+50% resist items question

Okay have been seeing plenty of primary defense items with +50% all energy or crushing resistance.
My question is(for energy resistance)do you take half damage from energy attacks,or is it +50% extra of the energy resistance you already possess?

    It's +50% resistance, not 50% damage reduction. It works in the same manner as block (which goes up to 360% resistance at rank3).
