Crafting seems underwhelming. [Perspective of someone at 300 skill.]

Ever since I started playing I've been keeping up on my craft skill. I always cap out four levels prior to being at my skill cap, etc. Unfortunately anything that I'm actually capable of making is typically worse than the random drops that I gain from Quests. Once I got to level 20 I was excited at enhancements, but I quickly found out that stats I was gaining weren't any better then the drops. @.@ The few times I saw SOMETHING that I was able to make that was worth crafting, it was +5 my level, despite me being able to craft it.

I don't think that it helps that as your level your stats decline in overall potency unless you increase them. The moment you level you're less effective than you were before unless you upgrade your gear. However, what you make from crafting typically has tiny bonuses compared to what you garner from doing quests.

Sure it's great to be able to make Bags, consumables, and what not... But when I look at what I can craft in terms of gear it just doesn't seem to be all that wonderful. Don't even get me started on the lackluster power replacers.

Am I the only one that has felt this way?

Yes, I feel the same way. I don't make anything with crafting other than bags. Thats fine though.

What isn't fine is that you need science consumables to be effective in PVP. I don't think crafting your wins in PVP is something that seems very fun.

Currently it is slightly underwhelming. However I see much more potential in it than in COH's salvage. Variety is the key, and at least they are trying.

I was gonna say that there's custom crafts through enhancements and that's where the fun with crafting begins.... but that's pretty much gone on the PTS.

I've only gotten to 200 skill myself.

However so far crafting is both boring and annoying.

The things I can craft are always worse than gear I got from quests.. sometimes things up to 10 levels below me.

Additionally, I find the stats on the gear is usually extreely annoying. I almost always take arms from thematics... even my 'alien' characters take arms since it has an alien category. Unfortunately I always end up with str and con. And I usually want Dex and Ego on my 'natural' characters.

I really just feel they need to add better gear with diverse stats form early on.

You wont get good crafting until 205+. After that you can make custom gear with stats you actually choose. It's the only way in the 21-30 range to really jack stats up for things like DEX or PRE characters so LR or heals/aura of prot can really start to shine.

PRE especially. PRE seems to always get the shaft in quest rewards.

Do you think it's a necessity then? I don't plan on doing it anymore it irked me that they force you to do it in the intro and that it's even in the game. I enjoy crafting in a fantasy setting it doesn't make much sense to me here. Unless I'm playing a Batman or Ironman type guy I shouldn't have to worry about it. I think to enhance it some though they should put actual gear in at lower levels and more power replacements.

As someone who has been sitting at lvl 300 for 6 levels now ( I made lvl 300 at lvl 24 IIRC)It is VERY underwhelming.

Seriously, I made lvl 300 and I've crafted maybe...MAYBE.....6-7 items.

I like the way the research goes, but gimme me sumpthin to craft damnit!!!! There is an abundance of recipes, but frankly they are garbage (sorry if I offend a dev). I'm ordnance, I don't care about stuff like INT. Yeah... I know it has a benefit but god dammit does it have to be on everything in arms/ordnance?! And stuff I can custom craft at lvl 29 (a recipe I happened to have purchased at lvl 23....) is worse than rewards I got at lvl 23-24, and that is putting the slider all the way to the rare selection. None of it makes sense to me.

Even the Arms rewards are ...useless. I have four bags packed, just overflowing with garbage drops/rewards that I cannot use all Arms. I have so many crafting parts with nothing but healing patches and gun drones to build. Actually, the gun drone device is really really really cool.... but thats about it.

Seriously, the crafting system needs an overhaul.

Oh and i"m doing lvl 28-29 quests and there are caches that require a 301+ to loot, a skill that requires you to be lvl 31 to purchase..... Yeah.... its broke.

I've been enjoying crafting so far, and about 1/3 to 1/2 my gear is crafted. I appreciate the flexibility of the enhancement system. Consumables are also a godsend.

Crafting shouldn't be a requirement, but it should be helpful, and that's what I feel it is for me.
