So I have like a 350 science skill.. but the only customized items I can make are all much lower level than me and trash compared to my level 37 stuff.
Do blueprints drop for higher level gear? Or is crafting just incomplete... I've yet to see or hear about anyone getting a recipe drop in game.
I've never seen a blueprint drop as loot. couplr quest items for missions etc but thats it.
If you can get components of around your level, you can make things on par with the quest rewards of your level. Like the high 100s end I can make stuff thats on part with the lvl 15-18 quest rewards. My problem is not being able to acquire enough components. Generally speaking, it's usually simpler to go do a mission and wear the reward than it is to get components from the field or break down enough items to make the things that are your level.
The crafting system in CO isn't perfect but I've seen worse. I definitely don't find it worthwhile to craft as much as I would LIKE to. (I love crafting in games) but there are a few items that are useful.

Not sure about the higher lvl recipes as I am only skill 300 and waiting on lvl 31, but I have had 1 recipe drop.
It was for a gun drone device so not gear as such but there definately are drops around.

Did you go to your specialty trainer to learn or are you only checking what the generic trainers have?
I've gotten two blueprints that dropped, almost back to back. They were both 280 skill, one science one arms. The arms one was a device, i think the science one was too, but im not positive. Arms device was some kind of refurbished gun bot or something, like the little destroid ones. My char with science is at 200, but only low teens in level, so it'll be a bit before i make this thing.

At first I was like woohoo! I don't have to worry about the misplaced stats on the pregenerated items, I can just make my own....
then later I realized... the gravy train ended abruptly.
