UI causes FPS drop / lag

with the UI shown I have an average of 25 fps
with the chat box hidden, I have an average of 35-40 fps
with everything hidden, I have an average of 50 fps
non of the graphical settings affect my FPS that much, i can run around just fine with max graphics and 4x AA, but as soon as i turn the UI back on my FPS drops like a stone...
