Fatal Error:./piggs/texture.hogg: Error decompressing data
Unigue Error ID: 4443423
Can't get on with this charachter anymore.
Just in Millennium City Tutorial. Was in a middle of a fight and game crashed.
Everytime I try to load up with this charachter, it keeps doing this while its loading
to about 95 percent through the load bar.
Even after I let the auto patcher do its thing.

I received this error today (Sat Sept 26) as well.
Game worked fine on Thursday night (Sept 24). Started it up today, downloaded a patch, selected my character and was in the Monster Island zoning screen when it crashed. Tried to re-start (the client verified all the files) and the game would crash at the Cryptic/Atari screens.
So, I re-installed the game. Downloaded the latest patches, started the game, selected my character and was zoning to Monster Island when the game crashed AGAIN with the following error message:
Fatal Error: ./piggs/texture.hogg: Error Decompressing Data
Unique Error ID: 4443423
And now the game keeps crashing - can't even get to the character select screen.
I added an extra gig of ram to my PC earlier today - not sure if that has anything to do with this, but my PC seems to be operating just fine otherwise.
Ok I reisntalled the game yesterday. It seemed to do the trick for a while. I crashed only 3 times instead of the usual dozen times. BUT now I get this every time I just try to get in the game.
Fatal Error: ./piggs/bins.hogg: Error decompressing data
It happens during the Cryptic Logo when game is loading up.
Repeated checksum data failure messages after several downloads of the same file from several servers. If that file's checksum is valid and the image mounts, then the first file you downloaded is damaged. So the files I get from several different servers when loading up are never the same as they where last I was there. So number of bytes arnt the same and game crashes due to the files not hanving the right number of bytes. Corrupted basically. Notice that we have many servers to go to? Well there you go. This is Cryptics fault. They need to come up with a way to bypass this problem.
Ok I think it could be that the client software is full of bugs if you get it installed through Steam. A retailer of the game. If you uninstall the Steam Client version and reinstall the one you get at the official website, then that might fix these problems. I only started playing this with the other client version so lets see. By the way, the website version is about a gig bigger. Could be something to this after all.
Ok I got the pigg errors to go away to my knowledge. So I think this work. But now I have a new problem. One at a time, when I try to zone into a powerhouse, the game crashes. Every time I try to load up those same toons, during load screen, the game crashes again. Now I can't get on three of my toons, and in the game.
I have three characters at lvl 29 becuase I cannot load Monster Island. It get the same fatal error. I had a GM move them to MC to I can still mess around on them, but yea.....I cant play beyond lvl 29. I have been submitting tickets for 2 weeks now. Getting pretty ****ed with Cryptic.
Same here, I cant load the pigging Hog file. Game crashed out on the way to Monster island. now every time i try to load my Char it crashes to desktop.
After having launcher install errors yesterday i think my friends were right to leave. gah!
I'm seeing a pattern here, lots of people who had no problems for a long time and then all of a sudden as of the recent "hot fixes" and large patch people are starting to have issues left and right like crazy...
Been having this issue -since- Open Beta, really. Every so often, the game files will just go corrupt for seemingly no reason. ... It really is a huge pain in the ****.
I had something I did about it, but it only worked in the short-term.
See, what I usually did was go into the C:/Program Files/Cryptic Studios/Champions Online/piggs/ folder, or something like that, and delete the .hogg file that was giving me the most errors. It's usually texture.hogg, texture2.hogg or sound.hogg.
Anyway, after I did that, I just let the patcher reinstall the missing components. It seemed to run fine after that for a while, but after a certain period of time .... yep, got the same errors again.
Some insight from Cryptic themselves on this'd be appreciated.
Great, I'm getting this too Everytime I goto canada..3 of 4 chars stuck in Limbo...guess I'll try the deleting the offending hogg idea..sound like it should work.
Man I tried everything but everytime i log in the game stops at th monster island loading screen then the game goes off. I dont get why it will not let me play i have the computer for it and everything but i can't even get started on the game. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME???????????????????????????????
I get these corrupt pig file errors in both CO and CoH, usually only after I've already played, quit and then restart at some point later. I find that rebooting fixes the problem, at least for a few hours. As for what's causing it, I think it may be some kind of hardware problem, like an error with the video card, memory or disk read. Could be a software thing too, but I don't think the files are actually corrupt, as replacing them does nothing as far as I can tell, and file verification doesn't find anything. I just reboot, skip file verification and play, and the error doesn't come back for a good day or so, usually.
My system:
Asus PG5C-MX/1333 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53
4GB RAM
Nvidia 9800 GT
...running Windows XP.
I'd be curious to know what others suffering the same issue are running. I'll be installing Windows 7 soon; if that fixes it I'll post again.
I too have been getting this since beta. I've reinstalled the game numerous times, removed 1, several, or all of the .hogg files and waited for them to redownload. Sometimes I get into the character screen then it dies at the monster island load screen trying to get into the game. In the past I've gotten all the way in after this. I can't believe no one from Cryptic has addressed this yet. It's ridiculous. For God's sake at least give us more descriptive error messages in the future so we know where to go or what else we can do manually to correct it. Poor quality. Makes me nervous for STO.
Update: I was able to get in after my second delete of the piggs directory and re-download via the updater / verify method. It almost seems random except that it does get farther along the more times I wipe and redownload the .hogg files. It's still a major pain and ridiculous for a released product.
Im having the same problem. it keeps crashing with the same issue with the rockskin tights hands. I can't load any character in MC. This has been happening since the latest patch with the new tights custom parts.

yes
am on window 7 (64) ultima and have the same graphics card you have and same ram
MajTom, as I said on your other thread, it's highly probable that there's a hardware problem on your end. Did you try the various diagnostics that I said to run?

Can't get on with this charachter anymore.
Won't load up all the way when entering zone.
Playing a different toon in a different zone this time.
Name: Giga-Gadget
Zone: Canada Wilderness
Now I got two toons that I can't get on with due to same error.
Name: Iron Boy
Zone: Southwest Desert
Ok now I can't get on any of my toons in game. What the hell.

On two characters. cannot play them. happened 4 times today. I didn't buy it from steam.
Found a thread further down, delete the texturehogg file and force a verify. It worked for me. I can play my characters again.
Same thing for me. Played on Friday just fine, tried logging in a day later...no dice. Keep getting this message at the cryptic logo.
Just got it too, must be a server side thing

So, I've been running Windows 7 for a couple weeks now, and no more corrupt Pigg file errors. Just thought I'd follow up on that.
am stuck in the start of the tutorial (in the F2P beta) cause of the decompressing data error
I have deleted the piggs file that is causing it and it still does it after I do a force verify and it patches.
DID you even fix this?
Loads then crashes come on fix you game
its always a texture hogg file that cause these crashes and its real sucks
