isn't masterfully done.

    I must apologize for not being readily available, those damndable Toshiba specialists are taking thier sweet time on my one and only laptop that can handle Champions. If it doesn't come back in four days, they're going to regret taking it from me.:p

    I wanted to know, and i'm sure others do to, do you have your own cameraman for this? Or will you be expected us to get some of your angled shots for you? My computer isn't exactly a full settings monster, and I hope you have someone lined up for pictures who is a monster with settings.;)

    Yeah. I handle all the shooting. I can run with all settings on full with no problems. For the time being, all you gotta do is pose for the shots. Eventually, when we get to the complex scenes, like battles and such, it will take a little more organization, but that won't happen until we get Actors for all of the characters.

    We have been taking preliminary shots for the wallpapers and playing around with some ideas and will be posting some more stuff soon, so keep your eye on the REVENANT site.

    You know, down the road it might help if you open up the REVENANT site to public submission, in which you take the ideas you think are the best, and let creators make thier own comics in a sub-comics section of your site.;)
