The Ultimate MMORPG?????

Where is it all going? Where will the evolution of the technology and the MMORPG take us?

Will we be sitting somewhere, motionless with virtual glasses on?

Will we have 3d HD tv (no glasses required)? Waving our hands in the air, (instead of using a keyboard)?

Will we be surrounded by micro-holographic projectors able to simulate any game or environment, (ala Holodeck)?

Or will we have surrogates?

Due out September 25, I'm without a doubt going to see Surrogates. A movie where people are able to virtually live out fantasy lives through their surrogate robots. Anyone else wondering if this will be one of the many ways people will play?

With recent advancements in computer graphics, I could see a surrogate game where photographic graphics are super imposed within the video your seeing through your surrogate! Superhero surrogate games? D&D Online where our surrogates battle computer generated photo realistic monsters with virtual weapons?

Sometimes I think I was born a hundred years too early. :p

Me and my friend are also gonna see surrogates, looks awesome.

Also, I think natal will change the face of gaming for a while then slowly fall back, just like when the wii remote phased in and out.

Maybe a natal based MMORPG though, that would be awesome.

    I'm cautuously optimistic about Natal.
I'd love to see, easier, more intuitive interfaces become available over time.
No doubt playing an MMORPG with just your hands would be be cool (if it could be executed without flaws).

On a different note, I saw a tv show that was showing new computer chips that could interpet voice commands before the vocal cords were used. In other words, it was like you could talk silently with out any audable sound coming out. The computer chip intercepted the words to your vocal cords before you could speak them. Then transmits that information wirelessly to another chip (person or computer). Sort of an 'electronic telepathy'. I could see that becoming part of a computer interface as well.

Actually, the ultimate MMO out there is already... well, OUT THERE. I mean HERE, and you don't even need to pay a subscription fee! It's called... LIFE.

Alas, it's a VERY VERY hard-core game where your crafting skills matter more than your combat attributes, unless of course, your combat attributes are your crafting skills!

As far as entertainment is concerned, I doubt there's an ultimate anything or even something like you might see in anime and similar. Mostly because I highly doubt everyone will agree on the same sort of genre, sub-genre, setting, game mechanics, realism, etc etc etc to all play the same game. For the matter, agree on an entertainment medium.

The only real ultimate MMORPG would be one that toyed with your pleasure center so that you had a joygasm by doing anything at all, scaling with the number of people in your group. :P
