Can I just assume that no mission rewards will ever be useful?

So, I hit level 31 with my main character last night, a Telepath who has Int/Pre as his superstats.

Apparently, I missed a memo somewhere. Int/Pre is apparently not something I'm supposed to do.

I have at this point done every single working quest at level 30 and below. Not a single item of any stripe has ever come out of any mission or villain drop that was even vaguely exciting.

To give an idea how bad the itemization is in game, when I could finally craft myself an offense slot (OFFENSE - this is my DAMAGE SLOT) where I could actually pick INT/INT as the modifiers, I increased my INT from 11 to 45.

I'm going to say that again: THE BEST CONTRIBUTION TO MY DAMAGE IN MY PRIMARY OFFENSE SLOT WAS +11 INT.

So... if Cryptic isn't making items that improve my character, what kind of end game could there possibly be for him? Why would I want to grind a bunch of arena points or run a bunch of lairs if doing so fails to improve my character in any way?

Seems like the expectation is that I get my character to 40, craft the highest level items I can, and then put my character on the shelf, since he's basically done at that point. Considering the robust end games to be found in other MMO's... this is more than a little distressing.

My knowledge of crafting is bare at the moment....but I've had +18 and +19 Int items and I'm only at lvl 16.....so I don't know why you've only had +11 at lvl 30.

I tend to agree that the mission rewards are a bit subpar and I even have lower level items which are better than some higher ones. Ever so often you might find that one really nice item, but even then it seems as though thats what is expected at the given level. I don't like that a lot of rewards cater to a specific crafting skill and you will find few that actually contain the "recommended" stats. Itemization is just another thing to work on I'm sure, but for me its not making or breaking the game. I'm still enjoying it for the moment.

No, I'm seriously wondering why at your level you just got your int to 45. Even without gear, when you spec into stats at the PH, why weren't you increasing your int?

Yes the stats and itemization is a little weird in this game, probably due to the fact most people are grabbing from two or more "trees", meaning your primary focus in the power house would be to increase your stats where the gear is lacking.

Presence is sort of a rare ability to use, so it probably has less representation in general. That said, I've seen plenty of Presence vendor trash being given away by quests (I know this because it's entirely useless for me and every time I see it I cringe).

At level 24, I've seen some very massive numbers in Presence, particularly in the Desert Prison quests lately. I can't say that I've been paying much attention to Int, though, as I tend to find a lot of +4 Int (and Int only) drops. :P

I would suggest that you power through Crafting so you can build your own abilities.

I guess thats the method to encourage crafting to get the stats you want.

You have to read all of the words of my post. :p My overall INT is something like 183.

Crafting recipes disappear from existance at ~lvl 30. I'm assuming there are drops, but none of the recipe drops I've seen have been particularly interesting.

Well since the hard cap on stats is 200 being at 183 in your low 30s really isn't so bad.

That said maybe one in two quests I complete has no reward that is useful to me, 1/5 has nothing useful and nothing I can break down for research. It's not the worst itemization I've ever seen but I agree it needs some work.

If you look at the specialization trainer you chose, you should find recipes above level 30. I'm at around 340 skill and have plenty of future recipes to purchase (though a LOT of them take multiple Greater Insights which seem exceedingly rare)

    Check your specialist trainer.

    Cap for skills is 400
at level 11 (with 90+ points), you can buy up to 200
at Level 21 (with 190+ points), you can buy up to 300.
Pretty sure that at 31 you can buy up to 300. Check the "store"/Buy tab at one of your skill trainers

Sorry, but you are wrong... One of several things is happening here.

    a) your skill is not high enough to take any more recipes and you have "unavailable" filtered.

    b) you're bugged

    c) you aren't looking at a crafting trainer

The trainers give you an ENTIRE set(primaries and secondaries) of lvl 31 customizable stat recipes between 310 and 330 skill. Please see my guide in the stickies. At lvl 31 with the right mats you can make as high as +54 to a single stat primary items, and +13 to a single stat secondary items. I have not tried to see what the most I can do on dual stat primarys is.. It might be more efficient to do 3X dual stat primary items than 3x +54 primary items. I will test it in the next day or so(leveling multiple characters for multiple crafting trees, so not over 30 yet).

200 is not the hard cap. I'm over 200 already. I don't think there even IS a hard cap.

The theoretical soft cap at 40 is somewhere around 450. That's with pure single stat upgrades for one of your Super Stats along with all Talents giving +5 (and the one +8 you can get) to that and an Inherent Talent that gives +12.

Once the level cap gets to 50, we may see twice that as a theoretical cap.

That's based on the Mysticism trainers ... well, everywhere really. I will have to check out the specialist trainer in MC to see if he's got something for me.

Regardless - I still haven't found a single item anywhere in game that remotely competes in any way with a crafted item for my superstats. Every time we've run a 5-man dungeon no one even remotely wants the drop at the end.

If I get my last customizeable recipe at 330, it looks like my character's gear gets maxxed out around by the time I hit level 35. I guess that's good to know but ... SERIOUSLY? If Cryptic can't itemize any better than this this game is really going to be screwed here.
