Need to sign up for full subscription to enter retail key?

Am I doing something wrong here? I go to enter my retail key after finally getting it, and the CO site won't let me register it without entering credit card details for a paid subscription even though the retail game includes 30 free days. Am I clicking on the wrong area, or is this a mandatory step?

    If you click cancel on the screen that tells you to enter your CC info, it should just allow you to play with your free thirty days. It did for mine and a friend's accounts.

    Thanks! I was wondering about that, seemed strange to not be able to bypass that on your first day of play in game for thos of us trying it on for size.
