Having FPS issues? Log on TEST

Just a suggestion, want to see if anyone else is seeing marked improvements there.

On live, I get 5-15 FPS, with UI off, it goes up to 20-25

On test, Im getting 20-25, with UI off, it goes up to 35-40

Im wondering if this is due to any changes or just that test is less populated, BUT, I did even wade into a heavy population NPC area and my FPS didnt plummet like it has on Live

There is also a new video settings option to turn down visual FX quality, I went ahead and bottomed it out so that may have helped.

Where might we find this test server? I know they made a post about it, sorry. I need a reminder. =)

Maybe they're making some optimizations so that the game runs less like a wounded cow (crosses fingers).

I seriously LoL'd at this comment. I have to agree though, FPS is ridiculous. I'm lucky to get 20fps staring at the ground in an up populated area and doing maybe 9-15 in a mildly populated area. I played with just about every setting so far and aside from dropping down to min rez with everything turned off I'm lucky to get any improvement in FPS. So yeah got to say I'm definitely on the band wagon for some well needed optimization.

Yeah I went and played around on the test server long enough to make it through the Canada starter zone and sure enough, the performance on that version of the client is significantly better in all respects (and I mean graphically, population lag not withstanding).

On the Live client I get delays and aberrations in even UI elements. On the test client, it's pretty smooth sailing most of the time.

Granted, my rig is aging and slow, but heck let's hope the test version goes live soon. It really does perform better in my experience (and had a couple bug fixes I noticed too).

Makes me want to play on the test client more than the live client.

Hey mods, any word on if we'll see whatever has the test client graphics running better make it to the live client?

I wonder if it really is a boost, or the fact no one is playing on test. I mean...I typically get ok FPS as long as no one else is around. Once I get 15-20 people on the screen, I drop down to the teens.

I don't think it has to do with optimization on the test server, but mostly with server/zone population.
I'm from europe so usually I'm online when most of you are at work or sleeping, and the frame rate is really good; but when most of the US players begins to log in then the fps is cut in half.
Strange thing is that this happens even if you don't actually see the other peoples; for example if I'm in MC with 200 players playing CO and 10 in my MC instance, and I'm somewhere far from everyone else, my FPS is 50; if I check my fps at the same place, but with more players playing CO and 70-80 in the same MC instance, even if far from me, then my fps is 25-30 at best.

The test shard always has the newest code so you will be seeing all the performance improvements we've been working on recently up there before the live shard. So yeah, glad to hear the performance is better! More fixes are coming too.

If this is true and it's not because of less people on the server then you guys are great and kicked this issued in the butt faster than expected! :)

    Regardings the last Dev Post:

In that case get the code live asap. I have acceptable frame rates, but my buddy is having a hard time (even though he's well within the requirements) and he's not opening his box version. He says if he doesn't have a fix within 30 days he's taking it back (its the limit on Gamestop's return policy). He doesn't want to, and I don't blame him (he's getting slow load times and partial graphics...unless he waits (ohhh...that's the same thing)). I'm sure there are lots like him out there...sorry to put more pressure on you guys but I guess it comes with the territory.

I logged into test and gave it a try. There was some improvements but much is still needed to be done. It is a step in the right direction though; whatever they are doing. I have hope for this game. I play AoC but wasnt around when it first launched. Apparently they had severe fps issues as well. Howbeit, when I play now; it's as smooth as silk. Let's hope Cryptic will accomplish the same feat.

It's peak load on the antiquated server (not servers), not that many people on test server. Why would there be, it's all code updating and nerf bat swinging. Get more actual servers and stop tossing around the "We didn't expect this kind of player volume" nonsense and start spreading out the load. :(

    Me too...
I've signed up for test server the moment the announcement got out, but I see no extra option at my launcher.

I get identical performance on recommended settings, 1440x900, 100% the same.

Got done playing with the PTS (public test server) for a little bit. Major difference in FPS for my system. With everything at max, its around 50-70 FPS (usually 60). With my personal setting of having bloom, shadows, and comic outlining turned off, its usually around 75-100+! That is a 25 FPS gain from my 50-75 range in live. So even if I wanted those settings, my frame rate is superb. Personally, I would like to have seen more people on, but its late. That would be a better test. The only noticeable drop in FPS is when I fly, it fluctuates a lot, but never below 40-45. Keep up with the good work, and I hope to see more optimization in the future. :)

It's not even noon at Europe, but we don't have access to test server yet so we can't help...

That's strange, why would they put a time limit barrier on region? Maybe they should restructure them so that when it's like 1-3AM, Europe can start playing as well because most of this side of the world is in bed.

I don't know that there's a time zone limit on the server, but when I signed up I loaded the launcher and didn't see the option to go to the test server. After I exited and reloaded the launcher, the drop box for the test server appeared.
Locationally, it's a drop box above and on the left side of the bar that fills when the game is patching, right below either your character portrait, if the character list on the website is working for a change, or below Defender if it's not.
You click the drop box, select Test instead of Live, a patch will download (apparently smaller if you were in beta as there was a test folder there originally), then you're ready to play with all the characters you have on Live at the level they were at the time they were imported.

I have, unfortunately, not gotten an increase in fps. Let's hope the upcoming changes make an impact.

A massive improvement on the test server. I know have 40+ fps most of the time on reccommended settings. Thankyou cryptic!

Those that are having great FPS also keep in mind the lack of people on the test server. So we wont really know for sure until we get to check the FPS with a ton of people round. Heres hoping the fixes worked though :)

Everything at it's max except for DoF OFF and Bloom on LOW, i get the exact fps in test as i do in Live, no change at all.

Were these optimizations geared towards lower end systems, or a specific type of system?

Thanks Wux, whatever you guys are doing, it's working if my experiences on the test shard are any indication. Keep it up and bring us slower rig (and unemployed..thanks economy ) folks into the fold =)
