Hey All,

Just curious on this, but I notice that I'm able to research some items, but not all items in my inventory that's free.

Is there some level requirement that needs to happen? I'm lvl 15 and some items are at my lvl at 15, so I'm not sure what's up there. (As I thought maybe the requirement was you had to be at the same level of the item to be able to research it)

I did look at the sticky thread up top and it really couldn't find what I was looking for in terms of what can be researched with items.

if anybody can help that would be great.

thanks,

MP

Well, you can only research items from your craft, so no arms-crafters researching mysticism or science items. Or vice-versa.

There's a handful of things you can't break down, such as crafted bags. Unsure why.

And there's at least one quest reward that you can break down, but it's untyped, so you'll probably get crafting materials for the wrong craft. Bug it if you figure out where it's from, since they tried to get rid of all those back in beta.

ahh that makes a lot of sense now need to be careful in the quest rewards I pick if I won't use any of them.

    thanks!

This is what's supposed to happen. However, my mysticism crafter once researched a butt-load of arms and science gear and got the corresponding components out of it (I can't remember if I got a skillup). So it's kind of broken.

Well, I would advise everyone to take a look at my crafting guide in the stickies for more info, but the short answer is: there are 2 circumstances in which you can't break it down.

    1) It is the wrong type of item. You can only break down items tagged the same school as your crafting.

    2) There are no possible resultant components listed in the prediction pane of the window. If the item can't be broken down into anything, it can't be broken down. And if you add multiple items and one of them can't be broken down, the batch can't be broken down unless you remove that item.

There are some items (for example, the UNTIL cloak you get from defender at level 13) that dont have any school attributed to them, and breaking them down will give some components from each school.
