Unable to use Drop/Quest items for crafting

Basically the title sums it up. I have only found 1 item (quest) that I can use to break down for resources. Otherwise, I have to craft items to break them down into components. During beta I was able to use almost any item to 'experiment' and gain resources. This is happening on both the characters I moved to Project Greenskin. Obviously this is making crafting a bit more difficult.
