Game Engine Comics is looking for active, cooperative players who are willing to serve as Actors for our first Web Comic using screenshots of original characters from Champions Online.

REVENANT chronicles the adventures of a former Rock Star turned Champion whose promising career was cut short by an apparent drug overdose. While millions of fans mourned the untimely death of their idol, Rev Conlin was secretly resurrected and unwillingly drawn into an ongoing war between Heaven and Hell.

Each twenty-page issue will introduce (at least) two new characters, and feature (at least) one new area and its native mobs.

If you’re interested, please take the time to view the requirements and the list of characters before contacting @Levenant in-game or at levenant@gameenginecomics.com.

Check out the REVENANT site for more info!

I'm going to play the devil's advocate on this one and ask: what's in it for us? From what I can see, you have very stringent costume requirements, so none of the stand-ins you recruit will have their character featured, and you don't list any other benefit to participating in the comic.

I'm all for the community coming together for things like this, but I think you'll find it very difficult to secure participants when you're (apparently, I could be wrong) not allowing them any input other than emotes and little to no reward for their hard work.

    This is what i'd love;

For these people advertising that they need help with thier comics, allow us creative control of our own heroes. My definition of this is to let us write our own dialogue for what they're conversing on with the main character.

That will definetely give me more of an incentive to help you, and honestly, if you had said I could say anything I want with my character, I would have jumped right at your thread the second it went up. I love making up wierd crap for my characters to say. I mean, the heroes you're gonna get wouldn't stay with you for a very long time, so why not just have some people just pop in as cameos with thier heroes?

Like your character could be walking a dark alley, and Mighty Pencil would come up behind your character and say "Gimme your wallet, or you get it!" Then your hero would say "But I don't have a wallet with me!" Then Pencil says "Here you go." and hands you his wallet before running off into the night, never to be seen again. Definetely a short cameo, and I'd love to write for you if you need it.;)

    A good question.

    1) You are right, for the first few issues, the actors will be using the pre-designed costumes. But that is not to say that future issues won't need lots and lots of extras. And there will be guest appearances. I am hoping to get some high profile types to show up for small parts in each issue. In fact I have been bothering the hell out of CHRUUNCH to be in the second issue!

    2) Actors play parts. They wear costumes. That is what actors do. They like a project and want to be a part of it. They want to enjoy the finished product and be able to say that they were involved. They are proud to be listed in the credits.

    3) This project is for fun. Of course not everyone is going to want to help, especially not someone expecting any kind of reward other than my thanks and maybe a little recognition for helping out.

    4) The responses have been very good so far. I have about 10 actors lined up who are all suited up in their respective characters costume and loving it. A few very cool people have even made new toons to play the parts they are interested in.

    5) This is also a “no pressure” project, where those involved are welcome to hang out in the channel provided to talk about and discuss the project. I am including them in the inner workings of the project as much as they are willing to be involved, yet still retaining creative control. It is all about fun, and teaming up to work on something together. Some people are totally into this kind of thing.

    6) The game is basically about comics. That alone is enough reason for myself and hopefully others to be involved. This is actually the very first non-positive feedback I have had so far, but I thank you for bringing up the subject. Responding to it had helped put things in perspective for me. =P

    On a personal note;

This project is still early in the development stage, but I am confident that the comic will turn out to be very cool and I hope that there are those out there who will take it for what it is and simple enjoy it.

I am a lifetime subscriber and plan to be playing the game for a long time. This project gives me the motivation to stay involved in the game and an opportunity to make new friends to play the game with and have a good time doing so.

    Best regards, Lev

I'm mostly satisfied with your response, except for one little nitpick:

True enough. However, as an actor, I have to say that there is no real acting occurring here. Inflection, emotion and emphasis are all but lost when dialogue is delivered through text only. Also, your actors cannot utilize body language to communicate their character's goals, motivations or emotions because... Well... Because of the limitations of technology.

Anyway, I wish the best of luck to you and your comic strip! From the panels I've looked at so far it seems like a very polished affair. :)

I recently learned how to make moving loops of up to well gosh like infinite pictures. Which means if you want an animated panel that is under the bandwidth for the current screen, I can make you animated panels as well. The one problem is that I know not how to convert the files into Gif, which is the most widely used file form for that type of thing. I can make you animated panels, if you know how to convert my files to gifs.

Thanks, but this project is just going to be a basic "four color Comic" lol. Not a free-for-all random character spree, or a movie, or anything other than what it is described to be on the site.

However, not only do I like your idea for your cameo, but we could do an animated short version of that as a stand alone funny strip. Im still laughing at the idea. lol. Seriously, I am willing to write your cameo into the first issue at the very start of it if you like. I think it would be a great way to break the ice and set the mood.

Oh good sir, I must respectfully disagree.
Animated panels bring a more lively atmosphere to the comic, it's something that isn't all too often done. I think you'd find that most people would welcome animated panels, i'm not saying all panels should be animated mind you. Just every once in a while, throw in an animated panel of a particularily cool or action packed scene. The whole things don't even have to be animated not at all, too much memory and work, Maybe just the firing of a gun could be animated. Or someone's arm giving an uppercut to a guy's pretty little face.

I do love that you are so eager to throw Mighty Pencil in at the slight little story I made for the two. Take that as a hint, you should hire me on as a writer, my man.;)

I have literally a million other side ventures like that, most of the time, like this instance, I come up with stuff on the top of my head. I think i'd be a powerful co-writer for you, if you truly liked what I came up with about the wallet thing in like less than a second. :D

I really like this idea, I know it's your thing, it's your choice wether to let me help you or not.;)

Just keep an open mind, I have many more stories that trump the wallet one. I guarentee you that. If you need more convincing that i'm a smash up story teller, here it is.

You are right. maybe "Actor" is not the best description for what I am looking for, but it sounds better than just "people."

Also, as far as the quote above, your thread with your characters back story is doing a very fine job of showing inflection, emotion, and emphasis using dialog delivered through text only.

Keep up the good work, man. I like it and I am sure others will be following it as well.

    Cheers

This has been bugging me since I first saw this thread, and I have to ask; Why does the female character think "lol"?

Good eye. Have you never thought LOL before yourself? I have.

Besides, that image is the first prototype example and was not proof read or edited by anyone other than myself. It will surely have changes made to it if it is used in the comic. Thanks for the feedback though, and I will try not to make any such blunders, slip-ups, or inaccuracies in the final version.
